Re: BTDT moms: BIRTH PLANS
I don't feel right passing judgement on this woman's birth plan. As a BTDT Mom, I guess it's easy to see what won't fly and what's realistic. But I hate to see anyone disappointed when things don't go the way they imagine, dreamed or planned. So for anyone making a birth plan, just try to be open-minded and flexible. Sometimes the way it really goes is out of your control.Re: the poop fears. When I took my childbirth class, it was talked about alot, mainly from the women (including myself) initiating alot of questions - it seems it's on everyone's top 3 list of fears related to childbirth. However, I don't think any plan such as eating certain things or even an enema can assure you that it won't happen. Here's where I will pull out the BTDT knowledge and say - Trust me, in the moment while you are in labor you will not care - at all. Not one iota. And some women don't even know they pooped, it's all expected by the L&D crew. Now you may want to forwarn your DH that it may happen but after he witnesses everything else going on at the same time, it's all part of the experience for him. LOL

Re: BTDT moms: BIRTH PLANS
hi thre- here is my 2 cents...dont give a hoot about whether or not you poop. They dont call it LABOR FOR NOTHING. yOU have to work to get that baby out of you.
i am a bit sorry to see that some posts here refer to being completely knocked out while giving birth and waking up later. That is how they used to do it in the 40s and 50s..mos were on REAL DOPE and baby comes out dopey as well..and it takes time for that stuff to come out of thier little systems..can lead to breathing problems for baby. Honestly, if you are not going to smoke, or eat cold cuts, or drink diet soda because of the effects on baby..would you not want to LESSEN the amt of drugs that get pumped into your (and their) bodies? ...being knocked out is not the best option...
I am not standing on a podium..just wanted to point out a discrepancy
that being said, if you need it, ask for the epi- but KNOW what that is going to do ...besides helping with the pain it SLOWS down the birthing process...so then they give you PITOCIN to speed things up. you are then bed ridden, have a cathedar cuz you cannot stand on your own 2 legs, etc
the birth plan listed above was almost too detailed.
Yes, you want a plan esp when dealing with options for drugs.
you dont need on your plan that you want to do it in your own clothes- u just tell the nurse..(then kiss that outfit good bye you wont want it after TRUST ME)
music- we brought it but never put it in. thought it would be too distracting
i didnt read the plan since it was very long..and i thnk the nurses will not either..but it is a good thing for HUBBY to have..so he can answer any ?S while mommy is having her contractions.
sorry if I sound abrupt..I did not mean it that way...but this is a HARD process to bring baby into the world...but you will TREASURE it...and hubby will look at you in a new light..cuz the secret is WE are the stronger sex!

Re: BTDT moms: BIRTH PLANS
Since I'm not a mom and you asked the BTDT moms, I will just say very briefly that most birth plans are impractical and unreasonable IMO. If something is really important to youby all means say so but some decisions are
best left up to your physician.
BTW, lots of women poop, I'd say the majority but its no big deal. Most women don't notice and the staff won't point it out. Enemas are commonly given in labor in many cultures but you're not likely to find a hospital to give you one.

FIRST-STAGE LABOR
If inducing or augmenting labor become necessary, I would like to try the following techniques:
Sexual intercourse
ya know, I just went over the list again and realized that I missed this one!
where exactly was she planing to do it? Ask everyone to leave for a few minutes? i doubt her husband is going to be able to 'perform' under all this pressure!
I know it helps sometimes but I think you are supposed to do it befoer you leave for the hospital!
