Petite brides - Do you have to order your dress hollow to hem?

I'm having issues with the place that is ordering my dress. I had told them that I want the dress to be ordered hollow to hem. We had agreed on a price and now they are telling me I have to pay $150 more. I'm wondering if any of you ordered the dress regular size and if was a problem to alter it. I'm 5ft. The train is plain so I'm not worried loosing any details however I'm wondering if it's better to pay the price and order it hollow to hem. I'm really upset at them because I made it clear that I want it hollow to hem we negotiated a price and now they are changing things. Thanks...

Re: Petite brides - Do you have to order your dress hollow to hem?

I paid to get hollow to hem, but my dress has a lot of lace detail and I wanted the designer to deal with making it shorter, not some alterations person. If I had ordered a plain dress, I may not have bothered.

Re: Petite brides - Do you have to order your dress hollow to hem?

I'm 5' also and getting married at same place the day before you. lol

I ordered my dress custom length (maggie doesn't call it hollow to hem) 5 inches shorter than petite.
But my dress has scalloped edging all along the bottom. It cost me $20 per inch off petite so it will probably be about the same price as alterations.

I was definately pushing for custom length on every dress I was considering because I wanted the least amount of alterations... but then again every dress I looked at had some kind of detailing on the bottom that I didn't want screwed up.

If my dress were plain on the bottom, I wouldn't have been as concerned about it. Hope this helps.

Re: Petite brides - Do you have to order your dress hollow to hem?

did you get that in writing on the contract? They shouldnt be charging you more for that if you already agreed on a price. I am 4'11 and I ordered it regular and they are just going to hem it, although its mostly tulle so it shouldnt be a huge deal

Re: Petite brides - Do you have to order your dress hollow to hem?

My dress has alot of detail on the bottom so yes, i ordered hollow to hem (im 5'2) and i was charged an extra $100 for it .... i'd rather it be cut to my specifications by the company... really, it would have been impossible to hem my dress

if yours is plain, i think you should let the alts people handle it and not pay the $150.... they are experienced in handling that kind of work

Re: Petite brides - Do you have to order your dress hollow to hem?

i am 5ft tall

my reception dress was ordered custom to my measurements, its a melissa sweet....

my demetrios dress was not - if i would have known i would have never ordered a demetrios, i am having so many problems with the quality of my dress, i know that you can't expect the same type of quality when you aren't paying top dollar but still i am really disappointed with the condition of my dress, i thought demetrios had nice dresses and from what ive seen here, everyone who had a demetrios had a nice nice dress....but for me, it wasn't worth the money i saved, i should have gotten a EOM/POB or Melissa Sweet - my reception dress is a Melissa Sweet and the quality is a lot better....my demetrios dress has gathering so even though the dress wasn't done hollow to hem its easy to hem because they just add more picks ups instead of cutting the bottom....but if your dress has lots of details, beads or lace hollow to hem would probably be the best way to go

Re: Petite brides - Do you have to order your dress hollow to hem?

Unfortunately I didn't get it in writing. We negotiated the price over the phone and when I went to get the measurements for hollow to hem that's when they told me.

If I had alot of detail on the bottom of the dress I'd be more worried. For the woman that is concerned I think they may be able to do the alteration from the waist portion and pick the dress up so you don't loose the detail of the bottom of the dress. I would call the place and ask them.

my dress came in three different lenghts so they measured me H to H to make sure it wasn't too short or long.

Re: Petite brides - Do you have to order your dress hollow to hem?

Great, I'm glad that worked out for you and they'll be able to do the alterations from the waist! From looking at your dress I figured they might be able to do that.

I'm leaning towards ordering mine hollow to hem. I'm now wondering if I do, and the length is off will there be an additional charge?

Thank you so much for mentioning that. I am thinking if it came in wrong they might charge you to alter it. Maybe if you ordered it hollow to hem have them write in the contract that if it needs to be altered there will be no charge.

Re: Petite brides - Do you have to order your dress hollow to hem?

I'm glad it worked out.

I just called them and they said that if I order it hollow to hem and the length of the dress is off, there will be an additional charge for alterations. Crazy! Now I'm thinking of leaving the order as is which is a regular size and taking it somewhere else for alterations.

Re: Petite brides - Do you have to order your dress hollow to hem?

I am 5'2-5'3 and I didn't do this. I hope the ladies at Bridal Reflections can take care of this. I ordered my dress without knowing what hollow to hem was. I learned about it after the order was put in. I asked the girls' about it when my dress came in and they swore they will have no problem altering it. I hope they are right!
