yea... we have similar differences. DH is very italian american and I am a nice little jewish girl from LI... we bicker. sometimes we have huge arguments over important topics (religion of baby is one of them)

Typical conversation...

me: I cant wait for our kids to go to camp, I loved camp and I love my camp friends

DH: out kids are NOT going to camp!

(drama drama drama)

Its a good thing opposites attract.

ha! we have the exact same argument! i grew up at camp and loved loved loved it, DH notsomuch! too funny. is camp really that much of a jewish thing??

YES! hated it. Glad my stepgirls don't go. I wouldn't make my kid go. But then again, being free for a couple of hours....lol

hehe thats the type of fights we get in to. anything I say about the way my nice Russian Jewish family does things seems crazy to him. he thinks we are all weirdos and I think same about his family
also he is very suspicious of our food, like we all are out to get him by poisoning him
ye and yesterday's fight about the names wasnt too pretty. his attitude was that all of our nicknames are just to confuse him and that I shouldnt refer to MY family members by their nicknames but by names he remembers

Re: cultutal differences

we have major cultural differences in the way we were raised.

dh is puerto rican, born in the us but all of his other 8 siblings were born in pr. because he has so many siblings and some are obviously much older, they were always all on a different schedule, coming and going and some werent even living at home anymore when he was a kid. his mom too was always kind of on her own schedule trying to support all the kids. so basically, no family dinners, lots of togetherness, etc. he doesnt have that many memories from growing up....actually, memories, yes but no 'experiences' like vacations, going to a nice restaurant and remembering it as being special as a kid, etc,

me on the other hand am an only child, my mom came to live with my grandma after my parents seperated and then she was a stay at home mom rather than going back to work. she was super involved in pta, we would take vacations and have dinner together every single night until i was a teenager and then she still wanted to when i wasnt doing my own thing.

anyway, in that way, our differences are huge. i am not used to going to his moms for a holiday and just being served a super informal meal kinda just sitting sideways at the little table in the kitchen as opposed to a whole big dinner sitting down....

i always talk about my childhood for good or for bad and its A HUGE part of what made me who i am. dh never talks about it unless necessary and then its very limites
