My Uncle/Godfather is SO poor... I KNOW we're not getting a gift from him. Does that mean I shouldn't invite him? NO WAY!! I can't IMAGINE my wedding without him! Same with a few relatives on my FH's side! They're absolutely all invited!

What are some of the responses on theknot? (I never go on there... guess posts like that are why!)

I DO have to say the only time you get PI$$ED is when you're Rich Uncle Murdoch and could buy the world gives 30 bucks... THAT'S when I'd get PISSED!

Exactly I ahve both... I have a few Uncle Murdochs type realtives

I also have an uncle who isnt on the right path in his life. he's the uncle we have to call a few days before to remind about the wedding and make sure he comes. He wont give a gift but I love him to death and wouldnt want him to miss my wedding for the world - even if it means I have to babysit him to make sure he comes.

ugh, if I were to attend her wedding I would eat everything in site and dance my heart out and when it comes time to the envelope I would give her an empty one minus a card!

What a B%$@*!!!!!! Now it makes sense why people would give her hardly anything

Que Dios te bendiga
means 'May God bless you'

many times my spanish folks believe this is enough rather than a gift. LMAO

Um. Your wedding is about a MARRIAGE, not the 'money you make'! And your goal in having the wedding was to save enough money for a condo?

Um. EW EW

Seriously! What is WRONG with people! We had a friend of DH's come to our wedding and he didn't give a gift, but he flew up from VA, stayed in the hotel and came to the wedding. I still sent him a thank you because his actually PRESENCE at the wedding was more important than a PRESENT!

Ug.

VERY well said

Re: WOW! snob alert on the knot- LOL

I guess it's best not to expect any gifts when planning a wedding.

That way, anything given to the couple is a gift.

you know, i should have deduced the Dios from latin...

haha.

i'd rather get a $40 gift than cash honestly...but i'll graciously accept a hug and smile ON my wedding day as well.

Re: WOW! snob alert on the knot- LOL

the way the lady worded what she said is wrong.

however, there are several people that came to our wedding and haven't given a gift...while we don't expect lavish gifts from everyone, it would be nice to get an acknowledgement of some sort...whether that be a $20 gift card or just a card...but I think the worst is when people don't give anything. I mean, come on - it is a wedding...some sort of gift (whatever it is) IS expected.

that is Bridal advice 101! NEVER expect to 'make money back!' You are throwing a wedding because you want to, not to make $$$$$!!!!!

Re: WOW! snob alert on the knot- LOL

I didn't know the new trend in weddings was to spend tens of thousands to make $$ to buy a condo!!!!

And if anyone thinks that a wedding is a money-making proposition, let me warn you now.......IT ISN'T!!!!!!

I have to agree with you, maybe her choice of words are poor, but I definitely think its rude to attend a wedding and not give a gift.

Re: WOW! snob alert on the knot- LOL

Of course this girl sounds like a biatch!!! I had an aunt come to my wedding that couldn't afford a gift. I would NEVER not invite her. I wanted all the people I care about there on my wedding day. I appreciated everything I got that day.

On the flip side, if I were invited to a wedding (non-family), and I couldn't give a substantial gift, I probably would not go. I would be embarrassed to show up without a gift or a 'small' gift. I know it's not my job to pay for my plate, but I still feel obligated.

I had a friend who was brought to a wedding as a date, and she found out later that her date didn't give a gift. She was MORTIFIED! It wasn't her fault, but she was still embarrassed.
