fh is going to take mine believe it or not..my old fashioned boss can't believe it!! she keeps saying 'ive never heard of such a thing.'

I'm taking his name...I have had such a long name all my life, I am actually looking forward to having a shorter one! Plus I am old fashion with that aspect of a wedding....

I'm keeping my name. For me personally, the tradition does not make sense to me. I never understood why a woman has to face such a decision, but it is something men rarely worry about. I totally respect whatever decision folks make about this issue, but, for me, I love my name and don't plan on changing it (at least anytime soon).:)

Me too! Not changing it.

I will be Deb Mylastname (no hyphen) His last name. You can write whatever you want on marriage license and I prefer not to hyphenate for concern about trouble with ie travel. I do not want to be alphabetized under the first initial but rather his so we are together (hope that makes sense) --anyway, This wasy I will have my name on all documents for ease of use (I am keeping it professionally) but have his last name for things like health insurance and travel. I feel, after some thought, like this is the best of both worlds.

That's so cool he would do that. I thought my DH was awesome for hyphenating with me!!!

Good for him! Just be prepared for a lot of raised eyebrows and irritating comments- though I don't see why it should seem such a strange thing people!

I am taking his name. I LOVE my last name and I am not crazy about his but its tradition and it means alot to him.

I took my DH's name. I want to start a family where we are all 'one.' I don't want to have a different name than my husband and children. I think it shows unity. I work in a professional setting where I have clients and I just informed them all of my new name and sent out new business cards to them - no problem with the switch at all.

Still undecided b/c I am an actress and love my name, so have always thought to keep mine. However, getting so close to our wedding, I'd love to take his name to honor him, but our issue is like many of the women here have stated. HE's not close to his father and the name represents him and I'm not crazy about honoring the man, sadly. So...prob. keeping mine for all those reasons.

the point of getting married is to take his name. that is my opinion. i am not hypenating.

I thought I would never change my last name. In fact I told FH on our first date that I never intended on taking my husband's last name- it came up, dunno how. So, I would not change my name- but use his socially.

Since being with FH, my thoughts on this slightly changed, and a friend gave me an idea.

I am going to legally hyphenate my name- but I will continue to use my maiden name at work, or wherever I feel appropriate. I will use his last name socially, etc. I figure hyphenating allows me to use either last name as I see fit- and either one is part of my legal name.

This is what i intend to do !

I don't consider myself a very traditional person, but after weighing all the options, I've decided to go the traditional route and take his last name. I'll continue using my maiden name at work until I change jobs so as not to confuse anyone. At my next job, I'll use my new name.
