Legal Name Change

Anybody else going through a legal name change and/or was not a born citizen?

I just realized I have to change the name on my Naturalization Certificate as well and that's another $345!!!

What. The. Fudge!

Ugh.

So $210 for the filing of index fee.
$345 for name change on naturalization certificate
$110 for new passport
$12.50 for new permit
$45 to publish the legal notice

So a grand total of $722.50 to legally change my name!!

What the $h!t am I paying taxes for??

Re: Legal Name Change

Yup, DH is going to be legally changing his first name and it's a boatload of money. He was born abroad.

We've put it off for now, only because there are some matters that are being addressed for the time being and a name change would only over-complicate things.

It stinks, doesn't it?

Re: Legal Name Change

I really have no problem changing my names and paying for it.

But really, $345 to change my name on a certificate???
And FYI the index filing fee is ONLY if you are changing your first or middle name and I believe it's only $60ish in NYC.
Same for publishing a legal notice, only if you are changing your first or middle.

Passport would apply to anyone changing your name at all.
------------
That part about all this that worries me is having to go to 50 million diff offices. I fear that somewhere someone is going to mess my name up and it will bite me in the a$$. Like today at the SS office. Evidently they have my name wrong. Instead of (for ex) First name: Mary Ann Last name: Smith they had First: Mary Middle: Ann Last Name: Smith.

And somehow that was my fault! I was issued the card when I was THREE and have had no issues for the last 25 years paying taxes, buying a house, etc etc.
