I grew up in RVC would love to move back but it is $$$$$$ we live in Long Beach now and I am ready to get out of here!!!! I think we will look in Merrick, Bellmore, Wantagh areas...
I lived in Long Beach for 2 years and i was so ready to leave after those 2....the commute is killer, i wasnt a beach person and we lived on the beach
I feel your pain RH twin...We looked on the south shore, and choose massapequa because our office is down the street from the house...
Find something close to where you work, cause its so nice not having a commute
yeah commuting stinks that is why we would like to look closer - for me esp. i work in queens and live in mass pk. I love mass pk but i dont want to keep this ridiculous commute everyday.
I just need a town that has a decent train schedule since I work in the city.

If we do end up in Baldwin Harbor, I'm not concerned about the school district since FILs have a great one we can use.

If you do this be real REAL careful.. I know this is down the line, but I can tell you from experience.. little children have a hard time not spilling the beans.. My daughter went to school in my mom's district which was legal cause I worked for the distric and had permission, but when she was in 1st grade she certainly made a point of telling EVERYONE who asked where she lived, that she lived somewhere else.. When she was in second grade, they rounded up about 12 kids in the school and sent them home MID DAY with letters about being out of district and fines and charges.
School districts do NOT play with out of district students.. Teachers turn in names, attendance officers do the research, and if found out they will charge the parents the equivalent of what they pay to educate that child.. (most of the times in excess of $15k for the year) and then turn your name over to the district attorney for more charges..
It can work out fine but you kind of got to groom your children to say I live with grandma.. especially in the lower grades when they start teaching them to know their addresses.. nothing worse than your little muffin saying I live In Baldwin Harbor when she's going to say Valley Stream Schools..
*not saying don't do it.. just be careful!

Re: nassau area house hunters...
We originally were looking in Mass Park, Wantagh and South Bellmore - but now my FH doesn't want a long commute...so we are focusing in on Stewart Manor, Oceanside, Rockville Centre and some parts of Garden City!

Re: nassau area house hunters...
We would like to live somewhere in western Nassau if possible. Right now FH lives in Baldwin Harbor and it takes him about an hour to get to work and sometimes over an hour to get home (he works in the city) and he would really love to cut down on his commute. Plus, I work in Queens so western Nassau/Queens would be a perfect place for us to live.
