I was thinking of getting my hair and makeup done by Wedding Group One, how early did you go there and what prices did you pay?

I went at the end of April to book them for my June 7 wedding. I decided to use them after my sister used them for her wedding on April 19. I was my sister's MOH and she paid for my hair/makeup by them - so that became a makeup/hair trial for me. I did not do a trial before my wedding and my hairstyle was decided by the stylist on the day of. I was planning to do an updo as most brides do but the stylist suggested the style (you see in the pictures) would be unique and suited my face shape. They are experts with asians!

They charge $150 for a trial and $350 on the day of - this includes a facial treatment which was great for prepping the skin for your wedding day. If you want the head makeup stylist, Vicki, she's at an additional charge. Also there's an additional charge if you want them to come to you. There were some incidental charges that they waived for me since my sister used them.

Those were placecard candles that doubled as favors. I searched the internet for a style of the chinese astrology that I liked.

bride2bee - That's a tough question. I guess it would depend on how strongly you and your family feel about it. If you feel it may bother you, you could do what you suggested, have the acutal paper say the earlier date but have the ceremony and reception on the date you booked.

Xelindrya: your favors look great! As for your question about your sister-in-law - you should ask her and see if she would be comfortable translating. If so, great, if not, then I wouldn't push it.


Another favor idea I thought about but didn't do were mini chinese bamboos, if anyone's interested.

ssdare: Wedding Group is expensive. How much did they charge for bridesmaids makeup/hair?

xelindrya: I went to a wedding where one family only understand english and the other only understand cantonese. I remember the officiant spoke in english first and then in cantonese. What amazes me, was the officiant is not asian. He spoke cantonese very well. I think it'll be nice to have it in two languages. Then again. consider time and if both families really want it.

bride2bee: It's a tough decision. I agree with juizai. I let my family and his family decide on the date becuz of respect and a sense of feeling 'everything is good' I don't want any regrets.

More traditional and we really wanted to go big on the red and gold so this didnt work for us.

Yeah, at first look they are pricey, but if you end up doing a couple trials- the costs start to add up. I think they are a foolproof option for asians. Also the cost includes a facial so I would price that at around $75-100. And I forgot to add before that a touch-up for the groom is also included in the price.

I think it was around $100-150; they gave a discount if you have more BMs.

Most places give a discount for larger parties. I only have 3 girls (including the MOH). The only way I get a discount is if all 3 get done, PLUS my mother!

I believe the 2005 lucky dates/calendar is not out yet... we weren't able to check for ourselves either.

Thanks for the advice... I think we mihgt acutally get married beforehand and not tell anyone, I think he wants to do it and I really don't mind... better to have the extra blessing. We won't tell the guests though, only my best friend and our immediate families will know we got married beforehand.

My stepmother and brother and my entire family on my mother and fathers side don't know we are married. Jim's Mom, grandma, brother and sister know.. because we all live together and after we got married I had to sort out some insurance stuff. My Dad knows we're married too and one guest (Jannshari) because she witnessed the wedding!!!

Im using the chopsticks I first showed for sure. We need to check our budget to see if we'll use the gold silk fortune cookies as place holders. We may mix it up with something Spanish instead as place holders..Spanish love yellow and red as well. And use the opposite side of the table cards to show a Spanish Tarrot Card and one side be the Chinese Astrology (love that idea.. thank you so much)

We selected our wedding date 11 months before time. That chinese book on choosing dates comes out about one year in advance.
