3/23/13 - Bridgeview Yacht Club, GT Modern Creations, Lighthouse, Cynthia Ross Affairs, Flowers By Brian, Stacey Doolan, Angela's Hair Design, Bridal Reflections, and MANY MANY MORE!!!!

Hi girls!!! So it’s been a while and I originally started writing this review mid-April when we got back from our honeymoon but never got around to finishing and posting it. So it’s a little late but hopefully still helpful to those of us yet to wed! I am happy to answer any questions. Enjoy!!!!

Let me start my review by saying our wedding was absolutely AMAZING! It was 10+ years in the making and I got to marry my best friend so we could have gotten married in a paper bag for all I care and it still would have been the best day of my life. Just like everyone says the day really does fly by. 15 months of planning and the day seemed like everything was over and done in only 20 minutes. Be sure to soak up every minute of the day and take time to really enjoy yourself and your new hubby. I had a very interesting wedding planning experience. Many of you have probably seen me post before that I planned the entire wedding from Virginia. My hubs and I both grew up on LI (and went to high school together) but we relocated in 2010 to Virginia for his job. We got engaged in VA but knew all things wedding would take place in NY because that’s where all our friends and family are. With the exception of our venue and of course my dress/BM dresses we booked all our vendors based off reviews on this website, recommendations of married friends, and phone/email conversations with vendors. We hardly got to meet anyone in person until the day of the wedding. It was stressful at times, but my husband and I are both pretty laid back and knew everything would work out day of and of course it did! Ok on to the reviews…..

LIW – A+++++
I cannot thank the girls and guys on this website enough for the help and support throughout this process. During the planning stages I spent TONS of time on here reading reviews and getting feedback from other brides. The atmosphere on here is so supportive and encouraging and each one of you really helped me in one way or another to have my dream day, so thank you!!!

Hotel Block/Wedding night hotel – Allegria Hotel Long Beach, A+
I had a great experience working with Lisa Kohan in the sales office at the Allegria. I knew when we booked Bridgeview that I wanted my hotel block here because we had visited the hotel when looking at venues (we loved it, but the ballroom only seats about 185 comfortably and our invite list was over 250 so it didn’t work for us). The hotel is beautiful and modern and the location can’t be beat. Lisa was really accommodating for us. When we originally booked the block and went over the plans for the day it included a reveal on the boardwalk followed by pictures on the boardwalk/beach before heading over to Bridgeview. Obviously hurricane Sandy changed everything and Lisa worked with us to rework our plans and allowed us to use one of their beautiful lounge spaces for our reveal (the pictures look amazing!). I was a little worried when I stopped by the hotel in February and their lobby was still a construction zone from hurricane damage but they promised that it would be complete before my day and they delivered on that promise. They treated us like royalty during our whole stay (I checked in the night before the wedding and got ready there with all my maids as well) and we even came back to champagne and strawberries from Lisa after the wedding. All of our early checks ins and other random requests were honored and as far as I know all our guests were extremely happy as well. Highly recommend!

Ceremony and Reception - Bridgeview Yacht Club, A+++++++++
Words cannot even begin to express how amazing Bridgeview is. We knew as soon as we stepped foot inside it was the place for us. We wanted one wedding at a time, at a location that was not a wedding-factory type catering hall. Food quality was incredibly important to us (we are cocktail hour snobs), and we wanted a cocktail hour space that was interesting and had enough room for all our guests to sit. Bridgeview fit everything to a T. Our banquet manager Samantha was amazing to work with. She is incredibly responsive and patient and always willing to go the extra mile for clients. Bridgeview had extensive storm damage from Sandy and they were closed for over 2 months before our wedding getting back on their feet. Of course I was worried about everything being in order for our wedding but I knew they would come thru and be back better than ever. The only thing that wasn’t available for our wedding were portions of the back dock and gazebo which were not yet rebuilt, but it was a small in the grand scheme of things. On the day of the wedding we were the only event that entire day so we were able to arrive as early as we wanted for pictures and getting ready which was awesome. From the moment we arrived the staff was incredibly attentive, we got RAVE reviews on the food, and everything was executed by Bridgeview to absolute perfection. Eric is a phenomenal Maitre’D, he runs a tight ship keeping his staff on task and executing your day to perfection. Hes also a blast to have around. Overall Bridgeview is first class in everything they do and any brides who book here are really in for a treat! Bridgeview was the best decision we made in wedding planning!!

PS – If you can, get the Coney Island station as a late night snack. It was a huuuuuge hit! Late-night pretzels, hot dogs, knishes, burgers and fries OMG! Also the vodka bar with lemon/limes as shot glasses and a custom ice luge (we did our monogram). Such a hit!

Day of Coordinator - Cynthia Ross Affairs, A++
Cindy is FABULOUS!!!! She was a savior my entire planning process but really shined on the big day. She arrived early at the hotel to keep everyone on schedule and of course deal with any issues that came up. Nothing catastrophic happened, but she did sew my husband’s tux button when it flew off after buttoning/unbuttoning too many times for getting ready pictures (LOL). She was also incredibly calm and level headed for us when literally 4 minutes before the ceremony was scheduled to begin (we were already lining up outside the room) we realized the rings were MIA and nobody had seen them since the hotel hours before! She calmly went up to the bridal suite and found them in my bag within minutes. Crisis averted! Cindy and her assistant were amazing to have around all day. She set up my DIYs exactly how I requested, recurled my hair, helped me use the restroom, reapply makeup and of course tip vendors and so so much more! Money well spent!!!!

Makeup - Stacy Doolan MUA, A++++
I cannot say enough amazing things about Stacy. Not only is she an amazingly talented makeup artist but she is sweet and totally adorable to boot. I got airbrush makeup and it lasted all day long thru pictures, the ceremony, cocktail hour, 5 hours of reception and the after party. It was the most beautiful I have ever felt in my life, Stacy did a stunning job! My sister and one of my bridesmaids are super insanely picky about their makeup and both loved her. That speaks volumes. We had a relatively large party that needed makeup (me, MOB, MOG, MOH and 4 bridesmaids) so Stacy brought a second artist (Dede of NY Artistry). Dede was just as talented and fun to be around. Highly recommend either of these girls!

Hair - Angela’s Hair Design, A+
Angela did a great job on myself and all my girls. She nailed my style at the trial and didn’t balk when morning of the wedding I asked for a few changes from what we discussed. She nailed the new day of hair as well. The curls stayed pretty good, they did fall out a little but I think part of that was the fact that I had SUPER long extensions in and they weighed themselves down after a while. Angela and her assistant Toni nailed all my girls unique looks as well and everyone was happy and absolutely beautiful!

Photography – Lighthouse, C+
The review for Lighthouse is really difficult for me to write. I know they are one of the more beloved vendors on here but I personally was disappointed in their services. Not sure if it was because we did not have Florio, but our photogs missed so many of the pictures we asked for. The pictures we did get are decent but still don’t make up for what is missing. They were not creative with the scenery, missed my husbands reaction in our first reveal, and claim that they have no pictures of me getting my makeup done even though myself, my mom, and my bridesmaids all specifically remember them taking shots of me in the makeup chair. After they gave us our proofs I called them out saying that pictures had to be missing. Once I pressed them they ended up releasing an additional 200 images to us that were all gorgeous. We never got an answer as to why they were not included in the original images that were sent to us. In addition, a large portion of our photos had a large mark or smudge on the images all in the same spot which I believe must have been a smudge or dirt on the lens. How could they not have noticed this prior to sending us the images? When we brought it to their attention they acted surprised by it and said they had not noticed anything wrong. How is that possible?? They edited all the images for us and re-sent us the data with the dirt removed but it struck me as so unprofessional that that was the product that we originally received. I’m not really sure where everything went wrong with them but they are the only vendor that I have any kind of regret about and it stinks that it was photography. We should have splurged for the photog that I originally wanted who is not as popular on here. Lesson learned, while peoples’ reviews are helpful and a great starting point, have a mind of your own to form your own opinion and don’t just book a vendor because they are popular on this site.

Videographer - GT Modern Creations, A++
Gabriel and his wife Cartiza are absolutely amazing. They are so talented at what they do and so easy to be around. They were 100% one of my favorite vendors from that day. They arrived early to capture all of our prep work at the hotel and they stayed all the way till almost the end of the reception (over 13 hours later) to capture everything. They work incredibly hard and their amazing product shows it. Here is a link to my trailer which I adore. I cannot wait to get the full video!!!

Florist - Flowers by Brian, A +++
I worked with Jospeh Campbell and he was wonderful. When you speak with him you can just see how passionate he is about his job and how he really wants to make every single client he works with happy. He really listened to what I was looking for and was eager to show me the flowers he was suggesting in person in their show room (instead of in pictures like another place I went to) even though it was just our first meeting. We had two different kinds of centerpieces and when he made the samples he nailed it with one of them but the other one needed slight tweeking. He was happy to make the changes that I asked for on the spot so that I could see the perfected centerpiece right then and there. On the day of the wedding he went absolutely above and beyond for us. Our chuppah arrangement was STUNNING and so much bigger and more luscious than we paid for. The bouquets were gorgeous and he was able to incorporate lace from my mothers dress as a bouquet wrap just like I asked. Our escort card table centerpiece was gorgeous, centerpieces were amazing and our aisle décor was to die. Everything they did for us was gorgeous across the board. FBB and more specifically Joseph are second to none!!! They are a little pricier than some of the other vendors you may find but they are worth every penny in my opinion.

Band - Gus St. Angelo & Arcadia, A+++++
Arcadia is absolutely phenomenal!!! They had the dance floor packed all night and played every single song on our extensive request list. Our first dance songs and parent dance songs were played to absolute perfection. Gus was a pleasure to work with. They read the crowd perfectly and played a perfect mix for us. I cannot recommend them enough. They also did our ceremony music (keyboard and saxophone only) and we picked somewhat nontraditional entrance and exit songs and each of the songs were played exactly how we requested. Definitely one of my favorite vendors.

Uplighting - Prestige Events, A-
I did not have a ton of interaction with this vendor but Glen the owner was pleasant and easy to get in touch with. We needed just uplighting since we were having a band and they did not provide it. We went with a soft purple and kept it simple by having the color stay the same for the entire night. Everything was set up and ready to go by the time we arrived at the venue for pictures that afternoon and his guys were ready to break everything down at 1:30am when the party ended. Everything was organized and professional. The only reason I did not give them an A+ was because in some photos the lighting looks more on the pink side than purple but I am not sure if that is just the cameras.

Cigar Roller - Little Cigar Factory, A
Co-owner Joanne handles all the bookings of private events. She was always prompt in returning phone calls and always telling us to come stop by one of the stores to try the cigars to see which ones we liked. Unfortunatly we never made it in for a tasting but she worked with us to select a pretty unanimously popular cigar over the phone. The day of the wedding our roller was prompt in arriving and setting up to coincide with our Viennese. He promptly go to work rolling and our guests all seemed to enjoy this portion of the event. I don’t smoke cigars but those that did said the quality was great. We also got a keepsake custom engraved cigar box with our package which I thought was a nice touch.

Cake – The Sweet Peace, A++++
Bridgeview brides are in for a treat in the cake department. Bridgeview uses The Sweet Peace for the cakes and you work directly with the bakery to design whatever you want. Alex (office manager) and Allison (owner/head baker) are both amazing. Super responsive, creative, and talented. Their cakes look amazing and believe it or not taste even better! They have tons of flavor combos to choose from each one better than the next. We went with vanilla and coffee cake with Granny’s cookie (their own invented filling) for one option as well as chocolate fudge cake with mocha filling for another. Sooooo good! Cannot wait to eat our cake top on our 1 year anniversary!

Card Box - Beneath the Bow, A++
The girls at Beneath the Bow are amazing! They are so creative and are full of all kinds of fun ideas for gifts, baskets, and baked goods. My mom and sister had used them for my shower favors (caramel apples and pumpkin spice cake pops) that were seriously the most delicious sweets I have ever had. I didn’t want to do baked goods as my favor at the wedding since they had already done that, but I did enlist them to make my card box. I was open to pretty much anything so I told them I wanted purple and bling and let them have pretty much free reign. The result was beautiful and easily accommodated all the cards from our 225 guests. They even designed it so that it made it impossible for anyone to take cards back out as an extra level of protection so nothing could go missing. Great job all around, and I will definitely be using them again as soon as I need something yummy!

Limosine/Hotel Shuttle – Camelot, A+++
The Camelot team really knows what they are doing. The cars were clean and on time, and the drivers were professional and accommodating. A TV show was shooting on the bridge that we needed to get over between the hotel and the venue so what should have been a 4 minute ride took at least 25 minutes each trip. The driver took everything in stride and stayed on longer than we had him booked to ensure all guests were shuttled to the venue no matter what. We were so thankful to have booked with such a professional company, they really care about their clients and making sure everything runs as smoothly as possible. We also used them for airport transport for the honeymoon and they were great for that as well!

Tuxedos – Men’s Wearhouse, B+
Our Men’s Wearhouse experience was fine. Nothing spectacular, nothing awful. It worked best for us because we were able to get everything set up and my hubby fitted at the location by us in DC and all the groomsmen could go do their thing at locations on LI and in the city. DH picked the Vera tuxes in black and they were nice and fitted and photographed nicely. No issues with sizing, pickup, or messed up orders. FH used the Carle Place location for pickup, other locations used were Oceanside and 3rd Ave in NYC and all were fine.

Dress, BM Dresses, MOB Dress - Bridal Reflections, A+ (Bridal Salon) B (Bridesmaids)
I ordered my dress, bridesmaid dresses and MOB dresses at BR Massapequa. I worked with Mary Lou for my dress and she was great. She did not try to size me up to make money on alterations and did not pressure me to do anything else otherwise annoying I had found with some other places. I got my alterations done at the Carle Place location and had a great experience there as well. The sample I had tried on at Massapequa was in my exact size so I knew the dress was going to fit well but I could not have imagined I would not need a single alteration (not even a hem)! What a huge savings! All I needed was a bustle and for her to sew my belt into the corset. Easy-peasy and was done the week of the wedding since they knew I was from out of state. I only wish my bridesmaids/mom had as good an experience as I did. The bridesmaid consultants all scared my girls into sizing up and then they needed an insane amount of alterations. I felt so bad for them and was very upset with the Bridesmaid department. I would just tell your girls to be firm and confident and don't let them try and make you over order, especially if the sample you are trying on is close to your size and you can judge pretty accurately yourself what you need.
My experience is featured on their website in the real brides section, here is the link if you are interested in checking it out:

Shoes – Sandy’s Massaqequa, A
Originally I did not want dyable shoes, but I could not find purple shoes that matched perfectly with my MOH’s dress. After searching high and low both in stores and online (and buying/returning quite a few pairs), I gave up and decided to go the dyable route. Sandy’s had a decent selection and with just a small swatch of fabric from me absolutely nailed the color. One thing I will say is they warned me that if the shoes get wet the color could run (and stain your skin/dress). Thankfully we had a gorgous day so I didn’t have to deal with that but what are brides supposed to do if it rains? Geez!

Headpiece – Barron’s, A+
My hair comb from Barron’s was beautiful. It photographed perfectly and was exactly what I was looking for. The staff was patient and I tried on TONS of options before making my choice. I never felt pressured and the gentleman made some nice suggestions for me. My veil was my something borrowed from my BFF who bought it from Barrons in 2009 for her wedding.

Vistaprint.com – A+
We ordered business cards with our Jordan almonds poem on them as well as the labels for our favors (see below). We custom designed both and were very pleased with the results and the quality from Vista Print. We also ended up getting our Thank Yous thru them after deciding not to give our photog any further business and they came out great as well and shipped very quickly.

Favors – DIY, A+++++
We designed our own hot sauce bottles as favors. I loved this DIY because it was the only one my husband thought of and did with me. It was so fun to do together and I loved that our favor really represented us as a couple. We used Vista Print for the final labels and they were great.

Travel Agent – Liberty Travel Garden City, C+
Our agent Nicole was nice enough but didn’t do anything great. Our request was basic so she didn’t have to do much work. We already knew where we wanted to go when we got in touch with her. She messed up our reservation somehow and Sandals did not know when we arrived that we were on our honeymoon so our Champagne arrival was not set up. They rectified it right away on their end, but it was anticlimactic to arrive back to our room hours later to our welcome champagne greeting when we had already been at the resort for the whole day. Not Sandals fault though, this was all on our travel agent. In all honesty going thru the travel agent didn’t save us any money and didn’t get us anything we couldn’t have gotten on our own. They are unnecessary for booking a Sandals type vacation but I didn’t know that since I had never done it before.

Honeymoon – Sandals Grande St. Lucia, B+
DH and I are well traveled but have never done all-inclusive before. We usually don’t like to feel “trapped” on a resort and love to go check out local culture. We decided to try a Sandals mostly for simplicity purposes. With all the wedding planning going on I was over planning things and couldn’t deal with complicated logistics, so Sandals it was! In all honesty the resort was not really our style. For what we paid I thought the suite should have been a lot nicer. The food was good for an all inclusive and there were plenty of options for restaurants and bars on the grounds. We also checked out La Toc for golf and dinner one day. It was OK but not as nice as the Grande. Overall we had a great trip. We hiked the Pitons, took mud baths at the drive in volcano, did a beach ATV tour, picnicked at Pigeon Island and so much more. We would definitely go back to St. Lucia again. The Island is beautiful and the people are so friendly. We always felt very safe there and it was a great mix of beachy relaxation and tons of active hikes and things to do. I don’t think we will be staying at another Sandals again, the scene just isn’t for us.

Gown Preservation – www.mygownpreservation.com, A+
I wanted to add this as part of my review because I was so confused as to what I should do with my dress after the honeymoon. DH wanted me the sell it but for sentimental reasons I couldn’t part with it. I decided to preserve but didn’t want to spend a fortune because in all likelihood it will never get used for anything again. Our dry cleaner quoted me $500 and Bridal Reflections said I could get it cleaned thru them for $350. I found reviews online for a place called The Wedding Gown Presevation Company that many dry cleaners contract their gown cleaning out to. I decided to give it a try and by working directly with them and cutting out the middle man the cost was $150. Results were amazing! They got out all my dirt/stains and preserved in the appropriate acid free accoutrement. The entire process was about 3 weeks (even though they estimated 8-10 weeks) and I could track the dress online at all steps. Highly recommend as a budget friendly option that gets the job done.

Melissa, I felt the same way about our photographer not getting enough shots. He took plenty of pictures and they were beautiful but they were just in the ballroom and the bridal suite. I felt that Bridgeview had so many beautiful places for pictures and I was so jealous of your pics! I was shocked to read you didn't like the photographer, your pics looked amazing!

I guess maybe I am being a little hard on them but the way people raved I just had such high hopes. The pictures we do have are beautiful but only after I asked them to go back and retouch the wierd smudge on them. And honestly why bother arriving early at the hotel for bride prep when you are going to turn around and tell me you didnt get any makeup pictures? I expected more.

It's funny though bc when I look at your pics I am mad I didnt get any on the lounge chair in the bridal suite and I'm jealous of some other ones too so I guess the grass really is always greener.... LOL

Congrats! Gorgeous wedding. I'm disappointed to hear that about the photography, I'm such a fan of their work. But the pics you do have are amazing!

Nice review! Your pictures are beautiful!
I loved Bridgeview unfortunately they did not have my date available.
I also worked with GT & Cartiza they are great. I too, can't wait for our full video.

Congrats!!!Great review!!I can totally sympathize with regards to your photography experience. I felt like I didn't receive the same caliber of what the person was known for and they definitely missed some shots :( I did get some amazing pics but cant help stress over the ones that were missed. Thx for the heads up on the preservation website!!
