Anyone who takes Yaz... do you get MAJOR headaches/migraines?

I had my FIFTH consecutive day with a migraine yesterday... MASSIVE. My fiance had to tuck me in and bring me up a Vicodin because my head was POUNDING! (Advil just wasn't gonna cut it). My head has felt like it was in a VICE... just on the right side... for 5 days now. AND I'm ALREADY on daily migraine medication! EXCRUTIATING!

The only change I made in this past month is switching my pill from Yasmine to Yaz... I like the other benefits of Yaz better, so I'm hoping the headaches aren't linked to Yaz. I have a call into my gyno to ask, but I'm wondering if anyone else noticed a link to headaches with Yaz?

I did...I switched.
The only BCP that doesn't give me migraines/mood swings is something with a 24/7 steady hormone flow. [the patch, NuvaRing, etc.]

I just actually called the pharmacist and she said it can be a side effect if you switch from another pill, but it should go away after a few months of taking it.

Oh My GOD, they're MASSIVE headaches for me, but I guess maybe I only get them because I'm prone to migraines to begin with?

Hopefully they stop SOON!

I have the same migrate problem and the only BC that has worked for me has been Yasmine Lo...I love it! Tried YAZ for a short period of time but it made me really sick...went back to Yasmine and it's been great!

i got really sick on yaz migraines every day.... i tried to stick it out but i had to switch back to m old bcp...

I have been on Yaz for about 6 months, I have been lucky with this one that it hasnt made me sick. I am very sensitive to headaches, and migranes, nuva ring made me super moody, I have been on so many pills, ugh! I hope you find one that works for you! Good luck!

Oh man, I'm so sorry you're going through that. I'm glad I haven't switched, I kind of considered it. I'm on Yasmin and it is amazing, so I guess I have no reason to switch anyway. Life is sooo difficult with migraines!

I would definitely recommend Yasmin though! I was on orthotricyclen at first and it made me an emotional wreck all the time- it was terrible! Not to mention my skin was in its worst shape- go figure as that pill is advertised for those who want to clear up their skin. Yasmin completely improved the situation- lighter/shorter periods, practically no cramps and much clearer skin!

I was on Yasmin, but had NO sex drive. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Poor FH. (and poor ME! lol). This one is better, but now I have headaches! So, now I have a better sex drive, but I find myself saying, 'Not tonight, I have a headache!'.

You should call your obgyn and seriously consider switching...I had a very bad reaction once to a certain brand - the migraine is your body's warning to you...listen to it

I stopped taking BCP altogether because they gave me MAJOR migraines. I actually passed out while I was driving home from work one day. I would recommend you contact your OBGYN. You might want to switch.

I've been on 3 different brands of BC pills now, and with each one there is an adjustment period of a few months where you have annoying symptoms - cramps, mood swings, headaches. But if you're getting headaches for 5 days, and they're so bad you need VICODIN for them... switch now. It's making you too sick. It's not worth waiting 3 months to see if you'll feel better then.

It sounds like your migrains are definitely linked to your new BCPs. I'd stop taking them. I get bad migrains too, but it has nothing to do with my BCPs. All I know is that I can barely stand a regular old headache for 1 hrs let alone a migrain that lasts all day. I give you credit for toughing it out for 5 days! Feel better!!

Also, take your Yasmin RELIGIOUSLY at the same time every day. I never missed a pill, EVER, and I am 5 months pregnant. My life & wedding plans have been turned upside down.

Wow... was that because you were off by a few hours or something? That's SO weird! I actually am PARANOID with birth control, so I use vaginal spermicide as backup, which my FH thinks is a pain, for whatever reason. But I like it as extra lubrication, too. (not to get TOO detailed here! lol). But I feel more confident that I'm on the pill AND using vaginal spermicide... not ready to have kids yet!

I'm sorry you were thrown off by your pregnancy, but you know everything happens for a reason... it's a BLESSING and it's with the man you love, so CONGRATULATIONS!


good tip on the water... I don't drink enough, so I bet that's a big part of it. I'm going to go get myself a glass of water now.

Yaz didn't agree with me either. Lots of breakthrough bleeding also.

ooh! I had that, too, but I thought it was because I threw up with the food poisoning I had that night 5 seconds after I took the pill and assumed my body didn't absorb the pill that night and it counted as a 'missed pill'. Interesting........

I guess we'll be using a backup just to be on the safe side as annoying as that may be. We are so not ready to have children right now.

I've been on Yasmin for...mmmm...almost 4 years now? And I've been fine- I wouldn't worry too much. Who knows what causes those freak pregnancies on the pill. But it sure is disturbing to hear!! I'm very paranoid when I take antibiotics...like now. I take my Yasmin at pretty much the same time every day....maybe on the weekends it's a little off...but I've been totally fine. I never had headaches...go figure. Everyone reacts differently to different pills. My poor friend can't use the pill AT ALL, it totally messes her up, poor thing.

Sarah, you kill me about the sex drive thing- 'not tonight honey, I have a headache!! ' I thought of going on Yaz for the same reason, but I don't think Yasmin really affected my sex drive that much, although I do see a slight difference in some respect. But I never refuse sex anyway, so no worries! HAHAHA TMI!!!
