Re: SUV Reviews ??? Good or Bad!

Ron, LOL. Youre learning more than you want to learn here, LOL. Its like a guy being stuck in an all girls slumber party! Hey, who said you were invited?

PS-Leave it to my husband to find this website:

Honda Pilot

Jenn, thats not bad, 30K. I think the Pilot is under $30K, but im sure, not by much

Thanks for the headsup, but, Im not a fan of leasing. Why rent if you can pay mortgage towards something??? Leasing is the same as getting a rentacar for 3yrs. Just makes no sense to me (sorry, leasers! ). My SIL can go into a gazillion PLUSes of leasing.. I just dont see it.
We bought my Civic brand new (and no negotiating, like you all said - we saved on little extras and maybe the transp fee), and now we're trading in one of our cars and paying the rest on the SUV. Too bad they dont do 0% financing.
That would be easy street!

Danielle-definately next time!

Re: SUV Reviews ??? Good or Bad!

It's true about leasing. I could only find something online about ford, but as far as I know, all companies are going to stop leasing in ny. Here's part of an article that i found.

Ford Motor Credit announced Friday it was pulling out of leasing in New York due to antiquated leasing laws which hold leasing companies responsible for accidents involving the leasing customer.
Called vicarious liability laws, the rules got their roots in the early 20th century in an attempt to protect people from accidents involving livery drivers, who were often penniless. Vicarious liability gave accident victims the right to pursue lawsuits against the company owning the vehicle.

A handful of states, including Rhode Island, Connecticut and New York, lack caps on the laws. Ford Motor Credit spokesman Dan Jarvis said the company's exposure is 'several billion dollars.' Most states don't have vicarious liability, but some others, including Florida and Nebraska, limit the amount someone can win in a lawsuit.

In New York, the state senate has passed legislation in an attempt to reform the law.

'We fully and actively support the legislative reform effort; however, we need to limit our exposure as it continues under the present law,' said A.J. Wagner, Ford Credit's executive vice president of North America.

General Motors Corp. has said it is also considering leaving the New York leasing market. Jarvis said Ford Motor Credit is considering exiting the Connecticut and Rhode Island markets, but the company hasn't come to a firm decision yet.

Re: SUV Reviews ??? Good or Bad!

FYI:

if you are planning to have your car for more than 5 years...then buying is better...

but if you like to change your car every 4-5 years...leasing works out to the better price...

we are leasing a car right now (but have the option to buy the remaining balance at the end - which we'll probably do)...this gave us lower payments and a lower interest rate...and the total will be $2K less than if we bought outright

you should crunch the #s both ways...it may come out in your favor to lease to buy...

Re: SUV Reviews ??? Good or Bad!

anna - you are 100% right. Buy do not lease. Especially if you plan on buying the vehicle. Leasing was invented for business owners. Here's the deal. Lets say you are a business owner and either want or can only afford a car payment of $350. Well, because a lease is a total right off for a business you can lease a car for $700 and in reality only pay $350. You still pay the $700 but half that payment would have been paid to uncle sam in taxes. So, you either pay $350 for a car and $350 to taxes or $700 for a better car. (these are not exact numbers but I'm sure you get what I mean) Now, if you do not own a business and you lease you are throwing your money out the window. You can slice and dice it anyway you want leasing is not for the so called average person. Car companies started to play up leasing for the average consumer because 1) car prices went through the roof and they needed to move cars 2) the finance companies make a fortune because when you lease you pay more for the car. Even when a business leases a car it still isn't that great of an advantage (regardless of the above example). A business owner purchases (not lease) a car and can still depreciate the vehicle. And if you have a good year you can depreciate the entire car in one year if you need to. And the company has equity in the car when you buy but not when you lease. So, in my not so humble opinion :-) do not lease, buy the car. It is far better for you financially. And if you lease and plan on turning the car in they hit you with a turn in fee and will charge you for every scratch ding or whatever. On the other hand if you lease and then buy the car they charge you an additional fee to buy the car. Leasing just doesn't pay.

Okay, I'll get off my soap box now!

Re: SUV Reviews ??? Good or Bad!

I agree with Rano...dont lease, it actually does cost more.
Plus, you have to make sure you dont go over your miles, hubby's aunt got screwed, and wound up buying the car in the end, becaue it was cheaper for her to buy the car, because she went over on her miles.

Re: SUV Reviews ??? Good or Bad!

Leasing isn't good for everyone, I agree. Patrick needs a 'getcha there' car to park in Jamaica, so he buys good, affordable, dependable cars and drives them until they drop dead. (His Sentra has 240k miles and is still going strong!)
I, on the other hand, drive a short distance to work, put little milage on my car, and enjoy a new car every few years, so I lease.

This just in from Consumer reports!

In its first year of production, the Honda Pilot was chosen as the top midsize sport-utility vehicle.

Re: SUV Reviews ??? Good or Bad!

I bought a Honda Accord from Huntington Honda 3 years ago and was able to negotiate (actually FH did it....Anna you can borrow him LOL). Well he got them to take $2000 off the price!!!!

If anyone can negotiate a deal I'll DEFINITELY put my money on dear Anna LOL.

And Ron, my next car is totally going to be the Pilot!!!! I'm now a Honda chick

I would recommend Huntington Honda to anyone. Their service department is incredible. I have not had anything but great service and great experiences with them!
