We're usure about this as well...alot of people are telling us to get it bc you want to see what happened at your wedding that you missed...that you'll be too busy to notice everything (which I know is true) and for this reason I want it even more than before

but in all reality how many people really watch their video that many times??? I just don't know if the money to spend on it is worth it...I have to really debate this one HARD

Honestly I have tuns of married friends and family and yes when you first get your album you look at it a million times, show people when they come over etc. but after a year or so and everyone has seen it... how often do you really think you will look at that?!?!? Most my married friends have it buried in their closet or on a book shelf covered in dust - JMHO.

i've watched my own video for 5minutes TOPS! my friend, angela has watched about 5 minutes also and shoved the tape in the back of her closet. i was at my just-married friend's apartment and watched her wedding tape and dreaded it! i had more fun seeing their pictures and my own.

To me a photographer is something TOTALLY different...I would much rather put more money towards a photographer than a videographer any day...jmo Pictures are priceless and pulling out a photo album imo is much easier than popping in a video...more people would rather see your photos than sit through a hours worth of video just to see what your wedding was like...To this day my parents wedding album is displayed in perfect condition and people love looking at it when they see it...
Like I said...we haven't ruled it out but I just don't know if its worth it...when I say 'worth it' I mean when you're on a tight budget like us...

Originally, I didn't want one because I was haunted by memories of my brother's wedding--lots of lights, camera and mic shoved in my 18 year old face (I was a BM)and being told to say something to the 'happy couple.'

However, after looking around at what is available now (as opposed to 1998 ), there are a lot of great videographers out there who can do wonderful things and make a wedding video actually entertaining to watch.

Also, I think that video really captures things that photographs don't. For part of our video, we're doing a 'When Harry Met Sally' kind of thing and having interviews with our parents, grandparents, MOH, and best man telling us their advice and also their thoughts on us as a couple. I think when they're no longer with us, it will be a really nice thing to have. Just me 2 cents

If cost is a factor, remember that you can always hire someone cheaply just to shoot the raw footage on the wedding day. After the wedding when you have a little more money, you can take it to a good videographer and have them edit it.

I agree with you that a photographer is totally different but I am just saying you really dont know how much you will look at your pics just like you dont know how much you will or wont watch your video. Each person is different. Some people would prefer to look through pics.. me personally I rather watch someones video. I am on a tight budget as well but in the grand scheme of things with all the money im already spending... a thousand dollars really isnt much to have the peace of mind that one day I will look back and regret not having it.

okay im not sure either we just booked our photographer and we are getting like 1000 proofs. i think i am going to just ask my uncle to video the ceremony (he is a camera man for NBC) so im sure as a favor he will do this.
otherwise i will have to find a very inexpensive videographer.

video is picture with words... captureing your vows...? picture cant tell you which part of the ceremony you are in....

it reallly depends on the person. every viedo ive seen, i loved and ones that i've talk to regret not spending a few dollors and getting it.

If money is an issue, request photographers only take raw footage. there would be no editing or anything... or even freelance viedoagraphers looking to start there careear or somthing.

i think its worth it for whatever price (i think im over paying personally but i love my vendor)

Okay i can't say this enough and i try and tell everyone...the video was so important to me and DH. We missed so much that went on at the reception and church that it meant a lot to sit down and watch the raw footage. I would not say you need to do an edited one, but i am soooooooooooooooo glad that we got one.

Even if you don't like to see yourself on TV - don't show it to anyone. I think it is so important to have one. JMO of course but everytime i watch it i see more and more that i never saw at the wedding. So much emotion and things go on that day that you forget about things and the video brought that all back for us. We love it!

My brother got married six years ago and they did not get a professional video. They did have a couple of close friends videotape it and it came out fine. I would have a few people with video cameras in case something happens to one of them. I am having my mom's friend, my cousin(who's in film school)and my best friend who hates to dance to film both the ceremony and reception. My priest also suggested setting up a tripod with a camera behind the altar to catch the action. I don't think I will miss a professional video but I do want to capture the day.

both fh and i definitely wanted a video - even more than still photos! haha...it's so much fun, and i love watching them - also your kids and grandkids will watch it, even if you don't frequently. i love watching my parents' and my fh's parents', etc...so it's just a great memory to have. It will last forever and be passed down, but yes all photography and videography is so expensive - so i agree with one of the other posts where she suggested having a friend or family member videotape it. quality isn't as important as just having something....in my opinion. +

Seriously...so many couples think they are going to look at the video for years on end. They never do. Look at history, how many people do you know who have gotten married 10 years or more look at their video, as opposed to their photos? The comparison isn't even an equal one. To me photos tell more of a story than video anyway. To be able to catch a look for eternity it amazing. Seeing my grandmother dancing to La Bamba or something like that is not something I want to remember. LOL!

BTW-Quality is important when it comes to video. Home movies don't last forever and te better quality they are, the longer they will last.

Look at history, how many people do you know who have gotten married 10 years or more look at their video, as opposed to their photos? The comparison isn't even an equal one. To me photos tell more of a story than video anyway. To be able to catch a look for eternity it amazing. Seeing my grandmother dancing to La Bamba or something like that is not something I want to remember. LOL!

BTW-Quality is important when it comes to video. Home movies don't last forever and te better quality they are, the longer they will last.

Everyone's different, as I said, I have close friends who watch their dvd more often than they look at pics. I'm sure if someone was married 10 years ago, their wedding videography was most definitely not what you would get today. This is something about which people will have different opinions, I'm glad everyone is offering them, especially those who are already married--very helpful.

we had my brother tape the wedding. our video came out gorgeous, he did it on his home computer. he also included the rehersal dinner too

I think I really like the idea of hiring a film student to tape it. Quality and editing isn't important. I think I'd rather have something then nothing at all.

I actually did a college search to see what local schools have film programs!!!

I loved my wedding video, and at first we were not going to do video either. Then I met LCA Stuido's at one of the bridal shows and changed my mind about video, I didn't can how much it cost, his work was special and unique and something I wanted to have for a life time. I have seen my video over 30 times already and love watching it.

But if you want to save money my friend told me that for her sister's wedding a friend used their video camera to tape it. My friend then called a place and asked if they could turn the raw footage into something special with music/baby pictures and they could for $200.

This is an idea....
