You know, when you think you have heard all the sites a new one comes up - the old field club :). I visited the website - it is very pretty on the water!!! Anyone been here before?

I absolutely love the Vanderbilt - but I think the min is 125 for a Sat night and 110 for a sat afternoon so I am not sure if I am willing to pay more - I am still debating with myself. On the one hand the price is cheaper than some of the other places I am looking at but it would not be much different once I add the 20 to 35 heads. Out of principle I feel weddings cost so much as it is why pay more. I don't know, but on the other other hand I think it is really beautiful and maybe I could rationalize it as a site fee. I have not visited this site yet due to my conflictual feelings and do not want to fall in love with the site but be plagued with the guilt of spending extra $$$ when other there are so many other sites. Anyone else felt this way?

just an idea- there are two ways to avoid just adding guests for minimum-
1 -pay a slightly higher amount to gurantee less
2- most halls allow you to include vendors in the minimum number - so if you have a band- there 8 or 9- photgrpaher and videographer- 3-5, Dj - 2, Day of coordinator - 1

Re: Any reception recommendations in the port jefferson area?

I got married at Meadow club. They do host more than one event at a time! But honestly I never felt neglected nor did any of my guests! I am still getting TONS of compliements that it was the best wedding people had ever been too. All night people kept asking me how we found this hall because it was just amazing! The food was delicious and plentiful and the price was great! Better than any where else we went!

If I had it to do all over again, there are some vendors I would change but I would go with the Meadow club again in a heartbeat! They are SOOO worth a visit!

The Old Field Club is pretty pricey...I talked to them about booking my Feb 04 wedding and they wanted $125pp and WOULDN'T BUDGE on the price Plus, their parking lot floods a lot.

The Miller Place Inn is nice and very reasonable, but not on the water. There is a cute pond across the street though.

Danford's is on the water, one wedding at a time.

Giorgio's isn't too far away in Wading River and it's on the water

There's also the new place in Mt Sinai...is it Tall Grass CC?

Blackwells is a restaurant in Wading River (www.blackwellsrestaurant.com)

I got married at the Three Village Inn in StonyBrook. It was great and it gives a different feel than alot of other wedding halls. It's a bit bed and breakfasty. And the foods amazing!!!

Re: Any reception recommendations in the port jefferson area?

I went to a wedding at the Old Field Club this past July and loved it. It was very off the beaten path, lovely and romantic. It's not over the top with their decorations--they go with a more historic look. The service and food were good and my friends loved the fact they could go outside and look at the water anytime they wished. My friend (the bride) had AMAZING photos taken both there and at the beach down the road.

Re: Any reception recommendations in the port jefferson area?

I spoke with a good friend of mine from the port jeff area and he stated the three village inn was a popular place to have a reception. Any pics of this place?

The old field club does look off the beaten path and I like that. I constantly strungle with wanting something different and unique but many places that fit this category does not have all of the amnenities that a typical reception hall may have avalable. Is it bad to want it all ;)????

Thanks everyone for all the feedback. I usually am a lurker and a searcher of past and current posts, but every once in a while it is nice to put something out there and see all the responses. It is nice to know I'm not alone in this process.

Re: Any reception recommendations in the port jefferson area?

I know I am partial, but I really encourage you to check out Danfords. It is ideal for your wedding size and is RIGHT on the water. Plus, out of town guests can stay there and the town just built a new park right next door and we are going to take our pictures there. How convenient!

3VI was one of our options, it's beautiful - my mom was dissapointed because she really wanted us to have it there. We chose Meadow Club there because we felt we got more for our money

It's very quaint and the food is great - def one to check out

Re: Any reception recommendations in the port jefferson area?

Lombardis on the sound formally Harbor Hills Country Club. I grew up out there. My girlfriend had her wedding there July 4th last year and it was wonderful. she had 120 people and it overlooks the sound (breathtaking Views). Of course it's owned by Villa Lombardis so your food will be awesome.
