Re: Official Vanderbilt Mansion,Oakdale Thread
Wow those pics make me soo psyched to get married there. I love the mantle piece arrangement where there is three arrangements cascading down.. Can't afford that though.I am using thier placecards, thier menus and direction cards. i am having a friday night wedding... starts at 3pm. I am not having the vienesse hour. The dessert plate comes with the strawberry, the cheesecake and the wedding cake and a fruit tart! God I think with all the food they serve that the dessert plate should be enough.
I am going to the tasting on the 12th.. so excited! I was thinking a picture with all the grandchildren in front of, or on the steps this morning.. How nice would that be?
BTW.. so psyched for this thread

Re: Official Vanderbilt Mansion,Oakdale Thread
They said they provide glass votive candles for the cocktail hour?Weird question.. Is anyone thinking of using the chocolate truffle they give out to each guest as thier favor to save $$. I called maryann. the chocolate is wrapped all pretty and they said that if I got personalized ribbon they would add it to the chocolate..
ALSO.. something else I got.. I have a lot of non-drinkers (fh is from the bible belt..lots of holy rollers... Not like my drunken irish family
) so they are going to walk around to each table and offer sparkling cider or champange for the toast rather than just pouring the champange before everyone offers the room.

I'm pretty sure they provide the votive candles for the CH.I think using the chocolate truffle as a favor is a great idea!
We're getting married in Dec so the ceremony will be in the conservatory but the photos of the courtyard ceremonies we seen are beautiful!

Re: Official Vanderbilt Mansion,Oakdale Thread
They do provide the candles but I am thinking of having floating roses instead since I have a day wedding.I am not sure if I should do the vienesse (sp?)? I am afraid people will be stuffed and it will be a big waste.
I think the truffle as favor is a great idea!!!

I think the truffle as a favor is a great idea as well......meybe I will do that too......I am doing a donation but also purchased pins for everyone and was going to put it in a box filled with chocolate......maybe I'll find something else to fill the boxes with and also provide ribbons for the truffles........are you sure they come wrapped? I was not aware of that.SFP0214, I like the idea of going around with the apple cider as well, that is a nice touch and considerate of those that really do not drink!
MTA, I think I saw floating rose candles at Oriental Trading for a really good price....you should check that out.....

Re: Official Vanderbilt Mansion,Oakdale Thread
Thanks for the heads up on Oriental Trading.I went to the tasting and you girls are gonna die, it is soooooooooo gooooooooood!
My family was so impressed and we were so stuffed! I can't wait to hear what you guys think.
People always ask me how I found the Vanderbilt, so I thought I'd ask you guys - How did you come to spend your most special day at the Mansion!

Re: Official Vanderbilt Mansion,Oakdale Thread
Lauretta, I was going to ask that question too!! When I booked VM I asked Maryann about them and I was under the impression that they were not wrapped and a waiter gives one to each guest as they leave....she did say that I could get truffle boxes and they could package them if I wanted to. But if they are already wrapped, I like the idea of just getting personalized ribbon for them.....can someone who is going to the food tasting on the 12th ask about that and then let us know?
Also, does anyone know what they taste like? I was originally going to get godiva chocolates but I don't want to do the godiva and the truffles.....to much don't you think???
I think I am going to regret ordering favor boxes on impulse
I may not be able to use them.

Re: Official Vanderbilt Mansion,Oakdale Thread
Great question mta!!I found the VM by accident - I first wanted a place by the ocean and I found out about Lands End and really liked the place from pictures I saw on there website! After calling to find out more info about Lands End, I realized that it was too big and I wouldn't be able to garauntee the # of people. So, I went back on their website to check out the other places they were affiliated with and I found out about VM......that was the second place I went to see on Long Island and I knew that was the place! Fell in love with the place instantly! Unfortunately, when I went to see VM I was with one of my sisters and she was not impressed because she liked the Liberty House in New Jersey (which was my first choice until a few things changed). Luckily when I went back to see VM with FH he liked the place better than the other two and our decision was final! I do have to say that for me the most CRUCIAL time was waiting to finalize the date (1 yr. policy) let's just say my mind went haywire
but it was well worth it thus far! Can't wait for 7.31.05
and to read the reviews from all of you before me!!
I get so excited everytime I read a VM review!!!

Re: Official Vanderbilt Mansion,Oakdale Thread
I bet you can sell those favor boxes on liweddings. I'm not going to the tasting but I can have my parents find out b/c they'll be there. If they are wrapped in boxes then I will add ribbon and a scroll (we're donating to St. Judes, too). I fthey are just being handed out on a little paper thing, I will probably end up making another little favor. But supplying ribbon is no big deal.

Re: Official Vanderbilt Mansion,Oakdale Thread
MTA is going and I think SFP0214 is going as well.....no - unfortunately can't sell on here unless there is another Maria & Gabriel getting married (there personalized) I have to figure something to put in them....maybe I'll have my sisters use them for my Bridal Shower.....if I'm having one
That's great doing a donation to St. Jude!! How are your plans coming along?

Re: Official Vanderbilt Mansion,Oakdale Thread
Wow, i love this thread even though my date has past. You make me want to do it again.I made a few pics too.
mcc101: that is me and my DH by the water with the sunset, the last pic on page 1.
We love that pic too.
We lucked out with the weather, and timing, the clouds cleared at sunset. So, Verdi, the great photographer he is, brought us down to the water and started snapping pics.
The only thing is, My DH doesn't like his hand on my neck, he says he looks like the hulk manhandling me. hahahaha
