we're not having one mainly because of budget and we aldo have a close friend of the family videotaping the ceremony and reception for us

I agree that you shoudl get one. A 'mini-edit' i.e. edit while they are there is only aruond $1000, and so worth it. We watched ours twice already!

I did not have one because we were trying to stay on a budget and quite honestly, I wish I had gotten one - even if only for the ceremony.

Check with a local college's television production or communications department - often students will do these types of jobs for the experience for a lot cheaper if budget is an issue.

Ali- my honest opinion is...you should get one! You can get one for fairly cheap in consideration of everything else that the wedding costs...and one day you may want to show your children and grandchildren---
Even if you watch it once a year-it is worth it...there will be people on that video that will not be around forever and you will want to cherish the memories of them!

If your budget allows, I would get one!

Having just gotten married 3 weeks ago, I highly recommend getting some form of wedding video. Fact is the day goes by in the blink of an eye. Even as I look through pictures I see so many things I missed because you just can't be everywhere. We have yet to pick up our professional wedding video, but my husband's uncle made us a quick home video of our wedding and watching it was wonderful. Obviously, you will not watch this video that often, but having a video is the only way you can relive your special day. I have no intentions on making all of my friends sit through hours and hours of my wedding video, which is boredom and misery to them, but I promise that you, your family, and your future family will enjoy watching the video in years to come. You don't have to spend big money, but even a basic unedited video is something worth having. You don't want to kick yourself later for not getting one, but that is JMO.
