Photographer Meeting

I am "interviewing" my first photographer tonight and have no clue as to what to ask, what to look for, etc. I know the basic package prices, and I know what I am looking for picture-wise, but how do I know if the person is better at posed shots rather than candids? What other things should I be aware of while interviewing?

No need to be paranoid.......just aware. : )

? to ask

Take a look at www.theknot.com. I think that the site has a checklist of ? to ask. What I was advised is to ask to see a WHOLE portfolio of one wedding. This way you see all the pics, not just the ones that they put in the album. Also, if you are going to a place that uses more than one photog on staff, ask to see the complete portfolio of each one of them.Eachperson shoots differently.

Also, try to see pics that were shot indoors and outdoors.

If you are interested in candids, after viewing the whole portfolio, if you don't see any there ASK ABOUT IT. If it is important to you, you need to see it- and a few diff versions.

I have the best photographer. He is especially good w/candids however, the posed shots he takes are beautiful as well. He came highly recommended to me by four different couples. He has a wonderful personality and really takes care that everyone enjoys themselves. His name is Denise and he owns Visual Image in Merrick. They are a little pricey but I've heard that he is well worth it.

What is pricey? I don't even know what a "good" price is.

Check out Fine Art in Jericho. They answered all of my questions even the silly ones. Our package is about $4500 that includes alot. They are very flexible and offer alot for the photo/video. Check them out. I shopped around and found you get what you pay for. Pay attention to the detail of the pictures- are the dresses fixed properly etc. Fine Art was very creative with their shots. Give them a shot and let me know what happens.

Just mentioning Rick & Co in Sayville...havent used him YET, but there have been many positive things posted about him on this board. He is very nice & his work thatIve seen is excellent. I am paying 1800 for full coverage, 40 8x10's, 2 parents albums w/ 5x7's, various lose photos, and thank yous. Prices REALLY seem to vary....thoough I personally havent seen anything for less than $1500 that included full coverage & more than just 1 album

One of the questions to ask is about back up equipment in the event there is a problem with a camera or film. Find out about the proofs. Whether or not you get to keep them or the album they are given to you in. I am not using a big studio. I am using someone who also came highly recomended, who is a friend of a friend sort of thing. He is doing my wedding for $1900. For the package we are getting, its a great deal. Worth looking into anyway. If you want the name and number just let me know.
