Marcela, which dj are you using? I havent decided if I am using both a band and dj - the thing is that there are a few songs that I want to be played that you need the original singer ie Sinatra and so forth

Georgia: We're using Big Hits Entertainment. If we knew that we were booking a band we probably would've booked the DJ/Band combo. Some bands offer a DJ for an extra price. Honestly, I think you could probably get a better price that way.
We need a DJ since my family is not Greek and a lot of our friends aren't Greek. So we don't want to isolate anyone. This way, we can have a combo.

Thanks for the info Marcela - I also want Powerstation - I am just freaking about all teh prices - this wedding started at $25K and just keeps on floating on upward as I fall in love with pricey vendors and other things related to the wedding...

OMG, I totally agree with you. Especially since we're having a band and a DJ, the band is not going to be playing the full 5 hours, but that doesn't stop them from charging you full price

If you want Powerstation and Papastefano I would call now, request him and see what kind of deal you can work with them. FYI though, FH spoke to his friend that had Papastefano at his wedding last month and they requested Papastefano and got him, but they were not guaranteed that he'd be there

Edited to say: Before FH and I started planning we were sure that we'd be able to do everything for $15k--LMAO We soon realized that there was no way we could do what we wanted for that much. It's more like triple that price It s ucks, but the way we think about it is that we're only going to do this once and we don't want to regret not doing something.

Hey girls - another thing about Papastefanou - as much as I LOVE him voice - I've heard some bad things about him. First, I've heard he was in the contract, showed up for about an hour and then LEFT and for another wedding he said sorry can't make it and DIDN'T show up!

Darn PreModonna! I swear it angers me when people thing they are so special that they don't have to show!

But for other people I've heard great stories - I guess with him it's luck! But his voice is do DARN NICE!!!! WHY DO THE GOOD ONES GIVE YOU GRIEF!

Olga: I'm not sure if Bessie does airbrushing? I didn't have it done and so I didn't ask. She is worth calling though. As for pictures, I am not computer savvy at all and don't have a scanner. My husband works in computers and I'll see if he could help me out. He always makes fun of me for using this sight though.



Marcela: I went to a wedding in June where Papastephano was supposed to sing with Powerstation. He never showed up. The bride & groom (close friends of mine) were furious but the band sounded great. Not sure who the singers were though?

hey girls i finally booked a band. I got a band/dj combo from Milos. They used to play at seismos ages ago. the good thing is they work together so theywon't be arguing about whose turn it is to play. If anyone wants more info or prices let me know

Hi Georgia...thank you for asking. I think I know what boubounieres I'm getting. I just have to order them. I am going to go to Eleni's in Astoria to look for the clothes & lambathes now that I know what my godchild's correct sizes are. My sister went to Greece this summer and I had her buy the cross from there. It is absolutely beautiful. This is my first time christing a child and I am so excited. I can't wait.

Girls - quick question - did any of you or are any of you taking any private/group greek dance lessons? If yes - how much has everyone paid? I havent decided yet if i will - i definitely do need them though - because I only know three dances (kalamatiano, hasaposerviko, and tsamiko) - and even with those -i dont know any 'tricks' as i call them. Plus my FBIL g/f isnt greek and really wants to learn - plus i need to get all the guys into it- I am 'forcing' the guys to dance at the wedding.

That sounds great. Getting the cross from Greece was a good idea - I love Greek gold! It actually looks real as opposed to a lot of the gold sold here in the US. Let me know how the clothe shopping goes bec I will need to know for my little nephew.

I know most churches offer dance lessons as well. You may want to call your church office.

There is a dance group in Astoria which one of the people who runs it is a guy, Peter Fourniotis. For the life of me I can't remember the name of the group and I don't know if they do lessons, but maybe you can set something up. I'll try to find the name of the group and let you guys know.

AtticaQT I used to be a member at GAFS in Astoria on Cresent and Ditmars. Vaia is the instructor. It was $40 for an annual membership and $30 each month, $12 for drop-in and she is good about letting you just get a feel for the group (first lesson free). Tue was beginner night. http://www.GAFS.org

There is also Akrites and a few others but I don't have any other info on that.
