Re: Honest Opinions on reception halls

i think the CREST HOLLOW is a nice place to get married. not because that is where we are having our reception, but overall i think their service, their rooms and grounds and outside is absolutely gorgeous! :)

Thank you everyone! We looked the WCC and thought the place was really nice and my parents have been to a wedding their and said the service and food was outstanding. My only issue is that we are planning a late fall/early winter wedding and I just felt we wouldn't get to utilize their beautiful grounds.

We also went to Jericho terrace-- and at first i was in love. But, the guarantee requested was higher then what we expected, which made us feel the place was too big for what we are looking for and not as homey.

Fox hollow is what we are looking for as far as the homey feel. The room we would get is the smaller room and the cocktail hour is the winter pavillian room. The dance floor is a nice size-- but the area where the band or dj sets up is off to the side not near the dance floor. I don't know if that should be a concern or not.

Gotcha! I believe you are talking about the Briar Fox room (you go down a couple of steps, right?) at the FH. That is the room they offered us as well (with CH in the WGP), and we personally hated it. When we were there for the third time we saw the BF room set up for a wedding, and it was SO dark, we also didn't like the placement of the dj, and quite honestly it was kinda depressing and basementy.

ETA - Just one more thing about WCC - we also got married in November and we got to use the grounds a bit - just wear a shawl!

lol thats my room! i know she asked for an honest opinion but i get worried when i read stuff like that

Dont worry sweetie. While this is not my room i am a Fox Hollow bride & in MY OPINION It is by far one of the best places simply because of the food & the service. It is outstanding. Not to mention the homey feel. Everyone has their opinions of whatt hey like for their day. But there is a proper way of putting it across. I feellike if it wasnt for you that is all u need to say you dont have to give YOUR visual of the room.
Please respect everyone's decisions & lets learn to word our responses better. Or just use FM!!! thats why its here!

I highly recommend The Thachted Cottage. I got married there 3 yrs. ago and they made my dream into a reality. Amazing venue, staff, food, etc.

As for feelng dark and gloomy, its a matter of opinion. Personally I find a lot of places tacky with all that marble....but thats MY opinion. I think the Briar Fox room is very pretty with the fireplace and the dark wood, I've seen it in pictures of fellow brides weddings and its amazing. I admit that I was not crazy about it the first time I saw it, but when its set for a wedding, it feels like a different room. That's why I choose fox hollow, its beauitful and not over-done. It does feel very homey and i loved the winter garden room for my cocktail hour.

I am getting married at FH as well but I have the Garden Terrace room. However, i am having my CH in that room. I will admit I am not crazy about the room either but its mainly b.c of the low ceiling. BUT my friend had her reception in that room a few years back and it wasGREAT. I never even noticed the ceiling was low or anything, I didnt notice it until I checked out the place for myself. The only time I saw that room set up for a wedding was for my friends wedding...and it was beautiful (and she didnt even have floral arrangements!)

I am a FH bride and I was not offended by the comment made previously. Everyone is entittled to their opinions and most inportantly everyone has DIFFERENT tastes. The bride asked for an honest opinion and someone gave it to her. We are all adults here, there is no need to take things so personally.

THANK YOU.

As for the girls that DID get offended by my comment, I will reiterate, that was MY opinion. I said 'WE PERSONALLY' meaning MY HUSBAND AND MYSELF - NO ONE ELSE. As I also said earlier, I REALLY REALLY liked the FH - we went back three times because we were so seriously considering getting married there. The food is delicious, the service is wonderful, but the BF room was not to OUR liking. Does that mean that other girls don't, can't or shouldn't like it? Of course not!!!!! Can we all please grow up!! The op was asking for HONEST OPINIONS and I gave her MINE. Do you want to know what people hve said about the hall I got married at? I've heard that it's prommy, old fashioned and tacky. Does that bother me? NO - because everyone is entitled to their own opinion!

ETA - to the op - I'm sorry to have ruined your thread. I always forget how childish soon-to-be-married women can be.

It looks like you never grew up after your wedding. Was your last sentence really necessary?

While we understand it is your opinion and honestly, it doesnt bother me but im also not having my reception in that room. However, it is not the opinion that hurt people, it is how it was stated. There is no need to give your visual. you just need to say it wasnt for us period. It hurts people's feelings. And quite obviously, you have known this first hand from posters who rudely commented about your RH. Its the choice of words here that are being disputed not your actual opinion. if you feel the need to use your visual as an examle it could havebeen used in an FM. Where no-body's feelings are hurt. Im so rry that peple did this to you during your process but please remember how it obviously made you feel. And even if it didnt bother you at all. The girls here are telling you that it hurt them. So instead of fighting your choice of words just apologize for the poor decision of them & and move on. This is coming from a very mature older bride to be.

Re: Honest Opinions on reception halls

i am NOT immature. i just replied to your post on calling a RH room basementy and depressing. you could have simply said that it was not your taste but you decided to go into full detail on how much you HATED it. that was what i thought was rude... not that you had an opinion. you have every right to state your opinion but the WAY in which you stated it was a little harsh. choice of words.. thats all..

there are things about other RHs that i dont like and when asked to give an honest opinion i simply say that it wasnt for me, ot not my taste.... something that i hate someone else might love.

whatever... yay to the depressing and basementy reception room!!!!!!

Re: Honest Opinions on reception halls

I met with Wild Rose video today (AMAZING) and one of the videos I saw was of the Briarfox as the reception room.....

FH and I didn't recognize it. It did NOT look at all as we remember it- we've only seen it set up for a cocktail hour and for a ceremony. I GOTTA say, it was BEAUTIFUL. The fireplace was going, the lights were dimmed and candles, candles were everywhere. I wanted to come on here and eat my words about the room 'not doing it for me'....it was lovely.

To Amor2009, I would go for it. It showed REALLY well and the Fox Hollow is great at what they do. I thought of you and the homey feel you are seeking- it definitely exuded that.

One minor thing- the chairs, check them out and see if you can get free chair covers written into your contract....unless you like them. But definitely check them first.
Good luck!

Re: Honest Opinions on reception halls

I had my reception at Fox Hollow in the Winter Garden room, our cocktail hour was upstairs in two different rooms that overlook the Winter Garden room. The service was impeccable, the food was amazing, the staff was beyond attentive. All of our guests raved and are still giving us compliments on the wedding. I highly recommend them - everything went perfectly and exactly as I had requested.

Good Luck with your search!
