Tom Cruise's cronies seem to have put a lot of effort into skewing a Parade magazine poll in his favor. Parade.com recently asked online readers whether they thought Cruise was responsible for his disastrous public relations year or if it was the media's fault. A shocking 84 percent of respondents blamed the press. But Parade publicist Alexis Collado tells us: 'We at Parade found this a little bit fishy, so we did some investigating. We found out more than 14,000 (of the 18,000-plus votes) that came in were cast from only 10 computers! One computer was responsible for nearly 8,400 votes alone, all blaming the media for Tom's troubles. We also discovered that at least two other machines were the sources of inordinate numbers of votes. It seems these folks (whoever they may be) resorted to extraordinary measures to try to portray Tom in a positive light for the Parade.com survey. There is even a chance they wrote a special 'bot' program for the sole purpose of skewing the results, rather than casting the votes by hand on a computer.' Cruise spokesman Paul Bloch told us, 'I know nothing about the poll, so we have nothing to comment on.'

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise 'joyously welcomed the arrival of a baby girl, Suri, today,' Cruise's rep said in a statement after PEOPLE first broke the news Tuesday afternoon.

'The child weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and was 20 inches in length. Both mother and daughter are doing well.' Suri was born in an L.A.-area hospital.

The name Suri has its origins in Hebrew meaning 'princess,' or in Persian meaning 'red rose,' the rep added.

Holmes, Cruise and baby Suri are back home and doing well.

Last October, barely six months into their romance, an ecstatic Cruise and Holmes revealed that they were expectant parents.

Cruise, 43, and Holmes, 27, had made no secret of their desire to start a family together: When asked by PEOPLE last June if they were planning to have children, Holmes smiled and said simply, 'Yes.'

Friends of the Toledo, Ohio-bred Holmes called her perfectly suited to her upcoming role. 'She almost seems born for motherhood,' said Oliver Hudson, actress Kate Hudson's brother and an old pal who costarred with Holmes in Dawson's Creek. 'She's a nurturer. She's got mother qualities a lot of girls her age don't have.'

Cruise, meanwhile, is 'a great dad already,' according to his pal, actress Leah Remini. He has two children from his marriage to Nicole Kidman: Isabella, 13, and Connor, 11, whom Cruise and Kidman adopted as infants. Remini told PEOPLE that both kids are 'so cool…You can sit and talk to them about life.'

Brooke Shields Has a Girl

Brooke Shields gave birth to her second child, a daughter named Grier Hammond Henchy, on Tuesday, her rep tells PEOPLE exclusively.

The baby, who was born in Los Angeles, weighed in at 7 lbs., and measured 20 inches.

Shields, 40, and husband Chris Henchy, 42, who wed in 2001, also have a daughter, Rowan, who will be 3 next month.

Just last month, the couple celebrated the impending birth of their second child at a Moroccan-themed baby shower hosted by actor Steven Weber and his wife, Juliette Hohnen, at their L.A. home.

'Brooke was simply glowing all evening,' her friend, event planner Jo Gartin, who organized the fete, told PEOPLE.

The actress suffered from postpartum depression after the birth of her first child. She wrote a book on the subject, Down Came the Rain: My Journey Through Postpartum Depression, and has spoken out about her use of antidepressants.

Last year she was famously criticized by Tom Cruise, who as a Scientologist opposes psychiatry and prescription medication to battle depression.

This time Shields, who had trouble getting pregnant the first time, did not need the IVF treatments required to conceive Rowan. 'And nothing is going to shock me anymore. I am more prepared,' she told PEOPLE – though, she admits, not everyone is ready for the new addition.

'I said to Rowan, 'The baby is going to live in our house.' There was a long pause, then she looked at me and said, 'She is going to live in my house?' ' Shields said with a laugh. 'But she's been helping me decorate the room. It's been sweet. I'm glad she'll have a sibling.'

Nick: I Was Told My Marriage Was Over

Nick Lachey is now offering a more thorough peek inside his former marriage to Jessica Simpson than viewers were allowed to see on their Newlyweds reality series.

'Jessica and I began playing these parts even when we were by ourselves,' he says of their roles. 'It became a really blurred line. There was a question about what truly was our reality.'

Lachey, 32, makes the comments to Rolling Stone in a new interview, excerpts of which were released to USA Today.

Among Lachey's more startling revelations: 'I'll tell you how I knew my marriage was over: I was told.'

As for lingering doubts about his three-year-marriage, Lachey admits: 'I don't know if there were other men. But if she did cheat, it was the result of something bigger, not the reason we didn't work. ... Sometimes I think it would be easier if I had just walked in the house and found her in bed with a guy. That would be clear-cut. End of story. I wouldn't have to deal with the uncertainty of adultery.'

Lachey also lifts the veil on his feelings about ex-father-in-law (and Jessica's manager) Joe Simpson. 'I don't pretend to understand Joe,' he says. 'I don't know if he ever liked me. To this day I couldn't say. It was painful. Do I think Joe drove a rift between us? No. Was he an influence in our marriage? Absolutely.'

The marriage of Eddie and Nicole Murphy officially ended Monday, court papers reveal.

The comedian will pay child support to his ex-wife, with whom he has five children. Their youngest daughter, Bella Zahra, is 3; their eldest, Bria, 15.

Attorneys for Murphy had no comment. Nicole Murphy's lawyers could not be reached.

Nicole Murphy, a 37-year-old former model, filed for divorce Aug. 5 in Los Angeles after 12 years of marriage.

'The welfare of our children is our main concern and their best interest is our first priority,' Murphy, 44, said in a statement issued by his rep, Paul Bloch, after the filing.

The couple met in 1988 and wed in 1993.
