Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
I was told the typical price is around $200. I contacted one henna artist and she said it's $200 for 2 hours; the traditional bridal henna up to your elbows and knees will take a while to do, so expect to pay a lot.

Sorry this is kinda a late response....i always forget about checking this thread!!
i have been quoted $400 for 2 mehndi artists to do about 10 people...both hands...i dont remember if that included the bridal mehndi.
i'm thinking of hiring professionals to do my henna, my mom's and my bridesmaids....then for the guests at the mehndi party will be done by a friend of mine who does henna as a side job.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
well i did go to the Utsav showcase on Sat....i was extremely disappointed!! they had one small room in the hotel...they did not have many outfits to choose from....mostly saris ( but nothing too fancy). When i asked to see their Lenghas she brought out 2!! and they were way over priced.Only good thing that came out from that showcase is i got to see what their material is like. Everything was really good quality. I think i might order something online...we'll see...

Re: Indian food at Grand Prospect Hall--and reviews?
Hey all--not much action on this thread lately, but I thought it was the best place to ask about Indian events at GPH in Brooklyn. I really liked the venue (except the outside...but whatever), but wanted to know if anyone had been to an Indian event here and tried the food. They make their own Indian food...just nervous because they also do Russian / Chinese / Sushi / Italian / etc. etc.
They can't be good at everything...any thoughts?
Also, if you've been to a wedding here, wondering where they did the baraat? (street outside or cramped front lobby...)

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Hi gals, and guys...We just booked an amazingly talented desi wedding photographer!. He is based in South Florida (near Miami, in Fort Lauderdale to be precise), but travels all over the country.
His work is spectacular and his pricing is very reasonable.
Anyway, I just wanted to share this with you guys because I know how hard it is to find a GOOD indian or pakistani photographer.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Hey everyone! I'm new here and absolutely LOST. I've been calling around so many places, and went to visit the row of halls on davenport (westchester)I have my heart set on an outdoor wedding, or at least a place with views of the water . I loved the venetian yacht club, but they don't allow outside catering on saturdays
Anyway, my question to you girls is -- do you know of any nice places by the water in NY (LI, BK, SI, even jersey) that will allow indian food, and is not going to charge me ridiculous 'facility rental' prices...considering we all have to get outside catering anyway which makes it more $$$ Thanks in advance !

RE:OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
India is an ocean of culture. The Indian dressing culture also holds its ground for being exceptionally famous in India, the USA and globally. Indian Ethnic Wear is the real limelight of Indian festivals. Everyone in the family likes to get dressed in traditional style for festive gatherings. Even western people love to try Indian Ethnic Wear on special occasions these days. But how is it getting so popular across the world, let’s find out?
Familiarity
Although today’s Indian Ethnic Wear carries lots of alteration and modification over the ancient one, it doesn’t lose its initial inspiration. The Indian Culture is the oldest and the outsiders don’t need to know it from start. They are familiar and close to Indian culture for centuries.
Variety
The Indian Ethnic Wear doesn’t relate to a single culture. It depicts, Punjabi, Haryanvi, Gujarati, Marathi, Himachali, Tamil, Bengali, Rajasthani and many other dressing cultures.
Comfort
Traditional Indian Wear is mostly composed of Silk, Khadi, Cotton and Georgette materials that provide great comfort on occasional gatherings.
Moreover, Indian Traditional Wear is strongly promoted through Indian Cinema creating over a thousand films per year around the world raising a great amount of interest among the oversea viewers. That’s quite amazing!
