GOWN PROBLEM!

Hi Folks: I need your opinions. I went to try my gown on last night. I love my gown so much. My dilema is this. When I first ordered the gown, I had called a day or two later to find our the maker so that I could find a picture to match the gown to my headpiece. I was told it was a Demetrios. Fine, I looked on the site, and could never find the gown. Then I went in with my bridesmaids for their gowns and delt with someone else (the daughter of the owner). I asked for a picture of my gown and told her it was a demetrios. She came downstairs and said, "you're gown is not a demetrios, it's a Private Label by G". She showed me the catalog, it was my dress and so someone made a mistake. Needless to say, I went in last night, tried on my gown, took it off and saw a Demetrios label half sewn into the gown. The gown also, I believe is not a brand new gown, but the original sample I tried on". I didn't say anything as other brides were around and it was a little crowded. I left the owner a message this morning and I don't know how to approach this. I first of all, paid for a new gown, not a sample off the rack, and 2 - I do not want to leave the shop with a gown made by one designer with another's name in it. What should I do. I lov e my gown, but am I getting what I paid for??? It's a good shop and everything is going well with the bridemaid dresses. I like my shop and the people, but I'm worried

Ladies, I am torn...

GOWN PROBLEM!

Demetrios would be angry to know that their label is being sown into a dress that they didn't make. What would the cost difference be between this G Label and a Demetrios?

When is your wedding? Timing is a big factor. First - you should insist upon a new dress or at least a 50% discount for the sample. Any rush charges should be at their expense.

Don't back off from this - you have a chip in your pocket. I'm sure Demetrios would be VERY upset to learn that they are sewing their lables into dresses made by others. THAT'S FRAUD.

I would definetly say something. Approach it just by saying I dont know how to bring this up but........ Be totally honest and try to get to the bottom of it. If you paid for a new gown that is what you should get. Now I am worried. The place I went said my dress was by Venus and I looked on their website and didnt see my dress. I guess I'll look when the dress comes in. Good Luck and let me know what happens.

GOWN PROBLEM!

I know. I saw my gown when I went in in the Private Label By G catalog, or a magazine with the gown. I don't want to cause a hectic problem for my girls and their alterations and I don't think they will be treated differently, but I don't want to go in screaming. I want to handle this in a calm way. It could end up causing a lot of problems for me. My wedding is in 12 weeks

Of course, you should be calm. But do not feel as though you've done something wrong or are wrong for asking for remediation. You paid for something and they should deliver it.

12 weeks is plenty of time for them to get you a new gown (my gown was ordered and delivered to the shop in under 8 weeks - without a rush!)

If the people are as nice as you say, then they should bend over backwards to make things right for you. What's the very worst case? The girls have their alterations done somewhere else (I can give you a great referral) and you get your dress from someone else who carries that line. THAT'S THE WORSE CASE - AND I DON'T THINK THAT WILL HAPPEN!

GOWN PROBLE - FIXXXXED

Okay ladies: I got admission out of them that it's not a Demetrios - error! they say. Also, the kid (18) left a message on my home phone stating this: "Oh, demetrios knocks off ginza, ginza knocks off soo and soo, etc." "When we clean your gown, it will be F_ _ _ _ _! flawless" Yes, it was on my machine those exact words. This young girl should not be working there! I asked this: Why do you have to clean as brand new gown???????? Back and forth back and forth, About 10 minutes ago I received a call at my office that a "Brand Spankin New Gown will be ordered today for me". That's what I ordered in the first place. I did say nicely that I would call Ginza myself and ask for the picture and then come show them. That's when they jumped. I do trust this shop. THey do have a great reputation, and I am shocked that this happened. I wonder how many other girls walked out thinking they have a Demetrios, or whatever, and they don't

Thank you for your input, Ladies!!! I still welcome other comments...

I'm glad they cleared it up - though I'm a little concerned that you had to mention calling Ginza and THEN they jumped.....

When will the new one be in? Ask them for the style number - does Ginza have a web page? Then you can check it out...

If you don't mind me asking, how did you hear about this place? (and where is it?) If you don't want to post it, pls email me directly.

GOWN PROBLE - FIXXXXED

HI Karen! Both my sister's bought there gowns at her shop Never had problems. Always accomodating. I still don't understand why this happened. Maybe just trying to get rid of the floor dress, which is in pretty great shape. She has a beautiful shop, very organized, beautifully kept gowns and a special seperate building for bridesmaids. Don't know why? Still asking myself. Anyway, my gown is going to be paid with rush services now and will be in mid April.. The one good thing about my gown is that it fits me perfectly. It's my size, needs no hem with my shoes, no taking in, no shoulder/sleeve adjustments, etc. All I need is 2 or 3 bussel buttons placed on the back, that's it. Time is not a problem. When it gets here, I will have 6 weeks to fix anything, or THEY WILL!

Let me know which one is yours. I'd love to see it! : )

GOWN PROBLE - FIXXXXED

Oh my gosh!!!!!!! Hi Concetta. It didn't even click to me. Yes, I do work with Rob. He's a great guy! Don't worry about the shop. I have 2 neighbors (brides) getting married and also bought their bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses there. If this wasn't resolved, I would have said run like H _ _ _ ! I still don't feel that what they did was right and to tell you the truth, I believe it is the daugher. She called me 4 weeks ago and said she forgot to order my bridesmaids dresses. I wasn't worried, but it seems she is making the screw ups, although I won't take full responsibility away from her mother, the owner. I was sick to my stomach this morning because I don't like to argue and I expected to receive what I paid for. I was completely caught off guard because I do like them and I do trust her. She can come through on anything this woman. I've know her shop for 5 years. Maybe she just tried to get rid of a gown she felt was in good shape. You'll be fine! Just check your labels. I don't know why she would put her shop on the line for switching designers. All her dresses are very reasonable and have wonderful prices. You'll be fine.

To go you will need - a $30 money order (no checks, no cash - made payable to City Clerk) and valid ID (drivers lic, nondrivers lic, passport, miltary id). It must be current. They type it out for you, you give them the money order and ta-da! Done! No blood tests are required.

The address in Queens is 120-55 Queens Blvd, Kew Gardens. The union tpke exit off the Van Wyck. You can get directions via yahoo.com. There are trains/buses that go there too.

Thank God but the daughter is the one that helped me. Oh No. The mom rang up my sale. So maybe I will be OK. I am going Sunday with a few of Rob's sisters (yes he is an awesome guy) to get measured for their dresses. I am just going to double check everything to put my mind at ease. Well I am just glad you were able to get this resolved. Take care and have a great weekend!!!!

GOWN PROBLEM!

OK , I AM FREAKING OUT NOW...I JUST FOUND THIS SITE AND I AM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE STORE IS THAT YOU ARE REFERRING TO . MY SISTER IS GETTING MARRIED IN NOVEMBER 99 AND ME IN FEB 2001. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT THE PLACE IS ( EMAIL ME DIRET IS YOU WANT ). I am glad every thing work out, but it sort of make a girl wonder...

Our Church is in Valley Stream and we are looking for a place for the reception in Nassau County ( or even close to the Boarder in Queens ). We plan to have 170 people and would like a place on the traditional side. Our budget is about $90 We are also looking for a "continuos cocktail hour" not a sit down.

Any suggestions ???

GOWN PROBLEM!

Hi Brides! I want to post the bridal shop on here, but the better/moral side of me say's not too. It's not that I don't want to warn anyone. Please forgive me. I'm so nervous at this point, but I also know that this bridal shop is reputable and a good store to buy from. This is sooooo new to me. I know this bridal shop for over 5 years and I feel as in shock as I did the day my fiance asked me to marry him. I am not one to bash anyone and I want to let you all know the name of the shop. I can tell you it is the oldest bridal shop on Long Island in Islip, NY if that puts your mind at ease. Yes, I did feel I did something wrong this morning and that I shouldn't say anything to the owner, but Karen sort of woke me up to a different light. This is my wedding and my day, not theirs. I trust this bridal shop completely, believe it or not. I know they usually do right. I was just someone who sort of was taken for a sucker, I FEEL ANYWAY! I'm so sad to have to go through this, but I'm not picky and I don't care about designers or whatever. I'm just mad that anyone would even work this way. This is not the usual case with this shop. This is why I'm so confused. I do not want to post the name because I am scared that if I do, my dress, along with my girls will be a nightmare and ruined. Please e-mail me individually if you are concerned it is your store. I think you will all understand how I feel. I almost want to cry becaues I'm on your sides more than hers. The funny thing is is that I just told the owner about this site and now I'm afraid she'll see these postings. HELP! if you feel I should say the shop name on this site, please tell me

Last week there was a Louis Armstrong profile on the BRAVO Channel. The closing song was something with the words "We've got all the love in the world." I looked in the music stores but found nothing by this name. Does anyone know this song? It was lovely and I would like to use it for our first dance.

Kate, I can relate to how you feel and quite frankly I think you're being very nice to not want to post the name of the shop. I can understand you not wanting to make a stink in case the shop takes it out on you. Something to think about, however, is that if they did this to you, they must have done it to other brides. I've read horror stories about shops taking advantage of brides. If this shop has done this before, maybe now that you said something they may think twice before doing it to somone else. Good for you for calling them on it (I hope you don't have to pay the rush fee)! Good Luck and GOOD FOR YOU!

Thanks Karen! As far as the rush fees, when the daughter called me, she said " I have to pay rush fees, but I'll have the gown here by 2nd week of April". I said "You should pay them, I came in 7 months ago when you guys asked me to. I didn't rush you, you did this to yourself". If anyone would like to know the name, please email me. I will let you know. Mary-beth - I tried to email you but it came back in error. Did you get my email? Thanks Everyone.

I also heard the same comments - not a HoJos but not a Marriott. I price checked the Marriott and the East Norwich Inn for our late March wedding. Marriot was slightly less expensive, had more availability & has more amenities. Both serve a continental breakfast & both provide AAA discounts. Here are their web links:
