Re: My mother wants to wear black!
I think that Black looks very elegant and gorgeous as well. I can agree that some people think it reminds them of a funeral, but remeber that one piece of clothing in a girls wardrobe should always be a little black dress!! hahaMy friends mom had such a hard time finding a dress for her soms wedding, she went all over the place trying on dress after dress becayuse she didnt want to do black and the bride was giving her such a hard time. She is a bigger woman and didnt feel comfortable in anything other than black ( which she wears every single day) finally she found a black dress that looked BEAUTIFUL on her and she bought it. The bride didnt say anything because to be honest with you you can not control every detail in your wedding. Especially what people wear.
There are going to be other girls at the wedding wearing black cocktail dresses, the groomsmen will be in black tuxedos so why cant your mother??

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
My mom is wearing a black gown. At first I was I questioned it a bit b/c I thought you only wear black to funerals. But it looks gorgeous and very elegant and apparently alot of MOB and MOG are wearing black now. I think most of the pastel colors dresses look kind of old farty. BM's are even wearing black. I think it is fine for your mom to wear black especially if she feels most comfortable in it.

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
A lot of brides always say 'I'm wearing this dress b/c I love it' and doesn't care what anyone else thinks.I think the same should be applied to anyone else. If they're comfortable in it, let them wear it.
The bride is the focus of a wedding - no one will even notice the color of her dress!

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
i can see your point somewhat- i don't mind people wearing black to weddings, but for some reason i just dont like it when MOB/G or BMs wear black dresses- no offense to anyone whos doing this, its just not my taste..... BUT, i also agree with most of the others... there are some battles you just shouldn't pick...and this is one of them. what color your mom wears should be up to her- she has just as much of a right to feel comfortable and beautiful as you do....the wedding is only ONE DAY- you should just be happy shes alive and well enough to be there with you for it....if she insists on wearing a black dress, could you maybe talk her into adding a little color in there somehow- like a colored wrap or shawl or something? that might be a good compromise.....

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
Why would you wear black to a wedding unless it is off black or something like that. To me it is just bad luck.

I don't see anything wrong with it but if it bothers you than explain that to your mom.

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
You should let your Mom wear black. She'll look classy and feel comfortable. Would you rather her wear a color that makes her feel awkward and have a bad time because she doesn't feel good in what's she's wearing?

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
i'm 99.9% sure that my mom will be wearing a black gown to my wedding because that's the only color she thinks flatters her figure and she feels comfortable with that color so honestly as long as she's happy it doesn't bother me. Black is one of the most elegant colors and like some girls already said lots of bridesmaids even wear black so don't let it bother you so much.

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
I have been to a few weddings where the MOB was wearing a black dress and she looked great - very sophisticated! If it is 'dressy' up and fancy she may look better in black then in a color. IMO I would say - let her be comfortable and wear what she wants.

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
I'm happy to hear that there are others who's mom's are wearing black. My mom found a beautiful dress that's black and platinum and it looks amazing on her. She tried on dresses in other colors but, the black was the way to go (since it's a winter wedding, she had to wear a dark color and the others just didn't look right). After I mentioned this, my FMIL decided she might wear black too.

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
Whats wrong with her wearing black? My mom is wearing brown, but I would have had no problem if she wanted to wear black. I told her that up front when she started looking.A formal black gown is not going to look like funeral attire.

i personally dont have a problem if my mother wanted to wear black, but if you really are upset, talk to her, maybe a dark brown instead?

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
no offense but your not paying for your mothers gown so she should be able to get what she wants. i would be more upset if she wanted to wear white.if she feels comfortable in black let her wear black. jmo
i wanted my mother to wear black and she wound up getting navy. she loves it and that is all that matters.
you have alot of other things to worry about for the wedding besides your mother wearing black.

I wouldnt like white, but IMO black can look very elegant sometimes. I think it depends on the dress. Have any pics?
Unless its really inappropriate I wouldnt worry so much about it.
Agreed. My mom wants to wear black and if thats what makes her feel beautiful than so be it.

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
I didn't care what color either mom wore, my mom chose a very nice black gown that had detail on the top and it looked very elegant and nice

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
Honestly, I do not think you can tell her what color to wear. Sorry but I think it can look very elegant and classy. In the scheme of things, is it that big of a deal? It seems like she will not budge so I think it is a lost cause.

Can he be of any help? If you talk to him about it, maybe he'll try to influence her.
I know a lot of people think black is elegant and it's 2006 now, and so it shouldn't matter. But it still bothers me. The idea of my FMIL or grandmother wearing black just makes me ill. I don't care if my guests do it, but I just really find it inappropriate for them to do it. JMHO.
It makes you ill?? I think you need to re-evaluate your priorities, no offense... You're a lucky person, I'd do anything to have my grandparents alive to see me get married... even if they were there in a burlap sack... JMO.
You should really be more careful before you respond that way because you don't know anything about me. I've lost both of my parents and 3 of my 4 grandparents. I'm only 25. It makes me ill because it's what I wore to their funerals and I don't want to think about their funerals on my wedding day. We all have are reasons for liking and not liking things - I just didn't really want to broadcast mine. You shouldn't be so quick to judge because there are probably things about a person or situation that you just don't know. Thanks for making me almost cry today.
I totally agree....LI, you need to watch what you say, you totally came accross like a b!tch there......Please be more selective in the words you pick
