Re: Chinese Brides
Hi:I am actually new to this board and am happy to see there are other Chinese/Asian brides on this board. This thread has definitely been very helpful in my planning of bringing in the different cultures into the reception. Thank you all for sharing.
After reading through the thread, I wanted to respond/ ask some questions.
I do plan to wear the chinese traditional dress. I will actually be having two receptions: one american and one chinese banquet, and that was all my parents doing. So at least I will be able to wear both dresses twice.
ssdare- I love your pictures, thank you for sharing them with me.
bride2bee- Thanks for reminding me about being able to get bm gifts at Chinatown. I completely forgot about that. The only thing I was thinking about getting from there was my wedding band which is definitely cheaper there.

Re: Chinese Brides
Xelindrya- We are both having our reception at the same place. Not too many people are having it there, so its great to find someone who is and is trying to input some Asian traditions into their reception. Are you having the ceremony there as well? Do you decide on if you will have the SIL translate?By the way, I love the lantern ideas, where are you ordering from? I was thinking of doing my own centerpieces too. I didnt like the flowers they came with in the package. If I can find something that is less than $10 per table, I will be happy.
Hair Salons/ Photography- I know there was a questions on places to do it at. My mom said she knows someone in Flushing who has a business there that does hair, makeup for the whole bridal party, photography and limo service for I think 3000. Which is out of my price range, but if anyone is interested in wanting to find out more, I can definitelt ask my mom and get the name of the place and post.

Re: Chinese Brides
yes I am getting married at SMCC probably indoors. Dont want to walk around the flag pole. We're taking our pictures out by the GazzeboNo I decided not to have my SIL translate. She would be VERY uncomfortable. Besides my MIL will be there to translate for her, but it's the ceremony and not the words I think she'll care more about.
My lanterns were bought bulk off a ebay store. 12 of the etched glass / iron ones and 2 of the dragons. All 14 plus shipping cost us $64 dollars.
Our cake: we're gonna talk to James about making it Red Velvet (its a chocolate cake that is dyed bright red - I'll attach a photo) and the icing is red (James ok'ed that already).
I'm having a problem finding a guestbook I like. I wanted a yellow/Gold guestbook because everything else is all centered on Red.
The BM are wearing red and the favors have changed. They will now be a dark brown set of chopsticks no sleeve but tied together with gold ribbon and a small lable that has our names and wedding date on it.
My hair & Makeup is obviously Spanish inspired because that's my heritage. I posted my pics already. But selfishly here's the link to them: Xelindrya's hair & Makeup

What is the 3000 package?
I went to the photo place this weekend and here are the prices they listed for me. Its right on Main Street and called Eternal Wedding Group.
For 3000, they can give you 200 guaranteed photos (5-8 hrs on wedding day)which includes:
4*5 photos in album
10*10- 30 photos in album
16*20- 1 enlargement with frame
20*24- 1 photo on canvas with frame
Thank you card 60 pcs with 2*3 photo
3hr limo- 10 passenger
makeup and hair
They are the first people I spoke to about these kind of services so I am not sure if this is good or not, I have to start researching into it. But if you have a budget to work with like I do, you can talk to them to have things cut out from the package above to make it less expensive. They have alot of things to choose from. Since I just started looking into this, I haven't booked yet. If anyone else has better packages let me know. I will also be looking into nsgraham's budget vendors for more options.
Xelindra- Those are very cool invitations.

Since I am new to looking into photographers, what was it that you were not impressed with so I know to look out for those things as well. Thanks.

Re: Chinese Brides
Well, I went to Wedding Box in Flushing, saw their albums and then went down the road to Wedding One. I saw their digital album and was blown away! Wedding One's package costs $3000 just for the pictures but they look like they do a real great job with the album. I know I want one of those digital albums. I've been checking out places in Long Island for places that do the photography with digital album for cheaper then what Wedding One was offering it for. Photos are very important to me so I wanted to get something really nice. Don't get me wrong, I know lots of family friends that have used the chinese ones and were prefectly happy with them. I am just picky =)I didn't check out Eternal Group, I guess I should check them out as well to get perspective. I wonder if the package can be edited to take away the photography but still get the other parts of the package...

Re: Chinese Brides
Lisa68, I would check out Wedding Box as well. Their package for $3000 seemed like it included more limo hours. 8hours? They are one block past Eternal Wedding Group (in the direction of Northern Blvd) They are pretty new. They had their grand opening on Feb 14th. They had some grand opening specials around that time. You could ask about if they still have it. They were willing to take off a certain % discount because of the grand opening. If you are thinking of renting a wedding dress, change of dresses, tux etc they had that as part of their package as well.

jessnyc711, Eternal Wedding, True Love (In the Flushing Mall, 2nd Floor), and Wedding Box, Wedding One, all do makeup. I haven't personally tried them so I don't know how the quality is but when I went to inquire, makeup and hair came as part of the package.Welcome New Vendors
