Agreed. If someone rated my hall a low number I wouldn't care. I personally love it. Everyone has different opinions..

Re: Rate the Reception Hall!
Riviera - nice but the room was too small for my # of guestsSwan Club - the room I liked had too high of a minimum
Manor East - great food, great prices but not us
Stewart Manor CC - not enough grounds for us
Chateau Briand, Fox Hollow and Crest Hollow - too many memories made at those places with ex boyfriends
Woodbury CC - PERFECT in every way for us!

Re: Rate the Reception Hall!
Here are some of the places I have been to over the past few months:Carltun on the Park
Impeccible. Loved it! Loved the After Party they had there in the cigar room. Loved the ballroom. If my cuz wasnt the one who got married there- would have booked it
Garden City Hotel
Very Elegant and Classy.
Carlyle on the Green
My Choice- This is where I am getting married so of course I rate it highly. I loved it and after going to a wedding there I am so happy we decided to spend the extra money and book it. Everything was wonderful.
Vanderbelt Mansion
So beautiful and classy. Small but intimate
Westbury Manor
Loved the outdoor cocktail hour area. So pretty. Service was wonderful.
North Ritz Club
Nice wedding. Food was good.
Larkfield Manor
Food was good. Wasnt way too impressed with the service.

if you cant handle someone having an opinion on a reception hall, then you shouldnt read these posts to begin with. its an open forum to express how you felt about a place. not everyone has the same opinion as you. something i might've hated, you might love. take this at your discretion

I dont want this to be taken harshly but.. I think The brides can HANDLE opinions, and dont need someone to tell us that if we cant... NOT to read these boards. Its not for you to say that. We read these boards for help and support!! If we all have our own opinions and if the ratings do NOT matter then why even post at all? I just think we should all support these halls rather then give them a number rating that has no meaning to us personally, we are all different and thats beautiful!! No reason to be negative so lets try and be positive here...if thats okay?

Please note - each person has different taste, so what I may like (lots of wood, no crystal), someone else may dislike. I am reviewing just the decor because I have not been to any weddings in NY except my own
Grand Prospect Hall (Brooklyn) – Not our style – was right across the street from the highway and place seemed a bit run down and dark and musty
Douglaston Manor (Queens) – Also seemed a bit run down and too 80’s for me with all the mirrors
Terrace on the Park (Queens) – loved the rooms but didn’t like the 80s feel lobby with all the mirrors and when we visited in 2005 there were no pretty grounds
Fountainhead (Westchester) – Loved the ceremony area and the pinpoint lighting in the reception rooms but the decor was not my style
Crest Hollow Country Club (Nassau) – beautiful but too much brass for my taste
Carlton on the Sound (Nassau) – did not like that the cocktail area was downstairs and that when you looked out the window in the reception room, you saw the parking lot
Westbury Manor (Nassau) – perfect for me – loved the wood and homey feel. The drawback is that WM holds two weddings at a time, but the price, amount of food, gorgeous grounds, and beauty of the rooms sold it for me
Just curious when you last saw Douglaston Manor... They just underwent a huge renovation, and I was there on Wed and Sat this week... I didn't see any mirrors that weren't in a bathroom or the bridal suite... I think you are talking about what it looked like -re-renovation...

BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER. WHAT I LIKE ABOUT A PLACE ANOTHER BRIDE MY HATE. WHAT I DON'T LIKE ANOTHER BRIDE WILL LOVE. I THINK I'LL KEEP MY OPINION TO MYSELF ON THIS ONE. ALL OF US GIRLS WILL HAVE WEDDINGS TO BE REMEMBERED AT THE HALL OF OUR CHOICE. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!

Re: Rate the Reception Hall!
I give Atlantica a 10. My wedding isn't until June but I have high hopes. The service is unbeatable. I went to a wedding there & that's what sold me. I never once had to go to the bar for a drink, the waiter was ALWAYS there with a fresh one. During cocktail hour, every waiter has a person trailing them to take away your trash, whether it be a toothpick or shrimp tail. I swear, if you drop a fork, I bet they'd catch it before it hit the floor.
The view is gorgeous; the place is very understated. You are paying for the location. Of the places we looked at, it was the most expensive, but I loved it. Not pretentious at all.
If you are looking for a super fancy mansion type wedding with sprawling gardens, etc... this is not the place for you. I loved those places too, but the feel at Atlantica is mcuh different. Classy but laid back.

Re: Rate the Reception Hall!
you may think its rude and harsh, but its not. i think it helps alot. if i see someone's experience was bad and they explain why, then we can talk to our banquet managers and bring the subject up and make sure that doesnt happen at your wedding. its fixing mistakes for the venues. if something bad happened at my venue, i'd definetely wanna know about it and make sure it doesnt happen at mine. maybe im the only one that thinks this way. but regardless, what i feel isnt wrong and what you feel isnt wrong either

Yes it was pre-renovation. I visited halls in Feb and Mar 2005 so both Douglaston Manor and Terrace on the Park have been renovated since then.

Hey Kara!! Yes this was definitely pre-renovation! If you're curious what it used to look like, just take a peek in the BM's officewhen you're there on Friday. When I sat down with Thomas he told me they didn't renovate the office yet, so you can see all of the old carpeting and the strip mirrors.....I told Thomas if that's what it still looked like I would've walked out as soon as I walked in!!!
