Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

I think it really depends on the crowd and how far they need to travel.

I'm having my ceremony on a Sunday morning, with the reception ending in the early afternoon. The reason I'm doing that is 1.) it is cheaper and 2.) my whole family is coming from out of state (mainly NJ). I figure if it ends early enough, they will have enough time to get home and will still be able to get to work on Monday.

I have attended several Sunday weddings (was even a bridesmaid in one) and never noticed tons of people leaving early.

Oh, and another thought...you will never make everyone happy (there will always be someone will complain about something!), so do what you think is right. If someone is really put off by what you decide, then they can stay home, IMO.

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

I think as long as it's a morning wedding, it's not a problem. Sunday evenings make things too difficult for people, IMO. Adults have work and kids have school the following day and nobody wants to stay up until midnight the night before. We ended up with a Sunday, because that was all that was available in May and we were set on May, but when we realized how much cheaper it was, we figured Sunday would've been our choice anyway.

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

for me personally, if it's in the tri-state area and i'd be back and in bed by 12:00 then there is no problem. if i have to commute out of town, this person would have to be really close and important to me to consider...

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

Our wedding was on a Sunday evening in March. Some of my friends complained but they were there and if they needed to leave early they did. If I could have had it on a Sunday afternoon, would I have? No, because I agree with sopmeone else who said that they didn't feel it was as much of a party atmosphere during the day. Also, I was up early enough for pictures. I would have had to have been up even earlier and I like my sleep.

In all honesty however, DH, who is sitting here says he probably would have preferred a Sunday afternoon. So, do what YOU and DH want and don't worry about your guests because someone will always have something to say.

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

My cousin had a Sunday wedding that ended at 9pm. I thought it was wonderful. Everyone stayed until the end since even if they travelled an hour to get there, they were home by 10pm. I absolutely hate late Sunday evening weddings. Since it will be in December, it will be dark anyway and you will have the same kid of feel that a 12 oclock ending wedding would.

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

I had a similar problem...I was all for a Sunday day but as I worked it out, since I was getting married at the hall, I would have had to wake up amazingly early (4 or 5 am) and a couple of my friends said (we're going to drink at noon?). Twilights were very hard to come by...actually only windows on the lake would give me one of those but I wound up going to MPI and wound up getting a Saturday night for about the same price (I just had to be flexible with the date) it was only three weeks before my original date. So, IMO Sunday afternoon is too early for people, and Sunday nights no one wants to stay late (but ultimately it's YOU who has to be happy! Those who love you the most will stay to the end)

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

i'm having a sunday morning wedding. we are on a tight budget and are having many people.. this was the easiest option. at first i was a little skeptical but now i like our decision. we have the whole weekend to do all the last minute things. and since our wedding is sunday morning out of town guests can still leave early enough (reception ends at 5) to catch a flight or drive home.

plus, FH and i have the rest of the day together. and if people are going to say 'No' just because my wedding is on a sunday, did i really want them there anyway?

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

I am having my wedding on a sunday evening. We were considering having it earlier, but I personally did not think that it would work out for me. I have trouble sleeping when i am nervous or excited...to have a 12pm wedding, I know trying to get sleep to wake up at God only knows what hour would be a disaster! Plus, since we are having the wedding in august, the evening is a little cooler and since we are having our wedding outside, we would not have to worry about roasting our guests to nice crisp. I am a little concerned about people leaving early, especially since east wind is so far away, but what i did was i randomly asked a bunch of people coming to my wedding if it would matter...they said it wouldn't and are going to actually stay at the Inn that night anyway (LOL...a lot of people, even in town people want to stay at the Inn!). I also like the way the reception room looks with candles and dimmer lights...and a sunset would make a nice photo op! If they have enough notice, people will take off of work if they feel they can't do without that extra hour or two of sleep. But I really don't see it as too much of a problem...go for it! It's worth the money you'll save!

ETA: I think it also depends on the time of year you are being married in. I am having a summer wedding so it will still be light out, which is important to our wedding. Your wedding may have different needs, but if you are planning to have any pictures taken outside, you may want to opt for an earlier start time. Also...I think of all these things...in the event that there is inclement weather...maybe not on your wedding day...even if it was a day or 2 before...an earlier start time would be beneficial because any snow or water will be melting, in the evening it will be icing making for a trecherous commute home. In NY you never know how the winters are going to be.

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

What about a sunday before a holiday? I am doing the sunday before presidents day so I am sort of getting a sat. night for a sunday price.
I also think sunday afternoon weddings are great. FeliciaDa's wedding ended around 10 and it worked out perfect. I was home in bed by 12. - around the time I would normally go to bed and I was able to have a great time and not freak out about how tired I would be in the morning... the only difference really was watching how much I drink ( not a big drinker anyway)

My wedding was on a Sunday that started in the afternoon- cocktail hour begin at 3 and the chuppa was at 4:30. Everyone stayed till the end- it didn;t end that late and people were able to go home and get a decent night's sleep before work on monday.

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

I'm doing Sunday night before Memorial day. Invite time 5:30, Chuppa 6:00, cocktail party 7:30, end of party 11:30. Many places will charge you saturday night rates for a sunday before holiday--which is a total waste! But many will charge you sunday rates. Just book early!!!! A lot of us have the same idea :)

I don't mind Sunday weddings at all. I prefer them to a Friday night wedding, but all of my friends HATE Sundays weddings - I guess I'm the minority in my crowd!!

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

I am having a Sunday evening wedding and with the viennese hour it will end at 1am. I don't really care how other people feel about it - they aren't footing the bill. If my guests want to leave early that's fine - I have no problem with it. The two most important people will be there to the end and that is all that matters to me. I know that most friends and some family will stay until the end - my troopers who are always up for a good time. I have been to plenty of wedding where I had to make the decision to make an adjustment - whether it be to take a day off from work or stay out late. I have done it for others and never complained - it was my choice.

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

I have attended both Sunday evening and Sunday afternoon weddings. I like Sunday afternoon weddings. You can still have a few cocktails and get home at a reasonable hour. Just a thought-many people are getting married on Thursdays these days....I have a friend that is getting married on Thursday before Labor Day. That may be an option. Good Luck and any way you do it, it will be wonderful.

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

I don't mind Sunday weddings, as long as they don't end too late..if it ended anytime past 11pm, I probably wouldn't stay to the end. We went to a Sunday night wedding last year that was in NJ and ended at midnight. We stayed until the end, and by the time we got back to the city, it was like 2am! Needless to say I was basically useless the next day at work!!

I am having a Sunday wedding and I dont mind at all. My ceremony will be at the hall at 1130am. The cocktail hour, is an hour and a half, from noon to 130, and my reception is 130-530. I think that gives everyone times to get home and unwind for the night.

I kind of agree with this. Mine is on a Saturday but the timetable is pretty much the same. I like the fact that my guests will be able to still have the rest of the evening to party if they want to, or, for out of town guests, if their flight is the next day, have plenty of time to get themselves together. Plus the fact that it saves AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT of money!

Mine will be a Sunday wedding. In my opinion, if your family and friends wants to share your special day they will come no matter what. And if they couldn't make it, that's okay too because it's all about you and your FH

Thanks for the advice and opinions! Keep it coming. Friday night and saturday daytime are not options b/c FH is Jewish...

What about a Sunday daytime wedding, which would edn at 5 or 6 pm?

I probably wouldn't go to a Sunday night wedding or I would leave early. A Sunday day wedding i would stay for the whole thing. I think thats a good idea.

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

Ours was Sunday night ended at 11pm. I didn't notice people leaving until 10:30pm and many, over 100 people!, stayed till 11pm.

Not only did we save tons of $$$$$ but we had the WHOLE place to ourselves. We were the only party, I always hate bumping into other partys in the halls and bathroom.

Also I prefer Sundays to Friday nights. I hate rushing home from work to get ready and go, I rarely make it to a Friday church either.

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

I am having a Sunday 6:00 reception that ends at 11 and NOBODY has complained about it. I think if it ends at a decent time , it is fine. Personally, I HATE Friday night weddings because it is always such a rush to get ready and then everyone is tired and lithargic from the long week. Saturday night weddings are awesome, if you can afford the $$ and the larger minimum guarantee.
