Re: Just curious on your budgets for your whole wedding?

WOW!

I guess my wedding is really on the small side, including reception, honeymoon, rings and all the good stuff in between.

We should be around 19K, which is 9k over budget, but we are getting alot of assistance from my side of the family.

ETA: Price Breakdown Est.

Reception $5000 (My parents)
Dress & Accessories $1200 (me)
Tux $300 (he wants to buy one)
Hair & Makeup $250 (for just me)
Flowers $700 (me and my brother)
Flowers Part 2 $200 (FH)
Limos $1000 (me and fh)
Invites & Wedding Favors $500 (gift from my sister aka MOH)
Photographer $2000 (me and FH)
Wedding Rings about $1500, we are getting simple platnium bands
Bridal Party gifts $400 (me & FH)
Honeymoon $3000 (gift from FIL's)
Misc expenses, ie marriage lic, ceremony fee, precana, officant's fee, organist, etc $500 ( me and FH)
DJ's $500 (me and FH)

Tips: $800
Misc espenses part 2 ie, bridal lunch, hair makeup trials, etc $600

Grand Total: $19,050.00
If I subtract all the things people are paying for then our part of the wedding is $9,150
So my orginal $10,000 budget is in tact.. thank god we are getting so much help, I don't think FH & I could afford this wedding without them, and still try to move.

P.S. Didn't add the rehersal dinner, because that's FMIL's whole thing...

P.P.S I think my parents will help me pay for my dress and the dj's, since they know we are trying to move..

Re: Just curious on your budgets for your whole wedding?

I haven;t booke dnayone yet, I'm estimating based on teh research I've done and what my sis paid for her wedding, where I'd spend more, wheee I'd spend less. My sis spent about $8K on photo...I'll probably spend even more. I definitely want that to be top of the line if nothing else,..I'm ahobbyist and student photographer, so I'm picky about that...but I'm willing to spend less than the $4K she spend on flowers...

Re: Just curious on your budgets for your whole wedding?

We are also all on our own paying for everything... the only things we dont have to pay for is my FMIL is paying for the favors and my mom paid for my dress. we budgeted 25k not including the HM. SOMEHOW we managed to stay pretty much on budget.. after everything is done MAYBE 28k at the most

i think a lot of times people buy into the whole product 'packaging' some people and studios try to sell. i believe in paying for great shots (and great is such a relative and subjective term) but that's about it...and it will not cost me anywhere near 8K...

Re: Just curious on your budgets for your whole wedding?

Well, I want a LOT of shots taken. I wan the negatives. I want all of the proofs. I want a custom album. I want 2 photographers, photjournalistic and regular, I want parent albums, etc.. and I want the best. Not your standard wedding photographer, but someone who is an artist. My sister's photographer was REALLY nice, and they were really good, but when i looked at the proofs, anyone else would have thought they were great. I was totoally unsatisfied. And as far as pricing goes. You pay for stuff up fornt, bt when you go pick t up and start adding on it adds up fast..so that's why I'm allotting $8K. If I cna spend less and get the quality I want, so much the better!

the albums, the thank you cards, the colossal enlargements, etc. jack up the price for the service. also, the number of proofs are really high, i'm curious to see the ratio of good pics to overall proofs. studios have an overhead cost that needs to be figured in as well. the only pro i see working with a studio is that if there is a last minute problem they can send someone else to cover. although i think a good freelance photographer is well networked anyway and should be able to do the same...

i'm biased because i will be taking care of all the albums and extra 'package items' myself. i want to pay the photographer for his/her time and talent, not all the extras... one can shop around and create albums, one can’t reshoot the day…

I really have no idea. We didn't give ourselves an overall budget. I haven't added everything up and honestly, I don't want to

Re: Just curious on your budgets for your whole wedding?

well, i set a budget of 30K before starting the planning process. needless to say we have blown that budget. we're at about 40K which includes the HM and rings. (HM approx 7K)
