Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hahahaha, yellow cab would be funny, but since a lot of indians drive cabs, they would expect some to be there, but just not the bride coming out, But cheese bus would be funny!!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hey Guys,

Have you been to a indian wedding where the food is served family style? FH is totally about it. We have seen a few caterers about it and the estimates are pretty expensive. Are any of you having family style? Any tips would be helpful.

Thanks

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Thanks!! But I don't think there is a Hilton near my RH.. blah..

We did family style for our engagement and we will be doing it for our reception as well.. what are you looking for? Because the price will vary depending on your menu.. because of the bowls and stuff... hope this helps!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Are you guys paying for the rooms or just blocking the rooms? We only needed 1 room so we picked priceline.com to book and you pick the area and we got a great rate near Laguardia airport. Crowne Plaza for $72/nite. If you are paying you can use this option, hotels will give you their general rate when you call them directly.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

We are just blocking the rooms. I don't know the protocol for this stuff. I believe they pay for their own rooms.

I looked at the huntington hilton.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

i wasn't recommending Marriott Westchester. Marriott has many brands and locations. I would call the corporate office and see what they have available for the best rate.

I basically blocked 30 rooms at the rate of $99.00. Marriott made me a card with our names on it and all the information and they also gave me direction cards too. I put these in the invitation. My guest would then call and make a rsvp under our block to get the rate we arranged. Thats how this works. I am not paying for them. I just simple got them a deal.

Are you paying for everyone to stay at the hotel? Can i come too ?

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Well, all of my family will be staying at my house, not a hotel, my parents don't feel comfortable with them staying at a hotel, It's only my older cousin and his girlfriend who wanted a hotel, so that's why my parents paid for that. If it was more people, then they would not have.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

my parents feel the same way that they dont want their family staying at the hotel but unfortunately we can't have all these people stay with us and i would be too bitchie with all the those people around. I put the hotel info in EVERY invite. Hopefully no stays at my house! i know i feel bad about it but its my wedding day and i am nervous now. Can you imagine with everyone around?

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

sureeeeeee you can come.. please hook me up w/ the $99 deal

The wedding is about 2 hrs from where I live, and it would nearly impossible to wake everyone up and bathroom issues and stuff.. so it would be great if everyone had their own bathroom to shower and stuff and their own space to get ready rather than feel rushed..

I have no clue what the desi protocol is.. I guess my parents thinking is that for our family they should pay.. but now the list has included close family friends too..

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Sure, I would love it for my family to stay at a hotel also since I will be a nervous wreck, but most of them I have not seen in years and would like to be around them. Plus, the sangeet and mendhi nights are at my house anyway so it just pays for people to stay there those 3 nights rather than coming back and forth from a hotel.

I am getting sooo nervous, I just bought the chocolate for my favors (Hershey kisses and Valentine's day candy hearts) and we're gonna start putting the favors together this weekend. It's exactly 2 weeks away........coming down to the wire, don't feel like working at work right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Actually feel like eating the 5 pounds of chocolate I just bought, hehehehehe

WOW. Hawaii is supposed to be beautiful!! They have this amazing hindu temple there. My parents took pictures when they went.

To think we go through all this trouble just to become a wifey and go on a honeymoon. How come the guys don't need to do any of this???

haha

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

MrsV2be

Who do you recommend for family style? I've never seen it done so I want to go with someone experienced. My fear is the food will be cold

We are looking for maybe 4-5 dishes ( chicken, palak, malai kofta, daal, and a pasta dish) then the rice, salad, naan and raita. Most of the food will be during the cocktail hour.

Is that usual or is it generally more/less dishes.

Thanks

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Yeah I am sooo excited that I'm more excited than nervous you know!! I love Floral Terrace, sooo beautiful and I love it that it has an indoor garden room so you get the outdoor feeling in the winter, I can't wait.

Wow, Cabo is really beautiful also. You guys are gonna have an awesome time!!

We were gonna go out of the U.S but my passport was expired and I didn't wanna deal with that stuff in addition to wedding planning, so we figured Hawaii is good too. Expensive but beautiful!
