We aren't getting a videographer and both do not think it is necessary and will not regret it.

I agree. I am having 2 photographers, and I can't tell you how many AMAZING pics I have seen ruined by the videographer being in them. I think the pictures will be plenty. JMO.

Yes, I think you are. I can't imagine not getting one. I think the people who are dead set against it are that way because they fear being on camera, or don't want big clunky equipment in the middle of their dance floor. But many of the good videographers now use small digital cameras and you won't even know they are there. Also, editing techniques have changed and nobody uses cartoon editing techniques, or cheasy effects. (The good videographers don't anyway)

This is FH's fear. He recently said I could get one if I want but I can tell he doesn't really want one b/c of this. If they use a small digital camera do they have big lights or is it in the camera? FH has had weddings ruined in the past b/c of the annoying equipment and lights and doesn't want to do that to us or our guests!

Re: Am I making a mistake???

My FH and I originally where not gonna have one because of budget. But as we where planning everything else we ended up wanting it more and more. There are gonna be somethings that the photographer just cant capture, so we decided to do it. We just went and got the basic small package nothing extra and ended up getting a really good deal. So now we are having one and have no regrets on making that decision.

I think you should get one...just shop around for the cheapest deal you can get.

Re: Am I making a mistake???

I'm not getting one either. I've had some doubts, because so many recently married friends said they were so glad they got it. I polled my friends/family that have been married for a while, and they all said they haven't watched it in forever. One couple said they watched it when they got it, and haven't since.

It just seems like a waste of $$ to me because we already have pictures.

Re: Am I making a mistake???

Don't get a videographer.. they are a waste of money.. two of my friends got them done, they watched their dvd maybe once..I am handing a video camera over to some of my friends to use at the wedding..
I say invest in a good photographer.. that gives you the negatives on a cdr rom and everyone loves photographs..

that is what I am doing.. therefore you can always do a nice slideshow of images.on your computer

Re: Am I making a mistake???

I think having a video is great becuase you will be able to re live your day in future yrs to come. Especially if you are already having doubts, than there mught be chance you will regret it. Get a basic package if money is an issue.

usually the light is on the camera and only gets turned on if it's needed. ie during the reception. at some parts only. I know what you mean, and I wouldn't want my guests to have to walk passed a bright light either. again, things have changed recently for the better and you should discuss your biggest concerns with whomever you book to make sure he/she understands what you DONT want them to do

Re: Am I making a mistake???

I did not have one BUT a friend caught a little of the ceremony, the saber arch (exiting the church) and the toasts by the BM and MOH. She made a short DVD on her apple and its perfect. Just enough to capture the day. Maybe ask a friend to capture a few key moments? I am happy I didn't spend $$ on a videographer though.

I definitely think you are! I was not going to get a video, but then for the reasons many brides have shared above, we decided to get one done. I am using Golden Moments Films and Pat is great. He will work with you!

Re: Am I making a mistake???

I am not having one b/c that is my personal preference. Only you can decide what is the right decision for you and FH.
I prefer to look at pics rather than videos, my brother watched his once, so to me, i would rather spend more on pics than on having a video, but lots of friends and family will be bringing their own videocameras

Re: Am I making a mistake???

IMO, i think video is important. It makes all the difference years down the road when there might be someone you want to see and can't. And of course, to play back the best day of your life!

I hope this isn't depressing, but....my mom passed away almost 5 years ago. Sure, I've got loads of pictures of her, but the most recent video I've got was at my 13th bday party 12 years ago. But when I'm super sad, I take out the tape because I can watch her move and speak and its always good to be reminded of the sound of her voice. if I didn't have that tape, i couldn't do that.

Ali- my honest opinion is...you should get one! You can get one for fairly cheap in consideration of everything else that the wedding costs...and one day you may want to show your children and grandchildren---
Even if you watch it once a year-it is worth it...there will be people on that video that will not be around forever and you will want to cherish the memories of them!

If your budget allows, I would get one!

I agree!!!!

Re: Am I making a mistake???

We're probably not getting one... hate that huge light they shine in your face! We may look into getting one for the ceremony only since I probably will be so nervous I won't remember any of it!!!

Re: Am I making a mistake???

i would get some kind of video- whether you get a package with just the raw footage, or you have a family member or friend do the key moments... we got lucky that my best friends dad has an awesome video camera, and really loves doing stuff like this, and he doesn't dance or drink, so it really didn't take much away from his enjoyment to have him do it for us.
you definitely should have it. DH and i got to the hotel at the end of the night and the whole day was just a blur to us- it was like ' did we really just do this??' i mean, you enjoy it while you're in the moment, but there also sooo much going on that day that its hard to REALLY remember it all... its just fun to be able to listen to exactly what the best man said in his speech, exactly what the preist.officiant said during the ceremony, all that stuff.... you don't have to pay a ton for fancy edited video, but definitely have some kind of live footage from the day.....

Re: Am I making a mistake???

Another alternative - they now have disposable videocameras. I believe they take approx 20 minutes of footage - place them on the tables and your guests can make videos for you.

I would get one there is so much going on that day that you don't get to see it all the videographer can capture those moments.
