We picked a Monday afternoon on a holiday weekend for the same reason $$$$. I also had the same concerns but as many of these ladies pointed out to me those who are near and dear to you will be there and enjoy it and will never remember it was an off day. If you love the idea they will love it for you!!

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..
My wedding was on a Sunday of Columbus Day weekend. Many people had off that Monday and some people took off. I sent save the date cards so people knew in advance. I think this helps a lot. Also my wedding ended at 10:30 which is early. Everyone still had a great time.
I prefer Sunday evenings over the afternoon.
I don't think people are in a mood to party in the afternoon. I aslo think it is easier than a Friday because people have to rush home for work. This is just my opinion. In the end no matter what day you choose if that person wants to be there for you they will be.
I wish that I was able to have Saturday also but I could not afford it at Chateau Briand. I had it on Sunday and I was still able to have it at the place I loved.
All the best, whatever you choose.

IMHO, if people won't come to your wedding because it's on a Sunday, do you really want them there anyway? It's one thing if they honestly can't make it, but some people are saying the just wouldn't go. The only people I wanted at my wedding were people who really wanted to share the day with me. I would never invite anyone who felt it was a chore or imposition to come.

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..
At least it is December so a Sunday day wedding will be dark towards the end, so it will make it more of a party atmosphere. Of course Saturday night is ideal, but that's also why it is more money. The people who would normally go nuts and have fun, I believe, will do it no matter what. The main thing is that you and your fiance come to a decision that makes both of you happy. My fiance and I had different opinions so we compromised and found an affordable place so that we could have it on a Saturday.Whatever you decide, it will be wonderful so try not to stress...I know easier said than done but I've been there:) Good luck!!!

You wanted an honest opinion and I have been to two weddings on a Sunday. I did not enjoy it. I kept thinking about work the next day and everyone didn't really seem to have as much fun. As it got later at the wedding people seemed to be having more fun but then it was over.My best friend is getting married on a Sunday but it is a holiday weekend so everyone has off on Monday. Is that a possibility for you? I say splurge and get married on a Saturday!

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..
I went to a sunday night wedding my stepbrothers and I have to admit it was the worse- I got home at 1 am the event ended at midnight but by the time everyone leaves and you help and say goodbye I was home late and had to be up early at 630 am. lots of people commented on that and by 1030 the place was pretty empty. I would do a day on a sunday not a night. if you cant do it adjacent to a holiday where your guest are off dont do a night, yes your family will want to be there but you have to be considerate to your guests as well and b/c everyone knows sunday nights are cheaper the gifts werent as great- they did well dont get me wrong but not as good as my stepsister on sat night. also if people are traveling have to take into consideration traveling plans as well. sundays are tricky. why cant you do a friday or sat day? I have a friend whos jewish and she got married on friday night?

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..
My Sunday night wedding story, which might be relevant since you said you have a lot of OOT guests (which we were). The wedding was in New Hampshire on a Sunday at 4pm. FH had a trial the next day and could not take off work (like most of the other OOT guests had done). So, the whole time we like 'how late is this thing going? can we leave yet?' even though it was a very good friend's wedding. In general, it didn't really have a 'party' vibe, but the band wasn't that good--they just played elevator music really. We left at 10:30 and I drove the whole 6 hour drive home while FH used my laptop to prep for his trial. It was not good. My advice is that if you have a Sunday wedding, maybe have it a little earlier in the day. THe other problem with this wedding was that it was very unclear when the reception was starting/ending--not a problem for us LI girls--we know it's 4 hours!
ETA: the drive was in torrential rain. I might still be a little bitter...just a little
