makeup question

good morning ladies

so i'm trying to update my 'look' and wear more eye makeup (i never wear makeup other than lipstick) ...

what is a good color for eyeliner and mascara to buy? should i stick with the classic black, or should i be less dramatic and get a different color?

i'd want to be able to wear these to work without looking like i'm over-made up (and reminder that i never wear anything so it all seems like too much to me).

k thanks

oh, i'm also going to buy eyeshadows in different colors (found a good 'kit' with many nice shades)

Re: makeup question

TWO STAPLESSSSSS! (and I used caps locks because they are BOTH freakin awesome)

1) mascara - HYPNOSE by lancome...i get compliments like left and right on my lashes....its layer-able so you can build the volume you want - simple for work and vavavoooom for going out

2) Dior 5 color compact in INGOGNITO - this combination of colors works for basically everyone!!! again, you can use it during the day and jazz it up for night time!

ETA - I love hypnose in BLACK!!! they also have Drama black but i prefer the straight up blk

3) Liner - gel pot but stilla OR liquid caviar by bobbi brown. use a straight/flat brush to draw on. it is SO easy! and trust me, I am a liner retard. I only wear this for going out!

Re: makeup question

I like BLACK for both! I have very fair skin and hazel/green eyes and the black totally works for me.....

ETA: I think the brown shades start to lose impact....and other colors aren't good as staples....

i've played with green liners, etc but I could NEVER EVER wear it more than once in a blue moon.

I <3Makeup. I don't wear much of it (tinted moisturizer, a little blush, mascara and lipgloss) but I love to play when I am going out!

Re: makeup question

I stick with classic black......goes well with my complexion. I use either Sephora Kohl liner and Sephora Atomic Volume Mascara or Clinique Kohl Shaper and High Impact Mascara.

Re: makeup question

good question!

i'm not really good with mixing eye-makeup colors so i'd like to get a recommendation too!

i usually just stick to mascara and eye liner. i LOVE the maybelline lash blast mascara in black . it's water/smudgeproof AND inexpensive! i've been using this for years.

Re: makeup question

Why don't you go to a makeup counter and let them tell you what colors look best on you? I think Clinque is a great counter (I like subtle looks for day time) and they have great makeup.

Re: makeup question

what color are your eyes? i have light blue eyes so dark black liner and mascara makes me look gothy, i wear a mocha-y brown. some people with brown eyes like dark blue liner too. i think going to a counter is a good idea! even like at sephora or something, they can help you out and they also tend to have deals on 'starter kits' which can be great for experimenting!

Re: makeup question

you can start playing with brown. and see if you want to kick it up a notch.

today im wearing grey eyeliner, with light grey shadow on lid; charcoal near crease. and a tiny bit of violet in the middle for some color.

it looks better than it sounds

i love playing with eye makeup!

Re: makeup question

I think that black tends to flatter most people the best. I love Bad Girl eyeliner and mascara. The eyeliner is def the best that I've tried.

Re: makeup question

Ok so I shop for makeup at CVS. I can't afford the expensive stuff. They now sell eyeshadow kits to match your eye color. Why not try those?

Also, I rec. black mascara. Always black.

Re: makeup question

i never thought of going to the counter and have the people tell me what would work best .... but i'm just afraid they'd be annoying and tell me i need 40,000 different things (even non-eye things and whatnot) ... i don't wanna spend my entire life's savings, ya know
