**UPDATE**

I spoke to the Dir of Volunteer Services at Little FLower.

I told her we'd love to do something for the children.

There are 95 Children, about 16 per cottage.
She suggested doing something for one cottage. They are separated by age/gender.

She also suggested after the New Year, since it will be less busy and chaotic for everyone. This might be a better idea, right?
Even tho there's something about the holiday season that makes it feel better

Is everyone still interested?

She and I were brainstorming things we can do with limited funds (she thinks boys would be easier to make happy than the girls (who are 8 going on 45 and I know how girls can be more like 'ugh, how boring'
But we can do
*GAmes-and have prizes like the Oriental Trading Items.
*Maybe we can bake cakes/cupkcakes.
*We can do an 11-2pm type thing on a weekend, and I suggested pizza, and theres a local pizzeria there that would give us a discount.

As far as the funds, we can decide as a group whether we split the pizza and prizes or try to raise the money locally.

Any other ideas?
What does everyone think?

I would be interested in this!

I did something with my Brownies that maybe good for these girls. We made 'Friendship' books. They made sort of a scrapbook but each page they drew on a picture of a friend and then listed why they liked this friend!
We could maybe get a Poliroid camera and take a picture of them and have them make a ME book!

AWESOME, so lets start thinking of ideas on raising money. Even if we raise $10 each, we'll be ok !! So even if we ask a few friendly businesses, it's worth a shot!
What were you guys thinking as far as raising money?

Gosh, why am I feeling guilty that we're not choosing a childrens hospital where the children are terminally ill
They might be very strict on rules and requirements. Im going to call one to get it off my chest.

Not sure how to approach the raising funds issue...any suggestions? If not, I have no problem contributing $10 of my own. To me, it is so worth it if we are making the children happy

call them anna and ask if they can make up an OFFICIAL kind of spread sheet for us where people can write their name and what they want to contribute, you know kinda look like a girl scout order form! maybe they can do it on letterhead???

I think I like this idea more than bringing little things...but I'll go with the flow if I'm in the minority.

Looks like we have around 15 girls so far wanting to participate. If we each put in $10 we'll definitely have enough to get a 'big ticket' gift for the kids ...I'm all for this idea too. But, I'm totally flexible to do whatever. I'm happy just to be a part of this

Tammy, what do you mean by that? A spreadsheet on their letterhead, where we can write what we each want to contribute?

Jennbaby, thats a good idea, to get something 'for the cottage' as a whole. Because alot of these kids come and go (I guess as their parents/families are in better conditions,they go back home. As far as a TV I can find out if they need one, and how much it would cost. But I definately agree about something that will last.
I also spoke to her about books, boardgames, and she thought those were great ideas too. (maybe as little extras).

SO what about activities?
Lets brainstorm on that:

-Arts n crafts-what types of crafts? If its around late winter, we can do some type of spring craft.. ideas??
-Games?

Does anyone have a preference of gender or age? I suggested we even do 2 cottages, but she disagreed with mixing 2 genders, especially at the preteen ages...
I tend to think younger kids appreciate things more (under age 10)..

What age groups can we help. I prefer the younger children if possible.

Maybe we can bring board games we have that we don't play, as well as chip in for a big gift?

Can you call & see what they are in need of?

things we can donate from our homes that we dont use too much anymore, as well as getting them something for the cottage...

i'll update everyone on what they can use.

anna-- you know when you order girl scout cookies? Or when you sponsor someone in a race for cancer , etc.....

they have a spreadsheet w/ like four boxes for the peoples name, address and amount they are pledging/donating

or in the case of cookies LOL
how many boxes and their total

now do you know what I mean
they can create something w/ their LETTERHEAD and make copies for us to get donations at work, etc...
