Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

I'm also having a sunday afternoon wedding to save money. I've gotten some flack for it but it was the only way we could afford it. A majority of the people that are traveling are teachers, so it doesn't really effect them. The rest of my friends know far enough in advance that they are able to take off. I think as long as you give the really important people enough notice it should be fine. Best of luck with your decision!

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

I am having a Sunday evening wedding in the summer.

The church is at 3:30 and coctails are at 6- with the reception ending at 11.

We could have done Friday night- in fact at my hall it was cheaper but I had just been to a few Friday night weddings and there was no-1 at the church.

I feel in love with Carlyle and couldn't afford it on a Sat night so went with Sunday- I wanted an evening wedding.

My thoughts: Those who love you will be there and they have advance notice- Most will be home by 12 and with the notice- a lot of people have already said they are taking MOnday off or going in late.

People understand that although everyone would love to have a Sat. night wedding- it's not always possible. there was no way I was going to ask my parents to pay 185pp for 200 people- not even including tax or gratuity.

Don't 2ng guess yourself- do what you want to and need to do- it is YOUR day!

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

Now, to add to more confusion. I was originally planning for Sunday July 3rd during the day. A night wedding was not an option for us... we fall asleep too early and most of our guest list are age 40 plus (have kids at home etc.) But that sunday is really like a Saturday because all have off that day.

Well, now I am getting married at 11am on Monday July 4th and the party will end at 5:30 pm(no after party, we don't want one). Thiis will give people time to get back home and go to work the next day. I've also heard that a lot of people try to take that week off anyway. I'm not worried it's the summer.

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

I think you should definately do it if it saves you that much money, and you feel you don't have that much money to spend.

I wanted a Sunday wedding, but did want people to stay late. So, I am getting married on Memorial Day Sunday... Unfortunately, though, my wedding ends at 2am!!!!

I wonder how many will stay till the end!

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

Sunday is great as long as it doesn't end too late. Maybe you could get the cocktail hr to start at 5 or 5:30 and the reception at 6 or 6:30-10:00/10:30?

I wouldn't stay until the end if the reception ended later than 11.

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

It really depends on your guests. - If they are major party people and mostly young - A Sunday night, while not really ideal or convenient......will be just as much fun as a Saturday night.
Friends of ours did a Sunday night @ the Crescent in June. - We complained about having to go to work the next day - but got over it once we were there and having an awesome time. - It was one of the best weddings i've ever been to

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

I think Sunday night weddings are fine. I am having one and at first i thought it might me a problem but then I realized it ends at 11:30 that is really not late I am usually up until 12 myself. Anyway the people who want to be there will be there, which I know is the majority. My family and bridal party are staying over at the hotel next door so everyone can enjoy themselves. Also we are saving a bunch of $ so it is defintley worth it. I know it will be great I am psyched.

we had a sunday night wedding that ended at 11:30pm and I don't think anyone left early... in fact, many people hung out at the pub at the hotel afterwards... it was awesome!

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

I am having a sunday evening wedding the recetion will end around 12 or 1230 am and none of my family or friends said anything. the people who care about you are going to be there no matter what, I went to a wedding on a friday evening this past auust and almost everyone was late because they went to work and tried to leave early and the traffic out into long island is so bad on a weekday that I dont think it makes any difference
by the way My date is not on a holiday weekend there is work the next day but my family and friends are used to going to bed after 1 am
again its all on you and what you want, everyone has more than enough time to ask for the day off if they want it or call in sick.

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

people generally take off a day a work (monday) for a sunday wedding just like they take off friday (depending if they have to travel or what time ceramony starts) for a friday wedding.... this is why saturday is ideal. as for sunday wedding...i'm doing a sunday wedding... and for that fact, i've never been to a saturday wedding.

Save your money...people will come no matter when you get married unless of course they are paying for it which it sounds like they arent since you are posting this message

I am having a Sunday afternoon wedding and the cermony starts at 12pm. I would of rather had a Saturday or Friday night wedidng but we saved a lot of money booking Sunday afternoon. I think that Sunday weddings do have a diffrent feel but it is what you and your guests make of it.

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

I am having my wedding on a Sunday (because it was so much cheaper) and I am not worried at all. Either way (if you have on a Friday or a Sunday) someone is gonna complain about it so who cares - do what's best for you.

Also we choose Sunday because we felt that more people would come to the church - sometimes it's hard for people to take off or leave work early on a Friday.

Good Luck

My Church was PACKED at my Sunday wedding...I have been to only 1 Friday church( I find it hard to make it to the ceremony on Friday) and maybe 25 people were there. Most showed up for the reception though.

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

We had a Sunday daytime wedding and it was wonderful!! :) We were able to have our ceremony outside, and the daytime vibe was great!! Our reception room has lots of windows, so there was tons of light in the room. Also, the guests were up and dancing the whole time.

I always had wanted a daytime reception and couldn't picture anything else for my wedding.

I think sunday weddings are fine. I don't particularly leave early because it's sunday. Big deal if I have a few hours less sleep for one day or maybe I take the next day off. I personally hate day weddings. I don't feel like its really a party atmosphere. I don't drink cause I feel its way too early to even do so. JMO.

I feel exactly the same way. And, of the 10 weddings I have this year, only three of them are not Sunday nights! I know your FH is Jewish - his family and friends will be very used to this, most of the time this is when Jewish weddings are.

Also, marymoon, I'm not sure what you decided about your officiants but most Catholic priests will not marry you on a Sunday morning because it conflicts with regular mass.

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

We are having a Sunday twilight wedding for religious reasons. Unfortunately, it is just as expensive as a Saturday night wedding. Our wedding starts at 4pm and ends at 10pm. Please be aware that if you go with the twilight rout that you will sometimes encounter vendors that want to charge you more because your wedding is taking up two slots (i.e. they will not be able to work both a morning and an evening event) Don't agree to the fee - b/c none of the vendors I went with made me contract for it.
As for Saturday night weddings, in the Jewish religion, one cannot marry until 30 minutes past the 'official' sundown. If you are getting amrried in the summertime, then your wedding cannot start until about 9 pm. That is really late IMHO. If you can do a Sunday twilight it still has the feel of an evening wedding, without the late night attached - best of both worlds.
Good luck.
Lisa

Re: Please give your honest opinions about a Sunday wedding..

Thanks for all of your help. I went bakc to the hall I loved, not planning to book, just to show it to my family, and I was seriously considering a sunday so we could afford it. my family loved it and she brought the price and minimum down, so we're having the saturday evening we want! It's a december wedding, so sunset is I think around 4:30 so we should be able to have a 5pm ceremony! I'm very excited. Thanks for all of your ideas. i hope this thread will help pthers. A Saturday was ultimately better for us b/c we have a lot of OOT guests who will need the travel time on Sunday!

Thanks!!!!!!!!!
