have you been to a bridal shower and were asked to bring a bottle of wine?
I am helping my moh plan my shower which will be held at the seventh street cafe. The shower will be co-ed so we are not opening gifts. We have a home together and a HUGE wine rack--it holds like 100 bottles --we have like 5!!! Have you ever been to a shower and were asked to bring the couple a bottle of wine in addition to a gift??I was thinking this may be a great idea instead of the wishing well. what do you think?
how would you word this on the invitation??

Not sure I like the idea. It's a bit much in addition to bringing a gift, IMO.

I think it's a great idea! I would love to have someone do this for my bridal shower. I LOVE wine! They have wine in all budgets and you can get a pretty good bottle of wine for $5 (Barefoot) which would cost the same as a wishing well gift. I think as long as you make a little poem and present it nicely that it would be really nice!

I really like that idea. I think like another poster said, there are many different price points for wine and why not get something you will be able to use and savor like wine. Go for it if you like it!!

Re: have you been to a bridal shower and were asked to bring a bottle of wine?
my maid & matron of honor did something like this for my shower. it was great! i have all this wine and not in the least expensive - they ranged from $5-$25 depending on which one they brought. i didnt know about it until i got there, but my sis (maid of honor) asked me what my favorite wines were - i gave her a top ten list not knowing she sent this list to everyone invited to my shower. had i known, i would have made it a little easier for them to get. no one could find the obscure selections, 'cept for a few. and she also asked them to bring one for me and one for the shower ( to drink there) which i thought was a bit too much since there were well over 10 bottles half full after the shower.all in all, it was enjoyed by everyone.

my mom was asked to do this at a shower she went to bout a month ago... i think she brought like some cheap $5 wine... i think its crazy to ask for that AND a gift.... b/c im sure the wine she was hopin to get (something nice n expensive n rare) was not what she ended up receiving

I had friends that registered for wine. Some of the better wine shops will do it. People really liked that idea. i bought a few bottles (they had a nice range of like 10-120).http://www.pjwine.com/

I was asked to bring a bottle of wine to 2 showers. I think it's a great idea! I can't remember how it was worded on the invite. The bridal party bought the girls a wine cooler that held a large number of wine bottles. The wording said something about helping to fill it up wit your favorite wines. I think it's a good idea!

Re: have you been to a bridal shower and were asked to bring a bottle of wine?
i've never been asked to bring it to a bridal shower but if i was i'd assume that that WAS the gift and not bother to buy something off the registry.. it seems a bit hmm.. nervy? maybe not the best word.. to ask for that in addition to a gift.

I saw a girl post on here about how she did this at her shower and I thought it was a great idea. I don't think it is any more 'nervy' then asking people to bring a wishing well gift. They don't need to spend $$$ on the wine, in fact I often find I like the cheaper stuff better.

Re: have you been to a bridal shower and were asked to bring a bottle of wine?
i would word it - in leau of a wishing well we are doing a wishing wine rack. Bring a bottle of wine for the couple to start their life together with or something like that.honestly the wishing well i felt was the biggest waste of all half the stuff I had all ready and couldn't return and that annoyed me.

i have known quite a few brides to be who have done this or similar at their showers.
yes wording is key! a cute poem or short saying to sum up the point. IMO i don't think anyone would think that is tackier than bringing a roll of toilet paper or box of tampons! ((seen both of them many times in wishing wells))
other ideas on the same line include:
movie night (guests bring a movie to help start a movie collection)
stock the liquer cabinet (guests bring a bottle of their fav to help the newlyweds start a liquer cabinet)

Re: have you been to a bridal shower and were asked to bring a bottle of wine?
Wishing well gifts are gifts for the bride.Bring your own wine is like a gift for the person hosting the shower -- unless the bride has a wine cellar and wants it for her collection.
Otherwise, I don't like the idea -- it reminds me of a college party
