I agree. Mom is wearing black to my sister's wedding, just didn't to mine since it was summer and she felt it was too much for the day ceremony.

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
Why don't you want her to wear black? you don't like the color? You don't like black on her? I think black is elegant and Gorgeous!!! Makes us women look slimmer!

Can he be of any help? If you talk to him about it, maybe he'll try to influence her.
I know a lot of people think black is elegant and it's 2006 now, and so it shouldn't matter. But it still bothers me. The idea of my FMIL or grandmother wearing black just makes me ill. I don't care if my guests do it, but I just really find it inappropriate for them to do it. JMHO.
It makes you ill?? I think you need to re-evaluate your priorities, no offense... You're a lucky person, I'd do anything to have my grandparents alive to see me get married... even if they were there in a burlap sack... JMO.
You should really be more careful before you respond that way because you don't know anything about me. I've lost both of my parents and 3 of my 4 grandparents. I'm only 25. It makes me ill because it's what I wore to their funerals and I don't want to think about their funerals on my wedding day. We all have are reasons for liking and not liking things - I just didn't really want to broadcast mine. You shouldn't be so quick to judge because there are probably things about a person or situation that you just don't know. Thanks for making me almost cry today.
Wow, you really need to chill out, she was voicing her opinion, no need to beat her up about it. Anyway...
I would be upset if my mom or MIL wanted to wear black. I feel it's bad luck, and asked them not to wear it. They both had no promblem, and felt the same way I did. Everyone has their own opinions about things, and I feel that you do have a say in what your mother wears, she's your mother, you want her to look good, but you don't want to look at the pictures years from now and hove it bother you that she's in black. I would offer to go look at dresses in different colors and see if she likes something else. Maybe a navy blue? It may not be the worst thing in the world, but if it bothers you your mother should take that into consideration.

.....that is very inconsiderate after she explained why she was upset by what libride said. This is an open forum, remember but people still have feeling that sometimes get hurt. Stick around, you'll see this happen alot

My mom is wearing black, but thats because she bought a dress without me being there. But I didnt flip because I want to take into account how she wants to look on the big day.

In her defense, not everybody has the time to read through every response and she may have responded without viewing her reasons. In that case, she was only giving her honest opinion.

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
i'm just glad my mom and FMIL will be alive and well at my wedding. that's all that matters to me. i didn't want my mom telling me what wedding gown to get so i'm not telling her what to get. whatever she feels beautiful in, she can wear.

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
honestly, things could be a lot worse, IMO.black is elegant and flattering, that's why it is so popular.
my friend's mom wore white to her wedding, and I was her MOH and didn't even notice. the bride and groom are the focal point.

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
sorry, i hate to echo everyone, but just because you are the bride does not mean you can dictate what people choose to wear to your wedding, even your mom. Don't let it eat you alive, or by the end of planning you will be a MESS! Let it go now and you will get used to it. Good Luck!

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
I think black can be really elegant, unless it looks like an old fashioned mourning dress she should be fine. I can see why you might be upset at black, but if she has colorful flowers to hold it would offset your white or ivory dress really well. The only thing I could see as a problem was if your BMs were in navy blue or brown, then the black would not go so well.ets: I did not read the entire post, but if you were in mourning receintly or have lost parents/grandparents, then yes IMHO it would be inapropriate to wear black.

I second this motion. We're good, so others should be too.

Re: My mother wants to wear black!
I am sorry to hear about your losses. I hope that you and the other liwedding'er were able to make up. When I responded to your posting, I thought what the heck, let your mom wear black, but I didn't know your situation. Anyway I hope that you work things out with your Mom. Maybe she can wear the darkest grey, brown, blue, etc. Also, other people at the wedding will be wearing black. My mom is wearing the deepest of purple, my color scheme is all shades of amethyst. Good luck
