I think using the photo booths is a trend and a bunch of extras that are being used.

I think rather than current 'trends' or 'traditions' going out of style, new things will get increasingly more popular and there will be different ways for people to get married. 15 years ago Destination Weddings were far from being as common as they are now.

Re: What wedding 'trend(s)' do you think.............
pick up gowns are trendy i think (i wore one!
), but i think that the style will probably be popular for awhile.....things in the past that were trendy to me were big puffy sleeves, big tiaras - so to me things like the unity candle and canon in d are more 'traditional' as opposed to trends....
i think a big trend now is wearing your hair half up/half down - thats been pretty popular for awhile....sand ceremonies - that is kind of trendy to me....i dont know, lots of things i guess are trendy - like montages and TVs - i guess that is new trend too?

Mostly everyone wears a strapless gown that will never go out of style.I dont like the trends of people dancing the chicken dance or the electric slide.
Im not a fan of the bouquet toss or the garter toss

Trends aren't things that are tradition so the knot people are nuts!-Pickups are a trend
-dome rings (halos) are a trend
-custom aisle runners
-photo booths, cigar rollers etc, I never remember seeing these back in the day

Re: What wedding 'trend(s)' do you think.............
I think all of the items are trends. They're popular now, but their use may wax and wane according to what's in vogue. The unity candle is used in religious ceremonies, yes, and will always be in weddings to some extent for that reason, but I also see it mentioned a lot secular ceremonies where it's not technically necessary.
Canon in D could grow less popular for wedding use, but I doubt it. It's a pleasant, well known piece.
Gowns--strapless is definitely a trend. Just as we can identify gowns from the 1980s from the large, leg o' mutton sleeves, we'll be able to look back decades from now and identify the time period from the gown style. IMHO, I don't think strapless gowns will look as readily identifiable as the 1980s gowns in retrospect, but I think two-tone gowns, pick ups, and dresses with visible corset backs will (although none are as singularly unflattering as the 80s dresses).
Monograms, candy bars, cupcakes, brown and blue weddings--yes, I think these are trends. I'll also add candy buffets, sand ceremonies (no religious affiliation that I knw of), photobooths, dresses, 'we do' letters, and any 'brown and x pastel color' weddings.

Re: What wedding 'trend(s)' do you think.............
I just wanted to add that unity candles didn't derive from any sort of religion. The idea actually came from a tv soap opera, and people just followed it from there. It can be used in a religious ceremony, but isn't religious. And to add to the original post, what is so wrong with people keeping with the way things have always been??? We are constantly searching for the next big, new or 'hot' thing. I think keeping with tradition, using Cannon in D and things like that are a good thing. We start to lose alot of what the meanings behind a wedding are , b/c we have all of the glitz and glamour associated with it now. Call me old fashioned, but that's just how I like it.
:)
If I think anything is a 'trend' I would think it's more so the 'themes' that are now associated with weddings. I think its a great trend if you want to call it that. I also think another trend is the whole 'dance routine' thing.
It's cute , but I deff think its a trend and wont last long.

i <3 this thread. I was reading it on the knot. Some of it did make me laugh. I dont get how a strapless dress can be a trend...but whatever. I say do what you like!
Some of it was quite amusing but it leads me to ask......what exactly are they doing that they would consider not a 'trend'? And is a 'wedding trend' any different than any other trend? Geez, Im a child of the 80s and I went with all of the trends, neon shirts, leg warmers, side pony tails, big belts over your shirt with leggings and keds........

I'm not a fan of the pick-up skirts and the big choreographed first dance. It can be cute I guess, but for someone that has performed many a choreographed dance before, it just seems silly to me. JMO

JMO, but i think a lot of stuff is overdone, there are like a million weddings a year, how much new stuff can be done while still looking like a wedding?

Re: What wedding 'trend(s)' do you think.............
Another trend is 'bling' - rhinestones, crystals, jewelry on everything - cake topper, invites, centerpieces, cake, dress, shoes (what else am I missing)...oh btw, I'm copying this trend in my wedding..lol!I'm sure in a couple of years bling on everything will be a thing of the past and something else will be popular and I'll say, why didn't I think of that!
oh..also diy invites and pocketfold type invites..that's pretty new and may not last forever..right?

I think you hit it on the head. Definitely the 'bling' factor. Pocketfolds too but I'm still doing them
