Re: Windbrook homes in Central Islip?

i would steer very far away from CI. the neighborhood is not great and the long island ducks stadium is there, so traffic can be a HUGE problem - plus people lingering, etc.

Re: UPDATED!! Windbrook homes in Central Islip?

I'm surprised to hear that a cop would tell you not to live in an area that he was patroling. You would think that he would try to convince you that it is safe and that he is doing his job.

We are in the process of buying a condo in Windbrook and every time I have been there it has been nice and quiet. I have family friends who own a condo in there and they let their daughter and SIL live there for a year until they bought a house. They thought it was great and they are pretty snobby kids (went to private school, have been known to be prejudice at times) It may be CI mailing address but it is two blocks away from Hauppauge. Instead of walking south, walk north.

I hope the cop you met just had an attitude problem and didn't really believe it was horrible.

Re: UPDATED!! Windbrook homes in Central Islip?

CI is where they found the 3 jerk-off's that shot that innocent handicapped man from Radio Shack in Oakdale...the ones that planned to hit Radio Shacks along LI while they were in Attica.....

the cop was probably responding to a call or looking for someone, not patrolling......

Ok just because they found them there does not mean anything, it does not even mean they live there or are from there. I come from a family of cops (both nassau and suffolk) 'higher Price' neighborhoods have just as much crime and I have heard some worse stories of things that have happened in Garden City and Manhasset then growing up my entire life in CI.

I grew up in CI my entire life near the hauppauge border. I loved it, I walked around my streets, rode my bike around town, stayed out past dusk. I can't talk about everywhere because like any town some parts are worse then others but there are def. some good parts. I have to admit though that my parents thought the school district was lacking so I always went to private school.

Re: UPDATED!! Windbrook homes in Central Islip?

I lived in Windbrooke homes( we rented a condo) for almost 3 years and we loved it. The community itself is great. There was never once a problem in those 3 years, and they do have private security that patrols every night( in fact he would come up to us if we were sitting in the car late at night....I thought annoying at the time, but now I realize it was good) It is a very friendly family oriented community. It also is just 3 blocks from Hauppauge so your not in the heart of CI....The problems in Central Islip, or problem areas tend to be over by Carlton Ave. The high school is also connected to the back of the property( gated) so you tend to get even MORE security because of that, and we never had trouble with high school kids or anything. The area where 7-11 and stuff is behind the complex looks run down but to be honest , we never had a problem. If I were going to raise kids there, I might not buy, I dont think the school district is that good. But as far as re-sale, we moved because the owner was selling it and he got 20 offers....
I have said before when someone asked, I would if I had the money and there was an opening move back there in a flash....

Re: UPDATED!! Windbrook homes in Central Islip?

My husband is a police officer in that area and I wouldnt recommend to anyone buying a house in CI.

I am not sure where the place is you are looking, but if it is Hauppauge, CI borderline, then it shouldnt be bad

Re: UPDATED!! Windbrook homes in Central Islip?

I am now in contract on my Windbrooke condo and I find the condo complex and immediate bordering areas to be great. Like every town, it has its good and bad and you just need to learn the places to avoid. I say go for it. And if you do move in, FM me and let me know and we can hang out and BBQ this summer

Re: UPDATED!! Windbrook homes in Central Islip?

the only reason id stay away from that town is newsday.com listed it as 39.8% poverty rate, also the schools are listed at 25% passing 8th grade english, and 34% passing 8th grade math, 28% graduating with regents dipomas......

Re: UPDATED!! Windbrook homes in Central Islip?

I agree the school district needs a TON of work, but not everyone can afford the perfect school district, I think Wondbrooke is suited more for couples and then young children, I wouldnt want my high school age chilcren in that school district but again as far as condo's go, I still love that place, love the insides of the condo's and the outside and the devlopment...

Re: UPDATED!! Windbrook homes in Central Islip?

I think people sometimes get too wrapped up in statistics. I think a child's progress has a lot to do with their environment outside of school .. especially their environment at home. Maybe by the numbers, certain school districts don't appear to be that good, but just because you send a child to a school district that does produce good numbers doesn't mean a child will turn out better. But I can understand the desire to want to offer what appears to be the best.

Re: UPDATED!! Windbrook homes in Central Islip?

Kel, I agree with you 100%.

I went to CI schools years ago before they had this negative label. The schools were miles ahead of what I was getting in the nyc.
