does anyone know of a local place I can get a custom cake topper made? I found places on the web - but I would rather use someone local. Thanks!

The guest book should be at the ceremony and at the reception. At the ceremony it should be before you enter the church/temple... near the programs maybe. AT the reception with the place cards or on a separate table that some catering halls have. Good luck.

Where did you find custom cake tops on the web?

Does anybody know a good jazz group for a reception? I would like a female singer, piano, sax and perhaps a bass. I would like a group that does music, both slow and jazzy, that my guests can dance to at the reception.

Ummm.....anyone who is working from beginning to end (more than 5 hours) expects to be fed, which has nothing to do w/gratuities. You can't depend on the cocktail hour (although we can talk about that option). Also, we have the option of just having one photographer for the last three hours of the reception. All you really need is one photographer during that time, and you get to save on one meal + extra pictures that might not be necessary. Remember that I'll continue to work with you on the budget issue.

Thankfully, I have encountered nicer staff the past 2 times I was there. Maybe I had previously 'caught them on a bad day'. They also did a wonderful job on my bridesmaids dresses.

Colleen - Thanks for the info! I never knew custom ones existed! I have been looking everywhere and really have not been crazy with anything. We were thinking of not having one at all and just having the baker do more decorations on top.

As long as everyone realizes everyone has their own individual opinions and doesn't take everyone's opinion to heart, I think we will all be O.K. I know personally, I appreciate the bad comments as well as the good. People should feel free to express themselves. If they have had bad experiences and are willing to tell us about them to prevent the same mistakes from happening, I for one am willing to listen.
