Leslie I am so sorry for what your family is going through. I know there are deep wounds that still have not healed for you- I could not imaginegoing through something like this right now. I can barely keep it together sometimes!

You and your siblings are strong wonderful people. IF I can help you in any way, please do not hesitate to call on me. I worked with a very reputable LI spine surgeon for many years, and perhaps can pull some strings and get a recommendation- especially given your moms mitigating conditions.

Please know that I am praying for you and your mom for speedy recovery. You are absolutely right- these are the ONLY things that really matter.

You are absolutely correct, the small things that we all worry about on a daily basis, wedding and non wedding related are not important at all in the grand scheme of things. I'm so happy to hear that your family is so supportive of one another and are all working together to get everyone through this difficult time, and yes, it is a huge testiment to wonderful job your parents did in raising all of you. As you said, this is another obstacle for your family to get through, stay positive and together and most of all don't lose sight of your faith....your mom WILL be there at your wedding. I'll continue to pray for all of you.

Also, what you wrote is what I 'lived by' and I'm sorry it's taken this for you to maybe realize it, but I hope others heed your advice and learn from your resilience. You are very generous to post that. Girls, don't sweat the small stuff! The wedding is but one day, don't make it any more stressful than it has to be. Invites matching, dresses matching, BP's cooperating, etc. only matter because your'e too focused on the 'small' things...life can really be a lot more complicated. Count your blessings that 'my FMIL wants to wear white' is your 'only' problem...

Ed and I already talked about the possibility of getting legally married in Dallas if need be and how it would work. It is in the back of our heads. My mom has lived through too much not to see this day. She and my father have made so many personal sacrifices to make this day happen and it wouldn't be fair to Mom not to see the actual moment - the one that means the most to us. Honestly, it probably won't pan out that way, but we like to be one step ahead.

OMG Leslie, I am so sorry that I haven't been on for the past couple of days offering you support on this and I'm even more sorry that all of this is even happening to you and your family!!!!!!!

You have the best philosophy and attitude about this, you're parents must be so proud that they raised 4 such wonderful kids. Take condolence in the fact that you're not going through all of this alone, that you have 3 siblings, a loving FH, and plenty of friends (both on LIW and in 'real life').

Don't worry about what this is doing to Ed, this is giving the 2 of you a chance to confirm that you can get through anything and that your love is strong enough to withstand even the toughest challenges. Once again you're absolutely right, don't sweat the small stuff, and it's amazing that at this time instead of us saying that to you, you are instead reminding us.

You're a remarkable woman and we're all here for you, whatever you need don't hesitate to ask!! Our thoughts and prayers are with you, your mom, and your family!!!

UPDATE AGAIN

My sister (the one who is with mom in Dallas) just called to make sure that all of us kids were on the same page as far as Mom having surgery in TX or NY. We all agree that to move her now is not good so the surgery will go on tomorrow as planned. I told her to tell Mom I love her and that we will take care of her. And to do whatever it takes to give her will to get well.

Good Luck Leslie!! Do what feels right to you. If you have to get married in TX with your mom their that sounds like a good idea since years from now you would want your mother their for you.
