Re: A letter to John Kerry -- in today's NY Post
Oh I defintiely believe he had a right to write that letter and the post had every right to publish it, I just think it's naive to think it's apolitical. it's fine that it IS political, but you should know what you're reading. Some people are going to agree completely with the letter. I feel for him but I disagree with his position and I think he dampened what may ahve been sincere statementss with cheap political jabs.

Re: A letter to John Kerry -- in today's NY Post
I support the warI support our military
I support our present Commander in Chief
I believe we are making drastic changes for the good of the Iraqi people who are thankful that we are there even though the media doesn't always show that.
I would not vote for Kerry personally myself and as a President he may not be that bad, but as a Commander in Chief I am very fearful. My husband's field is not spoken of very much for their own safety and my husband will be at much greater risk under Kerry.
Was this front page news? (remember I am not in NY right now) if it was I think that is bogus. It was in my opinion a weak attempt to pull political heart strings, but I also think Kerry supporters calling military wives of deployed soliders the past few weeks and having them inquire about the husbands and asking if they were dead or alive and then saying well if Bush stays in office they will be dead soon is alos pretty horrible.
It's the last few days before the election and it is getting dirty.
Just go out and vote for who you think is best and if he doesn't win then just pray for whoever wins.
Also, I love hearing how Active Duty persons were misinformed or tricked into enlisting and how they never thought they would go to war. I think that is bull. Most Active Duty members right now had Grandparents in WWII, parents or maybe family in Nam, knew someone whose older brother was in Gulf or heck maybe was like me and had a penpal. So to allude to some of the things mentioned earlier are just silly. I also know plenty of active duty members who are unhappy where they are stationed even when they are stateside some people just aren't happy with what they get no matter what but most should know they are gonna be sent overseas at one time or another since that is basically what they are training for every day! I don't understand how people can ever say that!

Re: A letter to John Kerry -- in today's NY Post
I appreciate all views in politics, whether or not I agree. Politics can be such a vulnerable and sensitive subject, especially right before the most pivotal election in the history of the United States. I know people do get offended, as do I, when people disrespect your beliefs and partisanship. However, I think it's great right now that Americans are at least being passionate and not apathetic to the voting system. As Americans, (whether it be pro-bush, pro-kerry, independent and all that in between) we need to as Americans excercise this envied right we have to vote. In other countries people travel for hours, even days just to vote. Let's remember to be Pro-American above all else, and focus our passion in the booths themselves. We can contribute to the fate of this country, other countries cannot.

thanks marymoon, that's exactly what i wanted to say but i couldn't phrase it properly. i'm also sick of people calling other people unpatriotic, treasonous etc. for voicing their opinion just b/c it we are in a war. being at war doesn't suspend anyone's first amendment right to criticize the war if they want to.
100% It IS the WRONG WAR!!!! those men should not EVEN BE THERE!!!! Kerry is trying to bring those guys home!!!!

Re: A letter to John Kerry -- in today's NY Post
Here's the reality. Do people really think that Kerry is going to wave a magic wand and pull our troops out of Iraq? America thought Nixon could do it and it took him over 6 years to bring the troops home under 'Vietnamation' It is not as easy as it seems.I too have 2 brothers who served during Persian Gulf. The were FULLY aware when they joined the Marines and Army that there is/was a chance of going to war. The purpose of the armed forces is be prepared to battle in time of war. Whether you like the war or not. It is your job, it is what you signed up for. Recruters don't lie.
I have a student that joined the Marines after graduation. I asked her why now, why not wait a bit and she said to me 'Why wait, there is so much to do now, so much change to make around the world. I know that I may not make it back, but if I die, I know that I died for the safety of others.'
I cried when she said that and she hugged me. She is 18 years old and a much stronger woman than many others my own age.
I pray that our men and women return home to safety and that this war will be over soon. I also have faith in my commander and chief that decissions will be made to ensure that.
There is so much more going on over in Iraq then the media tells us here in the U.S. We only here of the bombings and of the total number of soliders killed each day. What about the mass graves founds? What about women having rigths? What about a people not living in a dictatorship? What about a people that could have the freedom to choose who they marry? The choice of religion? But hey, these are American ideals and who are we to push our morals and values on others?
I too will vote Bush and let him finish what he started.

Re: A letter to John Kerry -- in today's NY Post
No one thinks Kerry's going to wave a magic wand, the work over there ha sot be finsihed no matter how is president..About the other comments, even though HUssein was a dicatator, most people could basically do whatever they wanted, they went about normal, daily lives. Women had many rights, I personally know women who were educated (college) in Iraq, doctors, etc. of course NOW the female doctors can't practice, SINCE the war, women have to hire private bodyguards in order to leave the house. They have electricity for one hour a day, the plumbing was totally disrupted. I don't call ANY of that an improvement. They're giving you this vague sense of iraq, and it's on purpose. Yes, there were mass graves, but the US knew about this beforehand, and HUssein gassing the Kurds, we KNEW about this, but did not invade....so that's not the reason. You cant make a decision and come up with the reasoning later...!

Re: A letter to John Kerry -- in today's NY Post
I think this letter is very touching but probably is a political letter, but as someone said - if you had the opportunity to express your beliefs through this medium, you probably would too. Was Michael Moore's movie not a political instrument used to attack Bush? The first amendment is very important - and for all parties .Just want to point out that Hussein was also funneling money to families of Palistinian suicide bombers to bomb Israeli targets.....(our ally) thus creating more instability and Islamic extremism in a region that already HATED us before we were even there. This guy was not good. War can be scary and ugly but necessary to protect our freedoms like being able to express our disagreements on a message board like this one . You think Iraqi women would be able to do that under Hussein - I doubt it.

It's nice that you have so much faith, but how can you still support this man when every day we see how he has bungled this war -- and american soldiers are dying every day because of his mistakes? The new developments with the missing weapons at Al Qaqaa are just the latest in the series of deadly mistakes. Bush's learning curve is killing our soldiers; I think it's tragic.

Re: A letter to John Kerry -- in today's NY Post
Another side note about war--You know that we almost didnt get into WW2 because of the US govt policy of isolationism from 1933-1938...We stayed out of the war until I think 1940, but Hitler had alerady been in power for 7 yrs. And yet Hitler never attacked us either. (altho I still believe that Hussein had ties to Bin Laden and all of the Islamic extremists) There were plenty of people who dissented over here like Charles Lindbergh who urged us not to go...
Imagine if we didnt jump into that war?

Redarding WWII, considering that we were attacked and that Germany did declare war on us, it would have been pretty ridiculous for us not get involved.

Lindbergh was a vocal supporter of Hitler...
We didn't enter that war out of the goodness of our heart, we entered b/c we were attacked by Japan. If it wasn't for the Russians, the war with Germany would have been a lot worse. They lost hundreds of thousands of people/troops...and yet we get all the credit.

What about the women of Afghanistan? Where are they now? Where were we YEARS ago when the situation over there first came to light? What did we do to help them then? Nothing.
I think most will agree that Hussein was this evil dictator that needed to be brought down. But the fact of the matter remains, he didn't attack us on September 11th. He has been run over with a fine toothed comb and NO connections have been made between him and the attacks on September 11th. When are we going to right the wrong made on September 11th?

Right Pearl Harbor....but Hitler didnt do it directly - Japan did. And then we went to war with all of them. But my point is that there were MANY MANY people over here that didnt want to enter the war - that they would have rather focused on domestic issues since we were recovering from the Great Depression.

The many, many people that didn't want to go over there - including the person you quoted before, Lindbergh - SUPPORTED Hitler. You are comparing apples to oranges.

IMO - I think it is naive to think that Hussein did not have any link to Islamic extremists - he was funneling $ to suicide bombers, he hates America and he was killing his own people. I think it takes alot of bad before things get good. It doesnt happen overnight.
Its sort of like we know the mafia exists but we cant always prove they kill people?
Didnt they just have political elections in Afghanistan for the first time ?

I think it's kind of ignorant to refuse to believe investigations and reports that point to the fact that Hussein didn't have involvement.
We declared war on Iraq - under the guise that it was retribution for 9/11. It was a smoke screen for our current president to fix what his daddy couldn't.
IMO.

Re: A letter to John Kerry -- in today's NY Post
IMO - I think it is very simplistic to say that the reason we are over there is because it is something his daddy couldn't fix. Or that terrorism is a nuisance. We have been attacked by Islamic extremists for 20 yrs now (during Reagan, during Bush and during Clinton) and I dont think if we retreat now that will help at all. We need to support our troops now that we are there. We obviously disagree on the war but isnt it great that we have the right to on a forum such as this?Welcome New Vendors
