what parkways / route will you be taking?? that can be really important in figuring out how long it will take you
i will be taking NSP, LIE to cross island, cross bronx and bronx river parkway. i am familiar with LI parkways but honestly have no idea what the cross island and bronx parkways are like between 7 and 9am, im sure its pretty bad, but i dont know HOW bad...
I take the wantagh to the NSP to the LIE and get off at Springfield which is the exit before the CI. If I leave at 620 im usaully getting off the LIE at 7-7:05. so it iwill prob take you about 30 min im guessing just to get the the CI.
(I also now take 135 straight to the LIE now, so we can hit the HOV) but its still about the same time.
not sure about the traffic on the CI in the AM
NSP is not bad at all in the AM
traffic on the CI in the AM is always going North, unless there is an accident or something south
AYE! i think my best bet is braving the commute and just leaving early. i only have to do this for a month, then i work nights where i will be going there at 8pm and coming home 8am, which from what you say shouldnt be as bad because im going against traffic.
At least i know now and can prepare for the worst! what would i do without my traffic savy LIW girls?![]()
yes, i am telling you, leave early or it will be worse
like you said, only for a month, once you start the evenings, it will be MUCH better and you'll be doing the reverse commute on your way home

I agree to leave early also. When I traveled upstate, I had to go through the Bronx and everything and I left early just to beat the traffic. I left at like 5-5:30 though to beat it..lol You should be fine if you leave at 6:15. There is traffic a lot of later on. Let us know how your first commute was.

actually no not really. i once worked at a building literally 5 minutes from my house and i hated it. i didnt get that 'decompress' time before or after work and i came home stressed. a 20-30 minute commute would be perfect where I get some time to myself and can seperate work from home so i dont come home yelling at FH, lol.

I agree. I need that time for myself driving to work in the morning. Not so much on the way home for me. I just want to get home. I like having that extra time to drive to work in the morning listening to the radio and having my coffee. I think a 20 minute commute is perfect also.

ditto! And I have a chance to drink my morning coffee before I walk into my office... I don't mind a little bit of a commute

My commute is 5 minutes. I live in West babylon and teach in North Babylon, and when we buy a house after the wedding I will not commute more than 30 minutes, but that is b/c I want to get pregnant shortly after we are married and I think about who will be watching my kid and things like that
WAIT!! I teach in North Babylon!! What school are you in? And my commute is 2 minutes because I live in North Babylon

Re: NWR...How long is your commute?
I could see not time to relax. I just hate getting home later. Now with marriage around the corner I think about my commute when I have kids I know it isn't what I want. That is when those shorter commutes will be a good and bad thing. I know that is when you will want that 20 mins on your own but when you need to be tehre those 20 mins will kill you.

Re: NWR...How long is your commute?
3 hours a day.. 1.5 each way.. it is the worst part of my day, but somehow you just adjust to it.Will you be training it? or car pooling? When I took the train, it was part of my meditation for the day, just me and my ipod and sometimes a nap.
If you car pool, it can be great or terrible, if you are with down to earth people you get along with, awesome. Or...it can make your life hell.
Youll do fine, good luck!! Let us know how it goes.

yes, 20 minutes could make a big difference, especially with children, but i hope by then i will be able to work closer to home. LI is very new-graduate unfriendly nowadays so it will be a while until i earn a job on LI.

Re: NWR...How long is your commute?
I take the train to work and my commute is usually an hour.I usually take the 617 train and I get into my building at 715-720.
Coming home I leave school and take the 330 train and I am home at 420ish......gotta love the expresses!
So all in all, both ways 2 hrs!
When I worked on LI my commute was almost 45 min going and 45 min voming home so I dont see this as too terrible
