Re: The Official 2007 'Already Married Brides' Advice Thread

OOOooo! I just thought of another one:

Make sure you have a chain of command that day! : If you asked my DH before the wedding, what was RULE #1 on the big day, he would have said, in a monotone (for having to repeat it so much):

If something goes wrong, DO NOT tell you about it, unless every other resource has been exhausted.

This is the chain of command I like to follow:

DOC/Wedding Planner
Maitre D'
Banquet Manager
Captain
Bridal Attendant
MOH
MOB/MOG
DH
Bride

If something goes wrong, it should go to the person at the top of the list and continue DOWN...only if it can't be solved, should the bride be involved.

Also---make sure you bring a sheet that has each vendor's contact numbers and names, just in case you have to make some phone calls!

Re: The Official 2007 'Already Married Brides' Advice Thread

Ok, so i'm not married yet, but it's coming soon...here's my two cents.

Many of us have had this day planned long before FH existed in our lives..haha. We knew what we wanted...but i think it's important to discuss Fh's vision of what he wants for the big day as well. Granted most men don't 'dream' of their wedding day...but they secretly have their little ideas ladies.

There were many things i thought i had 'set in stone'...but when FH told me things he wanted to do and why, I was happy to change things around, and am glad it will be 'our' day because of it and not just the 'brides' day.

I always wanted to have that 'first look down the aisle' moment..and scratched that to get picks out of the way beforehand and be able to mingle with our gusets more...especially since the majority are coming from out of town and other countries to be with us. I watched a friend miss half her wedding taking pics.

Instead of doing 2 separate dances - bride/dad, groom/mom we are combining it into one. We want our guests out dancing with us, not watching 10 minutes of us dancing with our parents...haha.

We are greeting our guests as they come in to the wedding. Yes, everyone will see us before but then we can just party afterward and not waste time walking around saying hi. This is something FH wanted, after attending many weddings in Israel when he lived their for work. After i attending a wedding there with him I was sold on the idea!

He wanted a short and simple ceremony. I was going to throw in a sand ceremony, but when he said he thought it was dumb, i acknowledged his opinion and scratched it off the list. No big deal. After all, a relationship is all about compromise and understanding each others wants and needs. Certain things I kept & FH understands why...communication is also key!

I am not one to follow tradition, but to follow my heart. I've never listened when people have said 'you can't do that.' Or people never do THAT at a wedding. If it's something that means alot to you...then do it...who cares what other people think..it's your day. I also apply this philosophy to my everyday life...haha...

My motto from the beginning has been 'If you don't like what i am doing for my wedding, you don't need to come!!!!' Be true to yourself...don't do things to please your parents or Aunt Gerdy or Grandma...they all had the opportunity to plan their own day...now it's YOUR turn!

Most of all don't lose site of the true reason...uniting your life with FH's. A wedding is one day...a marriage is a lifetime. Good luck and have FUN!!!

2. Don't get caught up in LI Weddings and what every other bride is doing. Don't get me wrong LOVE the site, many of the ladies on here and the great ideas that have been shared but don't feel pressured to spend the money or time on every flippin thing you see on here. Pick and choose. When I first started planning I HAD TO HAVE everything from slipper baskets, to petal cones, to WE DO letters...I started to feel overwhelmed and decided why bother? Not having any of those..lol

LOVE that one!! it is so easy to get caught up!! On the one hand I love all of the ideas-- on the other hand-- i dont need to do EVERYTHING!!

4)Sneak away: Right after the ceremony, DH and I ran into the bridal suite by ourselves. I was DYING to get take my slip off cause I was tripping on it like crazy. So while we were in there laughing and everything, it was a nice moment for just him and I. Make sure you have some time, just the two of you.

YES! I totally agree to this one!! DH and I snuck off to the bridal suite so that I could pee. He helped me get out of my dress and we had quite a giggle at my expense with half a dress and my 'something blue' undies running to the bathroom. It was really nice!

Don't expect a perfect wedding day. We had little things that vendors didn't do. For instance, the cake didn't have flowers on its tiers. BUT the cake itself was amazing.

AMEN!!!!!!!!! Things will not ALL be perfect!!!! My flowers weren't as big as I expected them to be! My placecards were never delivered to FT, One of my groomsman had the wrong tux, We lost over 1 hr of photos at the Old Westbury Gardens, 2 of my BMS were late for the pics! All these things happened but at the end everyone had a great time and I got to marry the love of my life!!!!!
XOXOXOXO
Kitty

hahaha!!! i had to pee too...right before the ceremony! my BM and MOH had to help me in the bathroom, pull down my pantyhose...underwear...position myself on the toilet...and then try and wipe & get everything back together! after which i announced, 'I am NOT doing that again!' and i didn't, i went without the bathroom for about 12 more hours, when i finally took my gown off!
