Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
I booked Ayesha for makeup yesterday. Has anyone used her -- trial? I love her makeup looks. Not too sure if I will like her hair, but her makeup portfolio has me convinced! I gave her a deposit to hold my date, and will do a trial once I get back from India.8 more days and I'll be in Delhi '6' !!
Ladies who went shopping in India... Any recs to where I should shop? I'm only going for 1.5 weeks, can't waste any time!

I'm thinking of changing into a bridal lehenga for my reception, but I'm not too sure yet. I want something like this one.Bridal Lehenga
Does anyone have suggestions on where I should go to find one? I'm going to go to Jackson Heights in Queens, but I wanted to know if there are any other places I could check out.

Rose Boutique and Khoobsorat have awesome stuff. They are both in Hicksville. A little pricey but really nice.
Kitty at Rose is very sweet and helpful I suggest you go there. I hear the people at Khoobsurat at are a little stuck up, based on that I never visited their store

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Hello everyone! My name is Kris and I'm recently engaged. I found this forum while doing some searching online and let me say...you ladies are a great resource! I have a couple of questions that I'm hoping for some help with.
My background is Irish-American, and FH is Bengali. Much of his family is here in the States (many of them in the NY/NJ/PA area) and we're hoping to combine both of our cultures into the one day. Seeing as how my family, for the most part, sticks to typical American reception-type food when it comes to weddings and his sticks to Indian food, we've decided on a buffet that will feature both. Sounds crazy, I know...but there's really no way around it. I've noticed that quite a few of you are booked/have held weddings at the Crest Hollow, Huntington Hilton, and Floral Terrace. I know that the Hilton has the capability to provide Indian catering; do Crest Hollow and Floral Terrace? I've e-mailed them both but have yet to get a response. I know that the Sterling does both American and Indian food, but his family has held SO MANY weddings there that it'd be nice to try something new!
Thanks in advance for any help! This forum is such a wealth of knowledge, especially since FH doesn't have any sisters and isn't particularly close with any of his female cousins whose brains I could pick!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
hi Kris. The Huntington Hilton caters exclusively from Sitar on Jericho Tpke. Crest Hollow and Floral Terrace will also allow Indian food to be catered. I had my wedding at Venetian Yacht Club and they allowed it. Instead of e-mailing, I would just call the places that you are interested in and ask if they allow food to be catered.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Hey all,Thanks for the quick responses. I'll definitely be compiling a list of places to call, since I haven't had any e-mail replies as of yet.
Seems that from the research I did online, Sitar has closed down, though. Too bad, because the reviews I found before I found out they're no longer in business sounded pretty fabulous.

I'm sure that RH found a new caterer to use. Chateau Briand exclusively caters from Tandoor. Crest Hallow only allows outside catering on Fridays... Almost all hotels allow outside catering. Venetian Yacht club only allows on Sunday's... Jericho Terrace doesn't allow... NHP Inn doesn't allow... Terrace on the Park does... But I think bc you are having both, these places might make exceptions for you.
I am Punjabi but my fiance is Bengali as well! We are doing a Punjabi ceremony...
Any Bengali girls on here? Or Indian girls marrying Bengali guys and having issues with the differences?

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
1. Anyone order a surowski crystal cake topper?I ordered mine from Ebay. I told the guy I would over night him my dresses material so that he could match the color. He will then snail mail the crystal to me, and once I approve he will start. He lives in Cali... This all seems to time consuming. Should I just go with the clear crystals? Have any of you guys done mixed colors?
2. I need help with hair ideas.
For the sangeet I really wanted a poof with curls. For the ceremony, my bangs will be parted so that the tikkah fits properly, small poof behind it and then a big bun not to intricate because the chunri will cover it anyway. Then for the reception I am having a big poof with my bangs swept to the side, coil type of updo and a flower on the side. Problem is, the front of my hair looks the same for the sangeet and the reception from the front. BLAH.
3. Have any of you ladies ordered a cake from Butter Cooky?
4. Anyone know where I can get a custom made hair flower made from?
5. Anyone on here made a photobook guest sign in?
I want to make one! I like that smartbook.com has the option for 'guest book' lines but horrible backgrounds. Shutterfly has the most perfeft background/theme but I don't like that there are no lines!
6. I think we are catering from Mint in NYC. Have any of you guys used them?
7. Any ladies on here that used Ayesha with pics?
Speaking of her, I paid my deposit. Now I need to set up my trial -- emailed her 2 days ago and no responce! Grr.
I think thats it... For now!
