Re: Is anyone else counting on making money...
I was amazed that we broke even...but the truth is that we had our wedding on Friday...on a off-month (April) and buffet dinner..with no cocktail hour..We originally wanted to get married in Vegas and that decided to get married at home...so we married at the reception hall..it turned out to be a great night....Be prepared....most of the time..you won't make the money that you spend on the wedding...

We are counting on enough to pay for some upgrades and repairs on our house. I know we won't get near what we are paying out.

I highly doubt we will get all the $ back that we are spending on the wedding, but I know we will get some back.We spend strategicly and didnt really spend a lot on our wedding so it should work out. Besides, some ppl on his side are very generous.

Re: Is anyone else counting on making money...
we definitely arent banking on breaking even or making a profit. we know that people are going to give you the same thing regardless of what you spend on it. if we get by 10% ill be happy. FH's family is very generous but still we knows its an expensive event to attend too. lolwe are doing a small registry and than a honeymoon registry to help pay for europe

Re: Is anyone else counting on making money...
Nope....we are paying for the wedding ourselves so there is no way we will make money.....I'll be happy getting back at least half of what we spend.

Re: Is anyone else counting on making money...
The only way you make money is if someone pays for your wedding. Whatever amount of money we get from our wedding we're using to furnish our place and make any renovations (like a new vanity for the bathroom).

Re: Is anyone else counting on making money...
It is very unlikely you will 'make money' unless you did not pay for the whole thing. DH and I put in 1/3 of the cost of the wedding and made back a little less than 2/3 of the total cost of the wedding, so technically we made money but did not recoup all costs. It more or less covered the hall.

Re: Is anyone else counting on making money...
We'd like the wedding gifts to cover the costs of some home improvement projects, but not expecting it to come out to close to what the wedding cost.

Re: Is anyone else counting on making money...
we def cant wait for the gifts. FH has been able to save a bunch of money over the past few months since hes been living with me and my family. if he lived in his apt. still, i would be making money on the streets!

I am not counting on it. That will only lead me up for major disappointment. My main wish is that everyone has an amazing time.

Luckily with the money that our parents are saving for us--we already made the money back. So the gifts at the wedding will be put in our account that we are building up for a down payment

Re: Is anyone else counting on making money...
Unfortunately, I think we're just hoping to break even with what we are paying for everything. We don't even know if we'll break even though. I doubt we'll make more than what we have dished out. But as long as everyone has a good time-we're happy!

IMO i dont think you should be having a wedding to 'make money' off of it. you should be having it to celebrate the wonderful day with your family and friends!! I think you should plan your wedding based on your own budget and what you and FH want (not on the money you MAY be getting as gifts). I know many feel different then I, but its just my opinion

I would love to make some money... or at least the money back that we put out! But I am not planning on getting it all back, because I will be totally disappointed when I dont.

I definitely agree. A wedding is not a monetary investment. At least, not a good one!

Im definitely not using it as an investment. Thats the last reason I would have a whole wedding. Like I said in my original post, I never even thought about making money off of it. Just the past few weeks have been really tough and it would be nice to be able to pay some vendors off with money from the wedding and not struggle the minute the wedding is over. Not trying to sound selfish but most people know they will make some cash off of a wedding.

Didnt realize people would take this post as me saying my 'sole reason for throwing a wedding was to make money'. I guess it could come off that way but thats not what my post was implying.

See I think people are taking it as that your planning to make even more than you spent on the wedding, which is not how I took your post at all, I thought you just meant that you will be getting gifts after the wedding that usually happens to be cash, so your making money, not making more money than you spent
Thats why the internet ***** sometimes with how people interpret things, because I totally understood that your not trying to say that the wedding is ONLY about the money you will recieve after ..

Thanks cause I definitely dont expect to get anything near what was spent. What Im hoping for is for some cash to help pay for the rest of what is due. Im not trying to start a saving account with 'ALL THE MILLIONS ' I made from my wedding. I posted on the NW board too to clarify cause a lot of people were saying 'Theyre not throwing a wedding for that reason blah blah' Who would throw a wedding to make money?? Does anyone do that? It just kind of annoyed me.
