I'm taking his last name. I'm an S and he's a J. Since school I've always been one of the last to be called. I'm moving on up in the alphabet.

Thank you -- people thought I was insane for being concerned about having kids who would be at the end of the alphabet. I'm in the middle and he's way at the end. And, no one can spell or pronounce his name.

How do you go about changing your middle name to your maiden name (a la Hillary Rodham Clinton)?

I think it's very telling that the subject heading is 'are you tkaing his last name or hyphenating' as if those were the only options!

I took his last name because I don't want to have a different last name than my children. Besides, I think it makes us seem like more of a 'unit.' My DH had no problem with me keeping my name but I didn't want to.

I am definitely in the minority at work as far as changing my name. I am a lawyer and it was kind of a pain in the neck because I am admitted to 10 different bars/courts and I had to file applications/affidavits in all of them to have my legal licenses changed!!

I will be Deb Mylastname (no hyphen) His last name. You can write whatever you want on marriage license and I prefer not to hyphenate for concern about trouble with ie travel. I do not want to be alphabetized under the first initial but rather his so we are together (hope that makes sense) --anyway, This wasy I will have my name on all documents for ease of use (I am keeping it professionally) but have his last name for things like health insurance and travel. I feel, after some thought, like this is the best of both worlds.

I'm thinking of this, or of hyphenating. Deb, in this, are you actually making your maiden name your middle name?

I am a sometimes hypenate - as in, on the license I'm a hypenate, but in reality I'm still my maiden. I put his last name on there just in case I feel like using it, but so far I haven't. When we have kids I'll probably use it sometimes, but for now, I go by my own name.

I do not have a middle name, so I am making my maiden name my official middle name and will use it from time to time when I sign for things, etc.

I don't love his last name to be honest, but he is a man of such kindness and integrity that I want to honor him by taking his name. I feel fortunate that I can make my maiden name my middle name, because I really don't want to lose it completely.

Very easily. When you are asked to fill in the name you are changing to, on SS form change to Your First Name, Your Maiden Name, Your Last Name and on marriage license do not mark hyphenating, mark the first two names in the first name box and the new last name in the last name box. If you hyphenate, you get alphabetized under old name.

I agree with jennie....I plan on making my last name my middle name (or atleast using the initial N.) and I will have his last name. Ann is also my middle name, although I love the way Paige Ann sounds. I don't love it, but its not an awful name. Thank Goodness!

I am legally changing my name but will continue to use my name at work.

I'm doing the Hillary Rodham Clinton thing- My name happens to sound really good with his and I don't want people at work not to know who I am once I get married. My last name and his last name together actually make up a famous person's whole name so people expect together- if that makes any sense at all without giving out our last names.!!!!
