I love the Veggie Patch veggie balls! All in all they make some good veggie stuff.
I also love Garden Burger brand nuggets too.. good little snack. I have not really tried other Veggie Patch stuff.. I have to say that when they changed the recipe of the balls- I was not happy! They are still good though.

Morningstar Farms has some good stuff too. Their veggie bacon rocks!!! And their veggie crumbles. I use them to make 'meat' sauce.

I haven't been there in so long.. I am going through withdrawl. FH used to live right down the block from the Union Square one so we ordered from there ALL THE TIME. Ok, now my mouth is watering.
I'm pretty much the same with the 'nothing with a face' mentality. The vegan thing really comes from being crazy allergic to dairy products.

I know what you mean-- I used to live on E. 26th and they would deliver to me.. Now I am on E. 63rd and there is no Zen to be found-- there are none on the east side!! Boo ZP!!

Re: QOTWeekend! Inspired by the gtg food post which had me salivating, everyone post a great recipe or two!
I have another recipe- from Randella's Mom
Jalapeno Almonds
Preheat oven to 325. In small saucepan over low heat, melt 1/4c salted butter(1/2 stick). Stir in 1/3c Jalapeno sauce (made by Tabasco- it's green), 1 Tablespoon Tabasco pepper sauce (red), 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder, 1 1/2 teaspoons salt and 1 teaspoon dry mustard. In large roasting pan, toss mixture with 4 cups whole natural almonds to mix well. Bake 40-45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until liquid is absorbed. Cool- stir in airtight container.
You can adjust the amount of jalapeno sauce and tabasco sauce depending on how hot you like it!!

Kick A$$ BBQ WingsThe key to this is marinate, marinate, marinate ladies..
My Measurements are not exact because i never seem to make the same size batch sooo..
For the Honey BBQ version
1 Bottle of Store Bought BBQ Sauce, I usually by Kraft but anyone will do. To this you add the following
1 Cup of Apple Sauce
2 Tablespoons Karo Syrup or Pancake syrup in a pinch (if you like them less sweet, use honey instead)
I mix it up in a bowl and put it to the side.
Then I clean and cut up the chicken wings (sometimes the supermarket will carry 'buffalo wings' which are just the chicken wings cut up into two pieces, much easier than cutting them yourself, but worth the effort especially if your serving them as finger food.)
I take the cleaned up wings and season them with adobo (you can use salt & pepper) and garlic powder.
I split up the wings into two large ziploc bags and pour half the BBQ sauce into each bag. I zip them up and put them in the fridge over night.
The next day, lay them out on cookie sheets (covered with foil or you will be scrubbing for days! lol) and bake at 350 until cooked through, I suggest letting the sauce dry up, so that they get that sticky consistancy
For the hot and spicy version just add hot sauce to the the BBQ mixture, depending how hot you want them
Enjoy!!

For something quick and simple, yet very yummy, place chicken breasts in bottom of roasting pan cover with cream of broccoli soup. On stovetop, make a package of stuffing according to directions. Cover chicken with stuffing.Place in oven at 350 for 1 hour uncovered.
or
Prime Rib au Poivre
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 1 3/4 hours
Stand Time: 15 minutes
Makes 12 servings
Ingredients:
1 4- to 6-pound boneless beef rib roast
2 tablespoons Dijon-style mustard
2 tablespoons Minced Garlic, Wet
2 tablespoons Peppercorn, coarsely cracked
Directions:
1. Trim excess fat from top of beef, leaving a layer of fat about 1/4-inch thick. In a small bowl combine mustard and garlic; spread over top of beef. Sprinkle cracked peppercorns over mustard mixture.
2. Place meat, mustard up, in a foil-lined 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 2-inch roasting pan. For best results, insert an oven-safe meat thermometer into center of meat. Roast in a 350°F oven until thermometer registers 135°F for medium-rare (1 3/4 to 2 1/4 hours) or 150°F for medium (2 1/4 to 2 3/4 hours). Cover with foil. Let stand for 15 minutes before carving. (The temperature of the meat will rise about 10° during standing.)

Could this work for chicken breasts -- I do lots of marinades but am not a big wingy person.

Re: QOTWeekend! Inspired by the gtg food post which had me salivating, everyone post a great recipe or two!
got this recipe out of the times years ago and have made it tons of times, using different fruits. it's FAB:Nectarine pie:
11 whole graham crackers
8 tbsp butter, melted
5-6 nectarines, peaches, insert fruit here (i'm partial to mixed berries)
1 1/2 cups sour cream
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
-oven to 350 degrees
-grind the graham crackers and mix in the butter; pat 1/2-3/4 of the mixture into pie plate
-add fruit to plate
-combine sour cream, sugar, eggs, and vanilla, and mix until smooth
-pour over fruit and sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture
-bake 40 minutes, until puffed and set in center
-cool to room temp, cover and refrigerate until chilled
to die for.

Re: QOTWeekend! Inspired by the gtg food post which had me salivating, everyone post a great recipe or two!
Spicy Stuffed Peppers with ChickenNot good with measurements, because I kind of measure by instinct.
You can use red, yellow, or green peppers. I like to use the red.
1) Cut peppers in half, after taking out stem, and then wash out and clean out all stems.
2) Cut up uncooked chicken cutlets into cubes or little squares.
3) Place all chicken into a marinade. The marinade is an Italian dressing you have to make. It's Good Seasons, ZESTY ITALIAN, (it comes with 4 packets and a glass container)
4) Cut up onions and green peppers and place in marinade on top of chicken.
5) Then cut up garlic, and sprinkle ADOBO, black pepper, oregano, basil, and cayenne Pepper over marinade also. You can also used crushed red pepper for a spicier taste.
6) So all in all you have the chicken marinating in the dressing with the onions, and all the seasonings mentioned in #5
7) Cook any sort of rice. I use Jumbalaya Mix, but any sort of GOYA spanish rice is fine.
8) Scoop out a little rice into each pepper.
9) Marinate chicken for at least 1/2 hour. Then brown the chicken on stove in pan
10) Then proceed to put chicken on top of rice in pepper and sprinkle cheese on top (Monteray Jack tastes best)
11) Bake for about 20-25 minutes
Hope that made sense, I did this off the top of my head.
