Re: How do you word TY notes to non-gift givers?

So I sent out all the non-gift TY cards and got the funniest response from one of my friends. He's a non-gifter but he says he's going to get us something - he just really likes to adhere to the 'I've got a year to give it' philosophy. He's a good friend and we joke about it all the time so I know he will.

Anyway, I told him that I sent him a TY and he was like 'Why? I haven't gotten you anything yet.' EXACTLY!!!! This is why I told DH we didn't need to send them - the 'free party' (thanks RVC! ) and the expensive favors were my 'thanks for being with us.'

I think you guys have it wrong. Take the high road. They came to witness your wedding and be with you. That's why you invited them, not for the gift!

Come on..think about it.

okay, that's true. But, does this also mean that they came to 'witness my wedding and be with me' regardless of whether or not I served them dinner, drinks, provided music, etc?

Do you really think that those same non-gifters would have attended my wedding if I held it in a bare gymnasium without any food, drinks, music, etc?

That's what I'm saying. So have your wedding in a gym, with cake and punch. We planned our wedding for our guests. We chose the menu to accommodate all, we picked a band that everyone would like...etc...I'm sure you did the same. All I'm saying is that you don't plan this big affair to guarantee people will give you gifts. Send a thank you and be nice!

that's what I don't get, though...

Thank them for what? Yes, they attended and 'shared' the dinner, drinks and music that I paid for. They should be thanking me. I seriously mean that. If they can't afford a gift, that's fine, I invited them because I wanted to see them on my wedding day- but they should at least say 'Hey Bride and Groom, thanks for dinner'

I didn't send any. But if I did, I would write
'thank your for sharing in our special day'
that's it, since you can't thank them for the gift they didn't give.

I only had one non-gift giver, my cousin, and he will not be getting a ty card from us. I've spent so much $$$ on his family with kids b-days, anniversaries and xmas and he couldn't even
give us a card. There's no way that I will waste .39 on a stamp for him.
