So I got my marriage certificate in the mail...now what??

I got my marriage certificate this weekend....so which office do I visit first for my name change? I believe it's the SS office, but not sure.

I went to the DMV first thing after the HM, then I mailed in the application for a new Social Security card.

Remove the *, I don't think LIW allows it.

I downloaded the name change form from the SS Administration website and went to the lovely downtown Brooklyn office and changed my name. My new card arrived within 2 weeks.

When the SS card came in the mail I downloaded the passport ammendment form from the Travel.State.gov website and mailed in my marriage certificate and new SS card so that the passport could be ammended as follows: It's ammended with a line in the back (looks like a computer scan) and says '-This passport was amended Aug 15 2005 to change the bearer's name to read First Middle NewLastName.' My new passport, marriage certificate and SS card were returned in about 3 weeks.

Then you have to go to the DMV and change your name on your license.

The list I posted above goes through all the places you have to change your name in.

Don't forget your job...you have to change your tax info (new W4 and NYS Tax forms), your legal name, your 401K, Stock Options (if you have them), medical, etc.

So much to do...what a pain!!!. Well I guess I'll download to SS name change and get cracking on that tomorrow. Then I'll probably do dmv then passport. So, I'm assuming after I do all that I can then open up a new joint checking account and change the name on my Credit cards.
