Here is the thing. I dont understand it either BUT oprah said this show was for every woman who has missed teh exit they take EVERY SINGLE DAY or every woman that pulls up to their house and cant remember how they got there
It really affected me. . . I am on autopilot to and from work. . . I would love to say I could never forget my kid but who really know? I bet she thought that too.
I wish I could say I am a better person and I have sympathy for her but I can't physically feel that way. . .but I try not to judge.
MANY times I am supposed to go somewhere after work like the supermarket and all of a sudden I am IN MY HOUSE before realizing it!
Or one day, I literally forgot to turn down my block and didnt realize it until about 5 blocks later. . .
I agree with you. I just cant judge her. A while ago, I crushed my friend into another car with my car door. I didnt realize she wasnt fully out of the car yet. And she was on the PASSENGER side. HOW DID I NOT SEE HER?? Tell you the truth I was overwhelmed. I had kids in my back seat yelling, I hadnt eaten cause I was rushing all day, blah blah blah. My friend was okay except for some bruises on her legs but I still cant get over how I hurt her like that.

see things like that i can understand. Theres been times im driving and then when i get somewhere i think 'wow i dont remember much of the drive' but i think it was actually bc i was just too focused on the road and zoned on that. I can understand forgetting things and trust me i understand doing stupid things, i sure have had my share of doing stupid things.
and she said she was overwhelmed. Now if the story was that she was running real late and had to get to work and she also had to drop the baby off at the sitter but was in such a rush she forgot. But what i got from the story was that it seemed like she was ahead of schedule. She was too early to drop the baby off so wasnt late for that, then obviously she wasnt late for work bc she had more than enough time to even stop and get donuts. If you have time to stop for donuts i dont see it as an overwhelming morning. Again, i would've understood if she even ran into the school and realized it after. But 8 hours to not remember is a bit weird. Plus im still confused why the babysitter didnt call to see if everything was ok. If nobody called to say they werent dropping the baby off that day, then wouldn't she call just to make sure everything is ok

im glad she remembered to pick up donuts but forgets about her babyand of course she remembered to take the donuts out of the car but not the baby. See now this story just got even more weird. Obviously it wasnt a situation where she just parked and RAN out of the car. She had donuts in the car which of course cant be forgotten, so after she parked she did have those few seconds where she had to reach to take something out of the car with her. Whether it was front seat or back seat, you are turning slightly, dont you see the carseat
and why didnt the babysitter call. And as a teacher, i am sure she also had other things to take with her
Before seeing this I just couldn't understand how this could happen. How could someone forget about their child for EIGHT hours but after watching it wasn't like this woman was a neglectful monster she was a working mom that made a very serious mistake.
The woman was a school assistant principal and it was her first day back to school for the year.
Her routine was different. usually her husband dropped the baby off but he had a appointment so she was doing it.
Her car was actually a suv or a minivan. So the baby was way in the back and asleep while she was in the front.
The doughnuts were loaded into the trunk. they actually have it on video of her unloading her van and having her hands loaded walking into work.
She said she went to the bakery to kill some time and when she got back in to drive the suv it was on her road to work. She said she was just programmed to go to work.
She even said she spoke about her kids with the new teachers. Oprah asked her and you diodn't think of her then in the car and she said she didn't she was telling people how great her two daughters are but never even thought of the baby still in the car.
It was a hard episode to watch they had the recordings of the 911 calls were people were saying the skin was peeling off and the baby was foaming at the mouth. They also showed the mom being questioned by the police and the poor woman was a wreck she was saying she wanted to die.

Re: Did anyone watch Oprah yesterday
Denise the baby was also I think like 6-8 months. I think so maybe she wasnt getting enough sleep. And then her routine was changed suddenly, doesnt normally take her baby to school. Its hard for me to comprehend too but I have done some really stupid ****. Although I dont think I could ever do this. When my niece is with me. She is next to me EVERY SECOND. She falls asleep in the car all the time. And I COULD NEVER EVER forget shes back there!

It happens. Its sad but true. Its very very hard for the whole family. My heart goes out to anyone who anciently too part in their child's death. Trust me, they beat themselves up more than anyone else could. Its easy to say 'yeah that'll never happen to me.' But then their comes the day when you and your DH have a major fight, or issues at work or with other member of the family. Your schedule changes, your not thinking clearly and human error takes its part. The best thing you can do is hope you are never in that such a state with your child, or that you can get a hold of yourself before your child gets hurt.

Re: Did anyone watch Oprah yesterday
i guess i would have to see the whole show to see her whole side to the story. Also the trunk thing didnt help me, if you are going into your trunk with a minivan or SUV then you are looking towards the back seat, infact with an SUV the back of the trunk is the back seat. But i guess she was in a hurry and didnt pay attention.Did they ask on the show why the babysitter didn't call?
Its a horrible thing that happened.

Oh wow, this is terrible. I will not even leave my dog in the car let alone a baby. This is so sad and I just can't even relate or fathom this. Although, she must be so miserable that I do feel sorry for her

Re: Did anyone watch Oprah yesterday
what a tragedy
. i watched most of the show. not to say i havent thought gosh, how could that happen!? but its definitely very easy for all us us to criticize and say all sort of things being on this side of it and thinking we could never make such a horrible mistake, kwim? and i hope none of us ever do!!!! that being said, it seems that the show wasnt to reopen an attack on this woman, but about understanding how many women get in this mode of 'go, go, go', taking on too much, being overworked and distracted, not taking care of themselves (sleep deprived, etc) and using her story to build awareness to prevent things like this from happening in the future....much more productive and hopefully it will really wake some ppl up and change this mode so many get into.

OMG!! Wow if this is true. This is what the woman wrote
HOW DECEITFUL THIS WOMAN IS!!!! I live in the same community as this lady and I watched in horror last year as this woman portrayed herself as a poor overworked, overscheduled woman that just accidentally 'forgot' her child in the car. I wish to inform all of you that this woman left her child in the car to go to Busken's Bakery to purchase 8 dozen doughnuts before she got to school in which she BACKED HER SUV up to the school and made 6 trips back and forth from her car to the school. All this time her 2 year old daughter is in the car seat. For the rest of the day (approximately 8 hours), she never once thinks about her daughter!!!!!!! FYI(This is all in the police report): This was not the FIRST TIME this lady left this child alone in the car!!!!!!!!!!!!! During that same week that Cecilia died, she left Cecilia in the car alone for 10 to 15 minutes while she took her 5 year old into preschool and watched a play. Also, in 2007, she left Cecilia in the car so much, that Brenda and her husband were warned by the preschool's director that that kind of behavior was unacceptable! SO YOU SEE, BRENDA SET UP A PATTERN OF LEAVING HER 2 YEAR OLD IN THE CAR SO MUCH that on that fatal day, poor helpless Cecilia died a horrific death! What's more, can you believe 'the most hated mom in America' did not even change her daughter's diaper in the morning before she put her in the carseat for the morning???
THIS LADY ALSO CALLED HER SCHOOL THE NEXT DAY AND WANTED TO KNOW WHEN SHE COULD RETURN TO WORK!!!!! HOW DISGUSTING!!
So you see, this was not an isolated event in which she left her child in the car!!! I feel no sympathy for this lady! She is only using her poor daughter's death to get noteriety when she in actuality was her child's killer!!! Check out all the facts, Oprah, before you put a child killer on your show!! YOU PUT THIS LADY ON YOUR SHOW AND YOU WON'T PUT SARA PALIN ON- the world is in worse shape than I realized!

Re: Did anyone watch Oprah yesterday
I KNOW!!!someone else posted something about how they knew the family & her older son (5 yrs old) was asked to draw a picture of the family & didnt include the little girl who died (his sister) & the teacher asked him where his sister was & he responded 'in the car sleeping'
again - not saying this is 100% factual - just passing along the info

OMGGGGG
If this story is true i lost every bit of sympathy i had for this woman! Why would people make up such horrid stories about her?! Nothing is ever as black and white as we think....if what was written above turns out to be true Oprah is going to feel like a real fool as she should!

they say it was in the police reports and it was reported in the media when this happened
wow at first i thought maybe i was being too judgemental but after reading that, I am even more upset. She had a habit of doing this, she would leave her kid in the car, not bc she forgot but knowingly did so. They talked about her going into meetings and seeing her other daughters plays and leaving her baby in the car. They talked about one time she was in a meeting and mentioned her daughter was in the car sleeping. So i am sorry but now i think she knew her daughter was in the car and left her in there the way she always did in the past. In the past though nothing happened so she had no problem admitting it. When she did die this is when she cries that she didnt know she was in the backseat, i think that is BS then. She was even told in the past by the day care director i think it was to STOP leaving her kid in the backseat and had to explain why you cant do that.
I know everybodies hearts just break hearing this and they dont want to be judgemental so i understand how ppl feel for her. But i blame her sorry and now i do even more. I think as women we all go through everyting in our heads over and over and over. Once i leave the house thats when i think of everything, did i forget anything, did i leave anything on.
Plus the police report says that she went back to her car SEVERAL TIMES to get stuff. How does she remember donuts, lesson plans in the trunk but forgot her kid. WHen you walk to your trunk you can see into the backseat, how do you not see the kid. How do you remember everything else but your kid. Also with the simple fact that she has done this many times on purpose, i doubt this was the one time she forgot the kid was there. Of course she wasnt going to say she knew

Haha if only she did...she won't because it will make her look bad though!! Love Oprah but she definitely makes mistakes sometimes
As far as not feeling sorry for her I agree with Denise above...I don't either...too many times she left her kid in the car and now it's too late...sorry but I call that gross neglect
