Re: Am I making a mistake???
I definitely say go for it, you can't fully capture the day in pictures but the video captures the emotions of the day & things you might have missed. I'd defintiely go for it, or you may regret it after the fact

Re: Am I making a mistake???
I would definitely get one if you can swing it. You may not watch it every day, but you will always have it to look back at years and years from now. Plus, there are so many moments captured that you were not able to see. I didn't go crazy--I know some charge like $3,000, but I think you can get a decent video for under $1,000.00 or around that at least.

Re: Am I making a mistake???
DH and I both decided not to do a video and do not regret it one bit. Three people that came to our wedding brought video cameras and we got copies of their tapes. Works great for us! And look at all the money we saved.

I am not having one due to our budget. But we are getting a DVD slide show of our photos
We're doing the same thing.

Re: Am I making a mistake???
If you can fit it into your budget-get some sort of video. I would highly recommend it.If you can't please ask someone at the wedding to get some footage.
It's really worth it.
We haven't looked at our video in a long time since we were married, but right after the wedding we looked at it all the time. Our parents got copies too and were thrilled.
It becomes a keepsake after the wedding. We pull it out every now and then and look at certain parts.
There are things that were captured with audio that you can never capture in a still photo.
My opinion, it's must have. I have friends who didn't get it and regretted it.

Re: Am I making a mistake???
I'd definitely get a video. It captures moments the photographs didn't capture. I never noticed or was bothered by a bright light from the video camera. I didn't even really notice the videographer was there. The videographer was not in any of our pics.I can't imagine not having a video. The day goes by so fast and some things were a blur. I'm glad the video captured things we missed. I love watching our video, especially the ceremony. Watching it really brings back the emotions of the day. I don't think you'd regret getting one, but might regret not having a video.

Re: Am I making a mistake???
Originally I was not getting a videographer. But after reading many posts and much personal deliberation, there are moments captured in video that arent the same as pix - your vows, your fist dance with your husband, father/daughter and mother/son, the interaction that can be caught on still photography. With that in mind, I booked Pete from Wedding Cinema. He had a great package for me that would cover the whole day, mostly documentary style, for a great price compared to some of the others.Thing is, if you don't do it, you can't go back.

Re: Am I making a mistake???
We did not hire one. The most important part for me was getting the ceremony and even when I priced those out - it was RIDICULOUS what they quoted me for 1 hour of unedited work.DH's cousin used SIL's camera to tape the ceremony and did a great job. Also, my SIL spent about 20 minutes and walked around during the reception got all the tables, filmed some of the big moments and some dancing. I am SO happy we didn't spend money on that. If you have a cousin or friend who you would do this for you-someone not in your party who has asked if they can help-I would suggest doing this - save your $.

Re: Am I making a mistake???
FH and i are on a super tight budget---but this is something we needed to have. i really want to see my FH and i on that day laughing, dancing, crying, enjoying it with our friends & family. also, think of this:1) i really want to capture the memory of our ceremony & vows forever. pics are great, but you can't hear the words!
2) the first dance & parent dances: how sweet will it be to hear your first dance song and watch you and your FH dancing to it, while everyone looks on
3) watching all your guests having a great time! you can watch it over and over again and just laugh at the silly dancing, remember those fantastic moments
if you're reconsidering it--i'd check around and see about a videographer--if you are 2nd guessing yourself, you might as well check out some prices!

It's so interesting that people feel so passionate about this issue. I have a strong feeling against having a videographer and I don't know why. I have a good friend who does great videography for a good price and I still don't want it. Weird.

I am one of the passionate ppl who needs a video. I guess it depends on your type of personality.
My brother in law loves watching his video, mind you it has been 3 yrs. My sister roll her eyes when he wants to whip it out all the time. But after 3 yrs we decided to watch it again over the weekend, and it was so nice to re live that day and it wasnt even my wedding. Plus my niece who is 19 months was dancing to the music and jumping saying Mommy, Papi and Sasha (my name). It was priceless and 1 reason why I want one.
But ppl are different, so if you know you dont like it than you wont regret not having one. but if you start off with doubts of not having one than its better to be safe than sorry.

Re: Am I making a mistake???
Hi,Thanks for addressing my comment. I just felt the issue was such a true reflection of people's personalities. I have yet to see a wedding video that I can get into. I love still pictures but . . . I just think it's so interesting. I can't imagine a guy watching his wedding video often. It's like something out of Seinfeld. Very cute but funny.

Re: Am I making a mistake???
I myself did not want one. But someone on this site once told me, I'd regret it one day. The video captures people's emotions at the time, and heaven forbid that person passes, you can watch and see how happy they were that day. Now that is the reason I'm doing, I think I would regret that.

yeah it hysterical... we give him a hard time.
As soon as there is ppl over his hosue for an event or GTG he always mentions his wedding video. Than he always tries to make us watch the unedited version which is like 6 hrs.

Re: Am I making a mistake???
We weren't going to, but then my mom really conviced us. Also after hearing all the brides here who didn't get one and regretted it cemented the decision. Even if we only watch it every five years, we will always have it.. we will be able to reply saying our vows to each other and see everone.. Its up to you, but I don't think it can hurt to shop around a little.Welcome New Vendors
