We are ecstatic, but owning a home, even a newer one, is A LOT of work!! Between 'touch ups', maintenance, arranging 'services' (exterminator, security, landscaping, lawn care, chimney cleaner, carpet cleaner, etc.) we are tired and broke! Thank God we put nothing down, because all the money goes in maintenance and new appliances and 'things to make the house a home'.

So save up to those out there looking to make the home dream a reality...because closing is just the beginning!!

Oh...and size matters!! We fell in love with this house and didn't care that it was so big (there's only 2 of us and a cat!). We just had our land surveyed and have 1/2 an acre that MUST be maintained to community and HOA standards...it's a blessing...but a huge responsibility!!

OK, done with the mini vent. I know I'm very blessed and fortunate, so no complaints here!!

Sasha - I hear ya!!!

I lived in an apartment for so long and moving into a house was a HUGE shock to the system. We also have a big house with quite a bit of property, which needs to be maintained to the town's satisfaction!

Gone are the days I come home from work and hit the couch! I'm always doing something 'house' related now!

Thanks for posting Michelle!! I was starting to feel like I was the only one!! Free time? What's that? You mean, not everyone goes home to work? Emptying boxes tonight, putting stuff away all week, laundry, laundry, laundry and this weekend? A thousand appointments with different companies (satellite, landscaper, fence people) and yard work...woo-hoo!!

The reward is seeing the progress you make and seeing YOUR HOME take shape and become your own. We're a long way away from that, I moved into the house in August when we closed, DH moved in after the wedding but all his 'stuff' (I'm not allowed to call it the OTHER 'S' word!) didn't come until February, so boxes boxes everywhere! But I love when I finish a room and it's MINE!

Soooo true...and the reward rocks!! And this is something DH and I thought would never happen (being homeowners) so my vent is silly because deep down I love being exhausted!!

What town are you in? I live in Woodstock. I'd say it's probably a good 45 mins to an hour away from you.

Congrats on the beautiful house and becoming a GA peach. It took me a while to get used to everything in GA from being in NY, but I love it down here and you couldn't pay me enough to move back up to NY. We're still cleaning up our backyard from the F1 tornado that came rambling through in April and knocked down a good few trees. Like you said, work around the house is never done! But it is awesome to see it turn into YOURS!!!!!!!

Good luck with everything. If you ever get a break and wanna hang out with a NY'er, let me know. With the summer coming up, we'll have some great cook outs and parties.

What county are you in? I'm svcky when it comes to cities, but know the counties, if that makes sense!! I'm in Conyers...Rockdale county. But I work in good ol' Atlanta.

Reading about the tornado makes me think you're in Cobb. Right?

OMG cook outs!! I call them 'barbeques' but found out it's not a BBQ unless you use sauce...otherwise it's just 'grilling'...have you had a 'cat head' yet?!

Thanks Dina!! Do you like the 'decor' so far? I'm such a boy when it comes to things like that!! My sister decorated the half bath downstairs and I loved it so much that I cried when I saw it. I did the rest but hate the living room...oh well.

Seriously dude, when and you and Bill coming? We have guests in June, July and August...summer is filling up!

Come down!! We'll have drinks on the deck, the men can grill (there will be furniture outside soon, promise!! ) and we can picture our imaginary kids running around!

Well, considering the house was already painted and nothing had to be changed...I think you're being too modest. And that's our furniture from NY. We bought appliances and a new bed...that's it. We don't even have window treatments!!

And about visiting.

I understand though. But I'm not happy about it!

The more time goes by, the harder it'll be. Think about other counties D...your 'friend' loves it in Gwinnett...I have yet to hear of someone who wishes they never moved.
